Are those...more common? And would that be enough to cause the...reaction between myself and the one we ran into in the hotel?

They're more common than full-blooded doppelgangers, yes, because it's more likely for them to, er, pair up with members of other races, given their tendency for integrating into other societies.

Many changelings go quite some time before discovering their nature, as they tend to look like whatever other species they're descended from at birth - with one very odd distinction. They're never born with a unique face. They're always a ... well, a mystical copy, you might say, of someone who already exists, or existed.

I did find some information about how changelings have either stumbled into their powers or had them 'awakened' although it's unclear how. There was some mention of contact with actual doppelgangers figuring into the latter.

[Oh wow, that gut punches in a way that stirs some kind of lost emotional sore spot that she didn't even know she had.]

[She had to wonder about her brother, the one that Alaric had mentions, one of the only people she vaguely remembered. Did Jeremy know about this? Did Ric himself know?

How much of everything she'd thought was a lie?

And she's holding it together a little too well now, distancing herself emotionally from all of that. (Will save 24)]

So...what do I do now?

[Because she has an idea forming in the very back of her mind, and it isn't one she's going to share. Because it's probably not a very good one, and right now she...doesn't care that it's stupid.]

Well... I imagine that depends on how much you're looking to embrace this side of yourself.

[She goes silent, because her first instinctual reaction is...not good.

But once she gets past that initial urge to recoil away, logic starts to seep through, her brows furrowing as she locks her feelings a way, and looks at the bigger picture.

Because this isn't something that will just go away, and she's been saying to herself this entire time that she didn't want to be a victim. That she might not be able to heal anyone like Myri does, or hit someone as hard as Buffy can, but she can do something. (Yep, cuz she just rolled a nat 20 will save WHAT THE HELL)]

I'm not going to run away. I think I know what I need to do. [A beat.] But first, we need to worry about tonight. [Break in first, horrible plans later.]

We'll have plenty of time to sort everything else out, yes. Maybe it's enough for now to know. I imagine it's... something to process.

[A bit of bitterness creeps back into her voice, but at least she doesn't look fucking depressed.]

Honestly, I'm glad I have something else to focus on, or I would probably be dwelling.

I can't claim to know anything about how you must be feeling... I don't even know anyone who's uncovered something about themselves so, er, personal, from their time on the other side.

[She shakes her head. She doesn't want to sound bitter.]

Okay, that might be a little bit of an exaggeration.

Stranger things have certainly happened. Some people don't even remember their own name.

It did bring you to us. For which I, at least, feel very grateful.

[Oh wow, hello emotions. At least she manages not to actually cry (will save 14), but she does almost tear up as she promptly stands up so that she can give Gar a hug. Because she needs one, okay.]
