[The Dragon's Hoard's wing is located in the farthest corner of the first floor of the castle from where the squire bedrooms are, rather than immediately by the laboratory. Following the equipment briefing, Lis'sa had asked James to come to her office there on Wednesday morning so that they might get a chance to finally sit and talk about his squiring period. Hopefully, he has no problems locating the place.]

That I can believe, new perspectives lead to new inventions and the like. [He pauses for a moment to look actually serious for once before going on.] Are any of your people, familiar with life prolonging devices?

Prolonging against what? Natural aging? Disease?

[spymaster]

Natural aging. Not much can be done for disease, unless you have found something.

[lissatrinall]

A lot of men seek for immortality. Through scientific and magical means.

[spymaster]

Immortality implies living forever through limited means of killing ones self. What I speak of, is a scientific approach to longevity, a longer life with an eventual end. [He says it like a teacher chiding a student for that. And he doesn't care who she is either 8|.] Have you heard of anything like that?

[lissatrinall]

I know the difference. But the reasons most people ask are the same: they seek control over their own mortality.

But in terms of purely medical advancements in the field, we have a couple specialists.

The better question is: why do you ask?

[spymaster]

Before I answer that, what is your take on such things? [How much trouble/grief/side eyeing/judgemental line facing is he going to have to endure more than the norm?]

[lissatrinall]

I'm not going to judge you. Most of medical science is about preserving life. There's nothing wrong with that.

[spymaster]

No there's not, is there? [He tilts his head some at her as he thinks, before nodding like he's finally decided on something.] I am ninety-five years old kept alive by a device strapped to my chest.

[lissatrinall]

... But human? [Just to clarify]

[spymaster]

In every other regard, yes.

[lissatrinall]

So it begs the question.

[spymaster]

What question would that be?

[lissatrinall]

Why?

[spymaster]

Scientific curiosity of the world around me to see how it would grow in the years to come of course. [And he says it so matter-of-factly to.]

[lissatrinall]

And you expect this curiosity to be satiated some day?

[spymaster]

Never, the world is constantly changing and I very much doubt that I will live forever. I merely wish to see if I can understand where the world is going before that time is all.

So you're waiting to be killed by external circumstances?

[spymaster]

Or until such time as the device fails and my age eventually catches up to me, physically of course. [Spoiler, it's how he dies 60 years later :/]

I suppose that answers my question.

Both. [And without letting him think on that too hard, she gets up.] Come on. I'll show you around the lab.
