The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

Keeping busy can help. Maybe Wynn has some cases you could help on?

I usually keep pretty busy on my own, but my stage show's been missing a little oomph lately. Maybe you're right.

[he nods, with a bit of a half-shrug.]

Doing something different can help too. It takes more focus than the same old, same old.

What about you? Is it back to the 'same old'?

[He shrugs.]

I haven't been on a mission lately so it's mostly been keeping in shape and killing time. I still have a lot to learn about the way this world works.

The best way to learn is to go out there and explore. Have you met a lot of Shadowkind?

[his head bobs a bit.]

Mostly within the Knights. I'm trying to get a handle on socializing here before I start socializing out there.

[Socializing in the real world requires cover stories and lies he's not used to telling. Covert? Not really his strong suit.]

I suppose you're lucky then, that Wynn sponsors these little company picnics of his every month.

[He chuckles.]

Yeah. It definitely gives me something I can't opt out of.

Maybe not to the fancy ceremonies, but no one holds a gun to anyone's head to come to the black tie.

[He shrugs.]

[and even as antisocial as he is, he doesn't want it to be said that he doesn't care about things like that. That these things don't matter.]

[He pauses as he considers that for a moment, because it's a pretty valid question.]

[He pauses for a moment before glancing back to her.]

Why did you decide to become a magician if you could do real magic?

My father, actually. I grew up with it, even worked as his stage assistant before he vanished. I didn't know until I was already knee-deep into the illusionist lifestyle that I even had the capacity for real magic.

Huh.

[he pauses before shaking his head.]

Me and magic ... we have a complicated relationship. It's not my favorite thing for a lot of reasons.

[not that he's condemning her for using it, he just has a lot of reasons not to trust it.]

But it sounds like you enjoy both aspects.

Kind of like what happened in the Triangle. There was a witch that was controlling me, but she was skilled enough where she made me think that they were my choices. I was her canon fodder.

It also kept me from seeing what a psychopath she was.

How did you break free of it?

She died.

[Not by him. He knows that much. The who's and the how's are fuzzy, but he knows for a fact that the witch who was controlling him is dead.]
