The trial of Rafael Giovanni looms on the horizon, as summer gives way to fall, the chill in the air creating a definite atmosphere of foreboding as the date grows closer. It's not merely Rafael's freedom on the line after all - but also Des', thanks to the deal he struck with Iscariot. While Francesca and Val'drin work to uncover the secret of the mysterious hourglass artifact, lawyer Jaka Teken'Duis uses his ... unique legal powers to work towards a "Temporary Insanity" case for Rafael. The Knights, unhappy about the potential ramifications of such a plea, continue to seek any evidence they can to show Rafael was actually innocent, and place conspiracy charges back on Chad Becksworth and his ilk for what transpired. Not everything they learn, however, is what they were hoping to find...

Others wage more personal battles, as the coming autumn signals the encroaching winter, and Luthir and Violet's time draws shorter to find a way to stop her nightmares, lest they kill her. Elena plays a dangerous game, working to uncover more of her nature by training her doppelganger powers - with the enemy.

This log covers any work and non-work related shenanigans the Knights have while staying in Chicago, immediately following the three mission logs and continuing for four months. This will be the Knight's last time in Chicago before the trial: after which they plan to return to the castle to fully Knight Violet and Dawn and decide where to head next.

Make your own threads, don't fuss about tag order, feel free to threadjack multiple people into one thread for hang-outs, ask me if you want a certain scene with an NPC, etc. forever whatever. There will be a few group scenes, which I'll alert everyone to on Plurk. They may not all be posted immediately, so keep an eye on this post for new threads as time goes by. [for the first week-ish after the concert when everything was all shot to hell and finnick was drinking a lot, that was understandable. he was having a rough week. which turned into a "rough" month, two "rough" months, a million "rough" months … etc. blame archer!! or anxiety/depression. most likely that one. without his fabulous pop star life, his time is pretty evenly divided between the bar, the balcony, and bed. basically skulking around the hotel suite. FEEL FREE TO BOTHER HIM.]

i almost feel bad oocly for how often he harasses finnick. but that's his ic life too.

it's never as easy as things fading away overnight, and part of the deal francesca brokered with burt (along with basically signing rafael's life away to him forever) involved burt coaching finnick through the process of slipping into obscurity. which means some days he still has to go hang out with the guy. DID YOU REALLY THINK IT WAS THAT EASY, FINNICK.

the upshot being burt's free massive open bar in his office. ]

Not quite, sweetcheeks. You still need to do a few interviews, appearances, but we're gonna coach you out of being interesting and into being generic white bread. Maybe get you to start talking nonstop about your charity work. Nothing loses interest faster.

[Finnick, maybe you shouldn't drink so much when you go to bed. Maybe then you wouldn't sleep so heavy that you didn't notice the large creature that has made a home, laying on your torso, paws resting on your chest. Amaranth stares at the man with large, unblinking eyes. At least his wings are pulled under the folds in his fur, so for the most part, he just looks like a big cat.... with bird talons...

[he slowly wakes up to make my plurk cat face, but is only ... somewhat rattled. (will save 15)] Myri! [COME GET YOUR CAT DEMON is what he wants to yell but doesn't ...] Where's Myri?

[There's a swish of the flywacket's tail and a slight push in his front paws, a clear message not to move. Myri's not in the room and doesn't seem to be close enough to hear his call.]

Stop. [It's a clear, simple command. But it comes from nowhere, just an echo in his mind. Finnick is alone in the room... except for his girlfriend's familiar who just keep staring at him.] You need to stop.

Stop what? ... Are you talking to me? [this is way too much to take in at this stage of being awake.]

[He ignores that second part. It's not important and he doesn't have enough time to explain anyway.]

You're hurting yourself. And her. [Or rather, he will. Amaranth is extremely protective of Myrilandel, and he doesn't like what he sees right now. There were plenty of villages before with taverns and men who did not know when the stop.]

Mind if I join you? [ don't worry best boo, vi comes bearing gifts. it's not alcohol but she has a plate with a huge slice of cake on it, and two forks, so that's probably good enough. she holds it out all enticing like if you don't let me hang out here with you I am taking the cake with me. ]

Never. [mmm cake. don't mind if he takes that and puts it on the table next to him.] Are we celebrating something?

It's Tuesday? Seems like a good enough excuse for cake. [ she doesn't need an excuse for cake. ] What's up, fish?

Then we should start having cake every Tuesday. [it's ok, he really doesn't either. he takes one of the forks and gets to business at eating this cake.] Not an awful lot. What about you?

[ she laughs sharply. ] I made friends with the guy that does room service because he winds up making me grilled cheese six times a day. That is literally the most exciting part of my life. [ because she's stuuuuuck with surly mcadorable hair (rafael, ftr) and is bored. ] Hey, can I come visit Burt with you? [ so hopeful. SUCH HOPE. ]

Hey buddy! Bloody Mary? [Archer approaches him with a pair of drinks in hand.] What's new?

Hey! [he'll take that thank you. it's strange how much he's warmed up to archer ... fighting giant dragonworms together will do that i guess.] Not much, just trying to fade into obscurity. How about you? [please don't say you've bought another tank or something ridiculous ... ]

[He flexes some pretty swollen knuckles.] Kind of the same here... not gonna to be barhopping in the Englewood area anytime soon, at least.

[He smiles] Good thing this is a big city, eh?

[should he ask .... probably not .... but he's going to.] What sort of trouble did you get yourself into now?

Well, it starts with some asshole yelling, "That's my wife." And ends with a few pounds of glass shrapnel embedded in my sub-dermal. [He raises his glass, and smiles.] But at least I'm still walkin'. [The way he says that... heavily implies the other guy(s) are not.]

[ SOMEONE MADE YOU COOKIES! and they're pretty good cookies too (craft: baking 14). she makes her way to the couch opposite him, setting the plate down on the table between them. ] Thought you might need a pick-me-up.

It's — it's been quiet. I've had a lot of time alone with my thoughts. [he's afraid to tell her what he's really been feeling — like he might actually miss being famous. especially after she came after he called her crying to get out of it. and especially after myri reminded him of that the second he tried to say anything to her.]
