The trial of Rafael Giovanni looms on the horizon, as summer gives way to fall, the chill in the air creating a definite atmosphere of foreboding as the date grows closer. It's not merely Rafael's freedom on the line after all - but also Des', thanks to the deal he struck with Iscariot. While Francesca and Val'drin work to uncover the secret of the mysterious hourglass artifact, lawyer Jaka Teken'Duis uses his ... unique legal powers to work towards a "Temporary Insanity" case for Rafael. The Knights, unhappy about the potential ramifications of such a plea, continue to seek any evidence they can to show Rafael was actually innocent, and place conspiracy charges back on Chad Becksworth and his ilk for what transpired. Not everything they learn, however, is what they were hoping to find...

Others wage more personal battles, as the coming autumn signals the encroaching winter, and Luthir and Violet's time draws shorter to find a way to stop her nightmares, lest they kill her. Elena plays a dangerous game, working to uncover more of her nature by training her doppelganger powers - with the enemy.

This log covers any work and non-work related shenanigans the Knights have while staying in Chicago, immediately following the three mission logs and continuing for four months. This will be the Knight's last time in Chicago before the trial: after which they plan to return to the castle to fully Knight Violet and Dawn and decide where to head next.

Make your own threads, don't fuss about tag order, feel free to threadjack multiple people into one thread for hang-outs, ask me if you want a certain scene with an NPC, etc. forever whatever. There will be a few group scenes, which I'll alert everyone to on Plurk. They may not all be posted immediately, so keep an eye on this post for new threads as time goes by. [Myri smiles softly and tries to think of how best to say this.]

Do you know what I see when I look at you, Mark? [It's a rhetorical question, because she doubts his answer would be very kind.] I see a man who wants to be better, to do more. I see someone who has a good heart and good intentions, who wants to see the wrongs of the world righted, because that's what heroes do. [She turns towards him and nudges him to face her. Her hand goes to his chest, palm flat over his heart.]

I have met a thousand terrible men in my time, people who would do horrific things to a person simply because they didn't understand them and didn't care to. These men were strong and fearless, but they were not heroes, and you know why? Because they let dark thoughts guide them. You have a light in you, Mark. You only need to believe in that and others will believe in it too.

[ she can actually physically see his chest puffing up as she talks, all of that deflated life going back into him. ] I can't even tell you... how much I think I needed to hear that.

[She looks up at him, so happy to see him looking more like his old self. Her smile breaks into a grin.]

I will always be here to remind you of it. I don't need to know what you're doing to know that you will succeed.

[Her hand pulls back from his chest but immediately, her arms move around his neck because they could all use more hugs lately.]

[ he squeezes her hard ] I'm pretty lucky, to have you around, you know that?

[witchwoman]

I could say the same for you. [She counters, holding tighter before pulling back long enough to press a quick kiss to his cheek. She pulls away and settles back fully on her feet.

Hopefully, I'll prove you right about that.

[witchwoman]

You will. [Theres so much certainty in her voice that it comes without question.]

Now...I think a little room service sounds good, don't you? Care to split a sundae with me?

[She grins and leads the way back into the suite. And then they eat a sundae AND LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER FOR REAL THIS TIME DAMNIT.]
