The trial of Rafael Giovanni looms on the horizon, as summer gives way to fall, the chill in the air creating a definite atmosphere of foreboding as the date grows closer. It's not merely Rafael's freedom on the line after all - but also Des', thanks to the deal he struck with Iscariot. While Francesca and Val'drin work to uncover the secret of the mysterious hourglass artifact, lawyer Jaka Teken'Duis uses his ... unique legal powers to work towards a "Temporary Insanity" case for Rafael. The Knights, unhappy about the potential ramifications of such a plea, continue to seek any evidence they can to show Rafael was actually innocent, and place conspiracy charges back on Chad Becksworth and his ilk for what transpired. Not everything they learn, however, is what they were hoping to find...

Others wage more personal battles, as the coming autumn signals the encroaching winter, and Luthir and Violet's time draws shorter to find a way to stop her nightmares, lest they kill her. Elena plays a dangerous game, working to uncover more of her nature by training her doppelganger powers - with the enemy.

This log covers any work and non-work related shenanigans the Knights have while staying in Chicago, immediately following the three mission logs and continuing for four months. This will be the Knight's last time in Chicago before the trial: after which they plan to return to the castle to fully Knight Violet and Dawn and decide where to head next.

[ SHE'S NOT GOING TO CRY, probably. she's never going to live that down, is she? her expression softens quite a bit at that, although she still seems hesitant as she speaks. ] I know it's all been-- [ she gives a hasty sigh, shaking her head lightly, before looking back to him with a timid smile ] Actually, I don't know what it's been, or what I'm doing, any more than you do. But as far as peace of mind goes, will you tell me what you've been so guarded about, these last few months?

Guarded? I'm not certain I follow.

Oh. [ no, she's sure things are awkward between them, but maybe it's just been her causing it. either way, she doesn't really have a way out of explaining it now. ] No, it's just, something feels... off, between us. I expected it to be different, obviously - I wanted it to be different - so it's not that, you just don't seem quite as content with things as you were, that first night. It's as if there's this big elephant in the room and I'm not quite sure how to alleviate that feeling without just asking.

[ and as she realizes she's just rambling now she quickly tacks on: ] I don't know, maybe I've just been overly sensitive lately.

Not as content? Don't be ridiculous, darling. What on earth gave you that impression?

I'm not quite sure now. [ she gives him a half smile, looking more relaxed at even that small amount of reassurance, and inwardly decides to drop it if he's adamant there's nothing wrong. maybe she's just being a coward, but at least she tried, right? she reaches for the diamond around her neck, looking down at it thoughtfully. ] Certainly not this.

[ her smile grows a little more as she considers it for another moment ] I'm sorry, it was unfair of me to spring that on you like that. If it's really nothing, then forget I said anything. [ she looks back up at him, apologetic ] That probably wasn't the perfect moment you were planning.

Well, I imagined it might end a bit differently, yes. Perhaps with a bit more fawning over my thoughtfulness. We could always go back to that.

[ she grins, moving closer to him again ] Well, this is by far the most thoughtful gift I've ever received, and although you needn't earn my love... [ her smile softens as she slides her arms around his neck ] I'll gladly wear this over my heart as declaration that it belongs to you.

Then I'll consider myself a very lucky man... who has one less thing to worry about all those nights Wynn keeps us apart.

The luckiest. [ she smirks, sliding her hands from his shoulders and down his arms to guide his hands around her waist. she's still not entirely certain he trusts her admission, and so she moves closer still, resting her cheek against his and speaking softly at his ear: ] Promise me if there's anything else I can do to ease your worries, you'll be sure to tell me? I love you, and I couldn't forgive myself for unintentionally pushing you away... again.

[ his hands squeeze gently at her waist and a smile flickers at her words. ] Anything?

[ she pulls back just slightly to look at him ] Yes, anything.

[ /SUGGESTIVE EYEBROWS ]

[ oh. well then... she's not adverse to the sex, by any means, except she's more than aware (wis 18) of how they've both been using it to avoid actually talking about those important issues between them. but it has been over three months, and they do only have this short amount of time together until the trial's over, so she'd rather not completely ruin it. ] Well, you did bring me jewelry, as promised, and I had hoped you would be staying the night. I was even going to offer to make you breakfast in the morning.

How could any man turn down such an offer? [ and he grins like a complete rascal as he gets all up in her space, hands still on her waist. ]

[ damn him and his lascivious charm causing her to go a little weak in the knees. of course, she can give it back just as effortlessly (charm 63), and she's not above fishing for compliments. she takes his hands in her own as she smoothing moves back a step, grinning herself. ] I merely wish your visit to be an exhaustively sensuous affair.

I know, as if I could be any more desirable.

A physical impossibility, I'm afraid. [ as he backs against the bed, the look in his eyes says any potential discussions of relationship problems is off the shelf for the night, or you know, upcoming decade. ] But I've a feeling if we get that dress off, we'll redefine the word.

[ she's obviously quite preoccupied at the moment, as well, and really, she can't be expected to make any sound decisions when he's looking at her like that. she tilts her chin up delicately as she lets out a softhearted chuckle, clearly enamored by his compliments, before fixing her gaze on his again and pulling him even closer. ] Mm. Wait until you see what's underneath.
