The trial of Rafael Giovanni looms on the horizon, as summer gives way to fall, the chill in the air creating a definite atmosphere of foreboding as the date grows closer. It's not merely Rafael's freedom on the line after all - but also Des', thanks to the deal he struck with Iscariot. While Francesca and Val'drin work to uncover the secret of the mysterious hourglass artifact, lawyer Jaka Teken'Duis uses his ... unique legal powers to work towards a "Temporary Insanity" case for Rafael. The Knights, unhappy about the potential ramifications of such a plea, continue to seek any evidence they can to show Rafael was actually innocent, and place conspiracy charges back on Chad Becksworth and his ilk for what transpired. Not everything they learn, however, is what they were hoping to find...

Others wage more personal battles, as the coming autumn signals the encroaching winter, and Luthir and Violet's time draws shorter to find a way to stop her nightmares, lest they kill her. Elena plays a dangerous game, working to uncover more of her nature by training her doppelganger powers - with the enemy.

This log covers any work and non-work related shenanigans the Knights have while staying in Chicago, immediately following the three mission logs and continuing for four months. This will be the Knight's last time in Chicago before the trial: after which they plan to return to the castle to fully Knight Violet and Dawn and decide where to head next.

Make your own threads, don't fuss about tag order, feel free to threadjack multiple people into one thread for hang-outs, ask me if you want a certain scene with an NPC, etc. forever whatever. There will be a few group scenes, which I'll alert everyone to on Plurk. They may not all be posted immediately, so keep an eye on this post for new threads as time goes by. In case you haven't noticed, forgetting about things I cannot control isn't one of my strong suits.

[If she jokes about her flaws, they're less blatant, right??]

[bigbad]

No, love. You just want to fix everything for everyone. [He gives her hand an extra squeeze at that.] But sometimes, you've got to let others do the fixing. It can't always be on you.

[witchwoman]

[She sighs, because this lecture is one she's heard so many times by now.]

I'm trying. It's just hard. When I see people hurting, I want to make it stop. It's a bit like my gift, but this is a pain that can't be stopped with magic. I wish it could.

[bigbad]

I know the feeling. [There's a lot of things he wishes could be stopped by magic, sometimes. Still, he shakes his head.] Wouldn't be real, though. If you could fix feelings like that.

[witchwoman]

So what are we meant to do? Sit and wait and hope?

[bigbad]

And fight. Do all that research bollocks if you can stomach it. [He gives her a slim smile and presses a kiss to her hair.] You help more than you know, just being alive and yourself.

[witchwoman]

[Myri doesn't much believe that, but it's a nice thought. She smiles and lets the subject drop for now. Her stomach will be in knots over it for days- weeks, maybe. Until they've seen things put back into the right place, she's going to feel like her world isn't right. Because it's not.]

I'll do my best to stay myself, then.

[bigbad]

There's a good girl. [His smile widens a bit.] Ready to head back to the hotel? Or would you rather keep enjoying the night life?

[witchwoman]

Perhaps sleep would be good. Let's go home.

[As strange as it may seem to call the hotel 'home,' Myri does see it as such. Her family is there. That's all that matters.]

[bigbad]

[It's how Spike sees it too. They've lived there a hell of a lot longer than any other place.]

Plus, getting all cozy with your boy Finnick.

[Can you hear that teasing grin? There's a teasing grin in there.]

[witchwoman]

[Damnit Spike- Myri was trying to avoid talking about Finnick because she doesn't want to get into the things she's been worried about with him. Time to lie to her dad...]

Well, yes of course. [Being with this group has made her better at lying that she really wants to be... but it does come in handy sometimes (bluff 21). She pairs the words with a light smile as they head back to the hotel.]

[bigbad]

[With his bluff check of 16, Spike's got nothing. FEEL BAD, MYRI. FEEL BAD.]

Good. I'm glad you two have each other.

[witchwoman]

[SHE DOES FEEL BAD OKAY. But she also is glad that she doesn't have to talk about it right now. So she just hums her agreement and leans against him as they make their way back to the hotel.]
