Unlike the grandiose nature of the squiring ceremony each Knight undergoes upon their initial entrance into the Knighthood, the graduation to Full Knight status takes place in a much more intimate affair, between the Knight, their mentor, invited friends, and the members of the sect to which they will be inducted. There's no pompous music, no stolid rank and file, no elaborate march.

Faye's invitees are given seats of honor at the front of the ranks of the Dragon's Fire members  and Nessa, Wynn, and Hasmed wait up at the front of the room for Faye to approach them, but the attitude of the ceremony is much more relaxed, full of smiles and light conversation on all sides from the other sect members.

Wynn finally gets things rolling, by saying in his loud listen-to-me voice: "Approach and kneel, Sir Faye Chamberlain."

Oh. [Her face falls a little, but she tries to cover it quickly (bluff 16). She's not jealous of your special trip to another country to teach your actual squire magic. Nope. Not at all. Not even a little.]

[(wisdom 16) GIRL HE KNOWS THAT LOOK.] You know Emma well enough to know that she isn't as receptive to lessons as you are. [And he may or may not be refusing to promote her until she learns some fucking magic. He doesn't know why it's so important to him, but it is.]

[Faye hates when people can see through her. She drops her gaze to the floor, embarrassed and mad at herself.]

You just gotta know how to talk to her. [AKA- I did okay when you had me teach her. WHY DON'T YOU TAKE ME ON YOUR MAGIC TRIP TOO???]

[BECAUSE LILA ALREADY FILLED THE GRATUITOUS TEENAGER POSITION. SOB.]

You got her using magic during that last mission. [He assumes... since Emma mentioned her flare spell.]

She might have. [non committal shrug.] We weren't together the whole time. But we practiced a little here. She was showing me how to shoot and I showed her how you taught me to access my magic. And then she did a spell.

Perhaps she should have been your squire. [he and emma are a match made in hell, but he's hoping this mission changes that.]

Yeah, right. We'd probably kill each other within a month. [She doesn't want your squire. She barely wants one of her own.]

There is that. You're actually capable of exhibiting patience, and she well... She has a ways to go. [Which is HILARIOUS, considering, but have you met Emma? I MEAN REALLY???]

She doesn't want it. [Faye shrugs again, pleased as a kitten for the compliments but not showing it outwardly.] Magic. It's there but she's not great at it and she doesn't want it bad enough to be patient with it. [It was the only reason Faye had managed to slow down and put in the time with his lessons. Power was all she wanted.]

So maybe you need to find what she wants and make magic worth as much as that.

What Emma wants is stability. If there's one thing I know about her, it's that. She wants to belong somewhere. [That enough is an easy read- she's an orphan. What orphan doesn't want that?] It's difficult to compare the value of magic to the value of family, but when it comes to protecting it... Well, I think I might could convince her.

[and that's why this field trip needs to happen.]

Sounds like you've got it all figured out. Do you think she'll join the Dragon's Fire? [Slightly bristled because Faye doesn't like sharing attention but Emma isn't so bad so it's only a little pricklyness to her tone.]

I don't think she wants to. [A chuckle.] She might end up in the Hide just to spite me.

She's good at hitting things. [It's not a bad place for people, okay. And it would mean that she wouldn't have to worry about her taking up Gold's time as much. But then again... magic. She just enjoys being around it. And Emma's not bad or anything. She's actually kind of cool.] But she might come around.

She might. But that's all the more reason for this little excursion. [C'mon Faye, share the love.] And now that I don't have to borrow you from Nessa, I'm sure I can convince Wynn to send you out with me sometime.

I may hold you to that. [She gives him a smile that's genuine and a little hopeful. She seeks approval more than she admits to herself.]
