Just like Fred said, at the top of the main staircase is the entrance to an incredibly spacious room, that has gym and weight training equipment on the wall near the door, and then lots of old school training dummies and more at the far end. A glass door enters into a firing range, and another pair of large doors on the farthest wall lead to the armory.

The room's full of the clanging of metal, as Dovan and Luthir fight, sword to axe, across the room, and Fred gathers everyone up on the gym side to explain things.

Kiddin' aside, you can teach me to shoot this?

Sure can! I mean, it doesn't get much easier. You just have to be careful because of how powerful they are.

[piratitude]

Aye. That woman with the gadgets said they could pierce armor.

[shootfirst]

Exactly! So just imagine what they could do to say, someone's head. [She'll draw out her own weapon, holding it up to show off the mechanics] The bullet fires out this end, hella fast, and all the mechanisms to get it going are inside the casing here. So all you do is pull this trigger and BAM.

Sounds easy enough, but I'm sure there's a trick to it, otherwise they'd just hand us the things and send us on our way.

Ok, well there's some things like... recoil and proper grippage and trigger management...

... We should probably start at the beginning. Always treat a gun like its loaded and could go off and kill somebody at any moment. So don't wave it around like you might do with a knife or something.

Not unlike a crossbow. Generally you don't want to point it at something unless you intend to be putting a bolt in it.

Exactly. Same concept.

Ok, so, holding the thing. Your dominant hand is your gun hand and you need to keep it gripped high on the back of the gun like this. It'll give you way more leverage when the thing jerks.

How much of a kick are we talking?

On the Knight issued guns? It's really not so bad. But if you don't have a solid grip, well... bad things could happen.

I bet. Why don't you give me a demonstration?

Gladly! [ And she merrily moves to the line, popping a pair of big headphones over her ears and taking aim. Her tongue pokes out of the corner of her mouth as she pulls the trigger... and lands remarkably close to the bullseye. ] See? Easy!
