The party arrives in the bustling city of Cairo around mid-day, where it's a beautiful 70 degrees outside compared to the cold London January they came from. Along with whatever gear they brought individually for tomb raiding*, Wynn has also sent them with a chest of 2,000 gold pieces - because the woman who has promised to take them to meet Raegos (the only living man who can claim to have seen the lost tomb) plans to meet them at an antiquities auction.

Wynn has pre-arranged with the woman, who goes by the name of the Mithral Scarab, to recognize the party by the fact that they will cast several bids at the auction - and all of their opening bids will always be exactly ten gold more than the starting price. Once she has recognized them, she will find a way to show them a symbol of the Knights of the Silver Dragon discreetly to identify herself, and they are to follow her away from the crowd. Raegos' rumored paranoia concerning anyone else learning his location seems well demonstrated by the levels of security embedded in Scarab's directions.

The auction itself is a direct result of the recent elemental-driven storm that has unearthed a number of structures long buried in the desert. Some industrious tomb raiders have already taken to looting the lesser pyramids, and this underground sale promises to deliver some of the discovered goods into the hands of eager collectors. Wynn's generous supply of furnished gold was delivered to them with explicit instructions to purchase anything that they thought might be an item of actual valuable historical or magical significance, to become the property of the Knighthood.

[ remember that time ella crit failed her camel riding check and it became bffs with her hair instead of actually doing anything? well, so does ella. while the camels are being located, she gives into instinct and summons a phantom steed, thus named elmer.

at least this time her ride check was a 17, her smokey horse patiently allowing her to scramble atop it, finger gently curling around it's reins.

when lonicera snaps at her, she silently lets lis'sa defend her. lis'sa is a hell of a lot scarier than ella is and everyone knows it. she didn't drop him on purpose and she does feel bad that he died, but they tried their hardest to get everyone out alive -- including helping lonicera herself out of the pit -- and ella isn't going to let one woman's grief make her feel like they didn't try their best. ]

Let's get on with it. [ with a nat 20 ride, lis'sa clucks her camel onward, and starts away, while lonicera fends off scepter's attempts to help her onto hers. ]

[Dimitri's ride check is a mightly 23, and he has no trouble steering his camel after Lis'sa's.]

[ it's only after they've rode within sight of the city, without incident, scepter and lonicera having rode far astray from them, that lis'sa looks over to ella, watching her for a moment, before she says: ] We need to talk about what happened to you.

I died. [ she's firm and blunt because she refuses to have emotions. ] I died and it wasn't a cleric that brought me back. Phineas turned me, we both know what that means.

[ ella is surprised she's still alive, frankly, after they killed the pharaoh and destroyed the pyramid. she'd assumed she'd be trapped there like raegos' nightmares and now that she's not... well, she just assumes she won't be leaving with them. it isn't as if wynn can just have wild undead roaming around, that wouldn't be safe or practical. ]

[Dimitri picks up on what she's getting at (wis 20) and is having none of that.]

You can keep it, seeing as you're still coming back with us.

[He doesn't care if he's still a squire (l o l). He's putting his foot down tyvm.]

Of course you are. You wouldn't be the first undead to number among our ranks. [ lis'sa that is not a comforting way to put it ] And you still have control of yourself, clearly, despite ankana's best efforts. Whatever manner of ritual she performed, I think it's something that's been lost, for years untold. I've never heard of such a thing.

[ whatever protest she was thinking about offering are lost as her mouth snaps shut, heartened by dimitri's sincerity and further bolstered by lis'sa... actually fairly comforting pragmatism. she trusts lis'sa to be blunt and to the point, the fact that it's in her favor speaks volumes and gives ella a little hope. she doesn't like being called undead, but she's also not going to fight it -- because she is.

she doesn't say thank you, already feeling too uncomfortable to be grateful, but she does accept their faith in her which is about all she can muster right now. ] Perhaps Raegos' has..?

If he doesn't, we'll deal with it. Wynn will need to be informed of this... change, but he can help you find ways to deal with it, if you'd prefer that this information doesn't spread like wildfire around the castle. I imagine we can trust everyone here to keep it to their chest.

[sorceresslite]

[ her head bobs in a short nod. ] I would prefer that, yeah.

[ she can barely deal with the fact that she's ...something. she can't deal with other people dealing with it right now. possibly ever. ]

[Dimitri nods. There's one person in particular he's not fond of keeping things from, but he doesn't believe it will come up regardless.]

I won't speak of it.

In the meantime, I'll do what I can to research whatever we learn about your... condition, as it were.

[ she nods, reaching up to rub the back of her neck, phantom horse nickering in response to her anxiety. ]
