Everybody loves a media circus and the trial of Rafael Giovanni is no exception. If he was famous before, in the days following the shooting, now he's all people are talking about, and all the tabloids want to focus on. The complications presented at some of the early hearings by Jaka, regarding the identity of the Black Scourge and Rafael's alleged reaction have only made the story more appealing to the millions watching.

They've also caused the trial to drag out for months as facts are checked, evidence is poured over, and the jury becomes only more split on the issue. In the meantime, the holidays fly by, and one of the most terrible winters in years blankets Chicago in blizzards.

This log covers any work and non-work related shenanigans the Knights have while staying in Chicago, immediately following the last log and continuing for the next couple months. This will be the Knight's last time in Chicago before the trial: after which they plan to return to the castle to fully Knight Violet and Elena and decide where to head next.

Wow. [ vi's blue eyes get huge and she actually sits up, reaching out to grab the jar of cherries because she's a weirdo. ] You weren't kidding when you said this was massive.

[witchwoman]

[Its the biggest reaction that Myri has gotten from Vi all day. So she gets over eager and digs into the sundae. Unfortunately, this is a terrible plain and a few bites in she ends up with a bad case of brain freeze. She makes a yelping sort of sound and drops her spoon, mouth still full.]

[graveflowers]

Oh, no! Myri, put your tongue against the roof of your mouth. [ wis 22, she just knows ice cream eating tricks, i guess. ] Do it, the warmth from your tongue will trick your brain and the brain freeze will go away.

[witchwoman]

[Following the instructions, the pain fades a little but she still has a mouthful of ice cream to wrestle with so it's still incredibly uncomfortable. For someone who can feel the pain of someone dying and still run to help them, you would think she would have a higher pain tolerance...]

[graveflowers]

Sweetie, just spit it out! [ she can't help the tiny laugh, because the situation is a little bit absurd. ]

[witchwoman]

[The suggestion actually pulls Myri out of her pain daze a little.]

Spih ih ow? [She talks around the mouthful as she glances around, still wincing a little. Never let it be said that a serious gal can't be a comic relief every now and again. It's like ice cream makes you channel Mark or something.]

[graveflowers]

[ grabbing an empty glass off the side table, she shoves it at myri, shaking her head fondly. ] Spit it out.

[witchwoman]

[Blehhhh. Out comes the ice cream into the glass. S-so classy, Myri. With it gone, though, she can press her tongue back to the roof of her mouth and get rid of the last of the pain. She starts to breath a little easier.]

How'd you know? About the tongue thing?

[graveflowers]

I dunno. It's just... a thing. Like the hiccups thing.

[witchwoman]

I met villagers once who believed that hiccups were a sign of great wisdom, and that the next thought you had once they stopped would show you where your life should take you.

[She shakes her head.] I tried to tell them differently, but they were so content to live that way.

[graveflowers]

Bitches be crazy. [ such an intellectual point... ]

[witchwoman]

They didn't know any better. [But also yes. They do really be crazy.] So what sort of thing do you know about hiccups then?

[graveflowers]

If you put a paper towel over a glass of water and drink it through the paper towel, voila, gone. [ she leans back against the pillows now that myri isn't in distress, twisting the cap off the cherry jar. ]

[witchwoman]

You realize all those little tricks are what most witchwomen learn, don't you? I don't know why you were so surprised when you managed to heal me before.

[graveflowers]

That's just... I don't know, science or something. [ her dad taught her, but she doesn't remember that. :'( ] My mom's kids just don't.... heal.

[witchwoman]

Maybe they do and you just don't remember. It's possible, isn't it?

I felt it, Vi. You healed me.

[graveflowers]

Or it was a fluke. And you healed you through me? Ever think of that? [ HUH?! DID YOU, MYRI? never mind that she healed buffy the same way and it was an actual action for the other woman, whereas healing myri had been completely instinctive and she didn't really have any control over it. and she is fine with brushing aside healing buffy to make a point. clearly she hasn't accepted it much since their last conversation about this. :| sorry, myri. ]

[witchwoman]

We could find out. [She says with a tentative smile.] We could see if you can do it again?

[graveflowers]

I can barely... [ she waves a hand at a vase of flowers that looks forlorn and pathetic, instead of the bright, vibrant flowers she usually has around her. ]

[witchwoman]

So? You don't think you did it in the first place, so what's the harm in trying?

[graveflowers]

[ her eyes narrow slightly. she knows myri means well, but it doesn't feel any less like she's being pressured into it. ] You know manipulation doesn't really become you.

[witchwoman]

[Her smile drops and she pulls back a bit like she's been slapped.]

I can't make you do anything, Vi. But I know what it's like to be uncertain about what you can do, what it could mean. And the only way to know for sure is to try. I just thought...that maybe you could feel safe if it was just me.

[graveflowers]

If it's just you, I know who I'm going to have to try to heal, Myri! [ she can't find it in herself to apologize for snapping, because it was rude, but she's not entirely stupid. she can't heal herself so the only alternative is myri. which she will not ever ask her friend to do. ]

[witchwoman]

[While Myri works through the shock and hurt feelings, her familiar takes it upon himself to hop up on the best talons carefully stepping over all the blanket folds. He fixes Vi with a stare, and for a moment, Myri wonders if he's speaking to her. The next thing she knows, he's raising one of his feet, birdlike talons sharp and slashes his other front leg. Immediately, he flops on his back, still looking at Violet.

Flywackets are assholes. Dramatic assholes.]

Amaranth, what are you-? [She shifts forward but stops as his voice creeps into her mind, telling her to stop. She manages to hold herself back (will 18), hands twisting with confusion and worry.]

[graveflowers]

[ vi speaks brackets. ] You're an asshole, Amaranth. [ she sighs heavily and for a while she just wants to let him suffer in pain because she hates feeling like she's being pushed into something and he would deserve it for being a jerk.

but she can't do that to myri, which vi knows he knows, so she hesitantly reaches out her hand to attempt to heal him. it's a pretty half assed attempt, but she's nowhere near the right mindset to try. (infuse with life +6 hp) ]
