Everybody loves a media circus and the trial of Rafael Giovanni is no exception. If he was famous before, in the days following the shooting, now he's all people are talking about, and all the tabloids want to focus on. The complications presented at some of the early hearings by Jaka, regarding the identity of the Black Scourge and Rafael's alleged reaction have only made the story more appealing to the millions watching.

They've also caused the trial to drag out for months as facts are checked, evidence is poured over, and the jury becomes only more split on the issue. In the meantime, the holidays fly by, and one of the most terrible winters in years blankets Chicago in blizzards.

This log covers any work and non-work related shenanigans the Knights have while staying in Chicago, immediately following the last log and continuing for the next couple months. This will be the Knight's last time in Chicago before the trial: after which they plan to return to the castle to fully Knight Violet and Elena and decide where to head next.

As a... scholar, do you think there's much validity to such a prophecy?

[rationalizes]

It depends on where it came from. There are plenty of prophets who have been little more than those with strong imaginations on very strong hallucinogens... and then there are those who are truly granted a gift of Sight.

Apparently it's a source Wynn must trust, as he's commissioned murals to portray it. [ she sounds uncertain, or annoyed, or something ] Did Jack Chessing have anything else to share about it?

[rationalizes]

[ gar's eyes slide away, the tiniest bit of color rising in her cheeks. ] Sir Chessing said that it was an oracle.

[socialgraces]

[ she notices her unusual reaction, but makes no mention of it at the moment ] Some centuries ago, apparently.

I don't mean to come across so cynical, but you can understand my specific interest in all of it. [ as she idly fingers the gem at her throat ]

[rationalizes]

I can... I wish I had more to tell you. It seems strange that Wynn invests quite so much in it.

That was my concern, as well. He can be rather... single-minded when he's determined.

[rationalizes]

I still trust his judgment, of course. There must be something we don't know.

Well, yes, obviously. Do you think he'll elaborate further when this mission is over?

[rationalizes]

Perhaps. Although if the Prophecy holds true, I imagine we'll learn much more in time...

[socialgraces]

[ that's... really not comforting, gar ] I suppose it's best not to play into the self-fulfilling prophecy aspect of it. Although I'm not certain that's even a risk, at this point, with how little we know.

[rationalizes]

[ WHY IS IT HER JOB TO COMFORT EVERYBODY ] Perhaps, and I understand that that was Wynn's reasoning but... it seems that if there's any information that might help us, isn't it better for us to have all that information, so we can look at it as another objective fact to take into account?

[socialgraces]

That's what I said, too! [ she's just glad someone actually agrees with her for once ] Also, if we're to face such danger, we should be aware of it.

[rationalizes]

[ she nods ] I would hope Sir Chessing might understand that, but... He is a Dragon's Claw, I suppose I should expect him to stand by Wynn's decree.

[socialgraces]

That doesn't mean he can't question it, though.

However, he's a most honorable man, and I'm sure he has more than just Wynn's word dictating his decision to keep it under wraps.

[rationalizes]

That's certainly true as well. If we're going to be fighting drow, I don't think we can expect to be facing armies head on, however. Although his followers are less backhanded than the Spider Queen's.

[socialgraces]

I think that can be said of most all other groups. [ she doubts there's anyone quite as backhanded as the Spider Queen, herself ] I think I will speak to Teken'duis more, should the chance arise. I'm not sure how aware he actually is of the situation, but I might be able to extract some useful information.

[rationalizes]

Just be careful. He... clearly already had his eye on you, and learning more of where you come from.

[socialgraces]

Well, he'll know how to get what he wants, if he's really that interested. Perhaps it's best I head him off before he interrogates the rest of the team. [ b/c that's what she would do ]

[rationalizes]

No, I... I think you're right. It's the wisest call.

By the way, I know the others don't think to tell you this enough, but you've managed this team through unimaginable hardship with immense respectability. I wanted to thank you for that, too.

[rationalizes]

[ DAWWWW look she's glowing ] W-why thank you. I'll admit it's... difficult to see it that way... most of the time.

Well, you have an enviable amount of patience. [ which is saying a lot coming from her ] And this certainly isn't a routine mission, by any means.

[rationalizes]

Not at all. But I'm honored to have been given the responsibility.
