Everybody loves a media circus and the trial of Rafael Giovanni is no exception. If he was famous before, in the days following the shooting, now he's all people are talking about, and all the tabloids want to focus on. The complications presented at some of the early hearings by Jaka, regarding the identity of the Black Scourge and Rafael's alleged reaction have only made the story more appealing to the millions watching.

They've also caused the trial to drag out for months as facts are checked, evidence is poured over, and the jury becomes only more split on the issue. In the meantime, the holidays fly by, and one of the most terrible winters in years blankets Chicago in blizzards.

This log covers any work and non-work related shenanigans the Knights have while staying in Chicago, immediately following the last log and continuing for the next couple months. This will be the Knight's last time in Chicago before the trial: after which they plan to return to the castle to fully Knight Violet and Elena and decide where to head next.

[ it's alright b/c gar notices, with her wis check of 16 ] How... how are you doing, Myrilandel?

I'm... [Wow, she can't even think about lying- not to Gar.] I don't know, truthfully. There are moments when it seems unbearable and others when I can almost forget what's happened.

[Which really only speaks to the disconnect she had with Finnick at all, that any part of being so distant from him could feel normal]

I suppose I know what you mean.

[She just nods and is silent for a few moments longer, trying to work up the nerve.]

If... [She stops and shakes her head.] That is to say, would it be at all possible to... [She hates this. God, she doesn't know how to say it.]

Has anyone ever... taken leave on a mission?

A leave? [ she looks too surprised right now to really react or let that settle in yet ] Back to the castle, you mean?

[She just nods, obviously nervous about asking- especially with how surprised Gar seems by the notion.]

It's not... entirely... unheard of, no, not on long missions. Did something happen? Do you need to go ... deal with something?

[She doesn't have a reason to lie to Gar, but it somehow feels all the more ridiculous to say out loud.]

Finnick and I... We aren't... [She sighs, frustrated with herself.] We aren't together any longer and it's...hard being here. I've always been a weaker part of the team because of how my gift effects me, but now it's... I just don't think I can be here right now.

[its not just the break up, but explaining how much the assault on Des effected her is difficult, or her conversation with him the night prior.]

You-- [ sympathetic understanding rises in her eyes as she looks to myri for confirmation that this is all the truth. ] Oh Myrilandel... I'm so sorry to hear. I can't imagine what you must be going through.

I don't think I can ... blame you at all, for not feeling comfortable staying so close to one another right now.

Part of me doesn't want to go, but I fear how effective I can be now. The last thing I want is to be a reason that someone ends up hurt. And...I think it might be better...for me.

I know this mission has been a... a mess in many ways--

None of which are your fault. I hope you know that. [Most sincere face in the history of all sincere faces.] I owe you a lot- all of you, but... How many more times can we spare someone to hold me back from running into a fight because I can't control my urge to heal the nearest wounded person?

I don't think any of us could live with it if something happened to you, Myri. If you really think it's for the best, perhaps --

Perhaps some time awhile will give you the time to focus on gaining that control, in a less... stressful environment?

[She nods, glancing down at her lap. Part of her is glad that Gar isn't fighting her on it, that she doesn't need to stand firm in her resolve, because she might not be able to. She's having a hard enough time keeping her voice steady as it is.]

I'm sure there are better healers that Wynn could send in my place.

[S-so optimistic.]

Myri, we aren't going to replace you. You're the best healer we could ever ask for. You've healed more than injuries on this mission - I've seen you heal hearts and minds and spirits. We'll be waiting for you, when you're ready.

[Somehow, she manages not to burst into tears at that.]

Thank you, I... That means a lot to me. Can I ask you a favor, though? Don't tell anyone. If I tell them, they're going to try to convince me to stay and... and I don't think I'll be able to say no.

While I don't think many of them will be pleased by the decision, it... is your right to do so. And I'll certainly respect it. [ she places a hand on top of myri's ] And for what it's worth, Myri, I will miss you very much.

[She turns her hand over to hold Gar's lightly.]

Thank you. I'll miss you too. More than you know.

[ gar gives her hand a warm squeeze ] Thank you for being honest about all this.

Of course. I could never lie to you. I owe you quite a lot.

Anything you feel you owe me, you've paid me back more than ten times over.

[The smile she gives is genuine, even if it's small.]

I don't know about that. But of all my experiences here, learning from you remains one of my most treasured.

[You helped her learn to read and she still thinks the world of you for that ;;]

I'm very proud to have been your teacher, Myri. And for you to have been mine.

[Yep, can't stop herself from crying. She smiles through it and nods, looking over her shoulder and trying to compose herself.]
