Everybody loves a media circus and the trial of Rafael Giovanni is no exception. If he was famous before, in the days following the shooting, now he's all people are talking about, and all the tabloids want to focus on. The complications presented at some of the early hearings by Jaka, regarding the identity of the Black Scourge and Rafael's alleged reaction have only made the story more appealing to the millions watching.

They've also caused the trial to drag out for months as facts are checked, evidence is poured over, and the jury becomes only more split on the issue. In the meantime, the holidays fly by, and one of the most terrible winters in years blankets Chicago in blizzards.

This log covers any work and non-work related shenanigans the Knights have while staying in Chicago, immediately following the last log and continuing for the next couple months. This will be the Knight's last time in Chicago before the trial: after which they plan to return to the castle to fully Knight Violet and Elena and decide where to head next.

[While everyone helps themselves to booze, Myri just gets up from the floor and heads for her room. She's exhausted and near a breaking point after all of that. She's not interested in hanging out at the after party.]

[ francesca watches myri go, concern etched on her features, but she can't resist the call of alcohol, especially not right now. she makes her way over to the group, trying her best to ignore the copious amounts of blood... everywhere, and takes a seat somewhere relatively clean.

oh, she'll take a donut, too. ] I certainly never expected that out of this team.

[Elena finishes cleaning up as best she can, but she wants a shower soon for sure. She tosses the towel she was using on top of what they need to clean, since it'll come in handy again anyway.]

Neither did I.

[She sounds sad as she says it quietly.]

[finnick knows he should go comfort myri and be a good boyfriend ... but he just doesn't have the energy in him to do it right now. SURELY THAT BODES WELL. instead, he takes a seat next to francesca, feeling like his desire for alcohol is implied. and not wanting to say as much thanks to spike.] I can't be completely surprised, with our team's tendency to act first and think later.

[ she looks first to elena and then to finnick ] But you were right what you said, that was nothing short of torture. There's definitely some issues here that need to be resolved.

[ and she takes a bite of her donut - because apparently all this blood doesn't bother her, as long as it doesn't get on her - and looks back to archer expectantly for that drink. ]

[Archer begins pouring... several drinks, for those yet in attendance - and motioning towards the donuts, for those who haven't snagged one yet.]

Seems to be a few uh... broken links in the chain-of-command in this operation... [Archer looks at Elena, remembering he promised to be nice-ish to Gar.] I mean, isn't it kind of Jeanne's job to keep us all... on task, and/or not murdering each other? She's like, the senior operative, right? [Most nice Archer can potentially be?]

Hey, it's not Gar's fault half the people here should be heavily medicated. And clearly aren't even a little bit so. [ yeah, jumping in before gar can get upset, because she sure raised her eyes from cleaning up the gas, looking horribly distraught. MOVING ON BEFORE GAR CRIES. ] I mean Des came in here babbling about how we're all being controlled by like, alien overlords or something, pretty sure.

[Archer tilts a glass in Kat's direction.]

Well, maybe more of them should self-medicate, eh? [And he grins, as he takes a drink.]

And hell, maybe he's right. I mean, we just poof into this world randomly... Why not alien overlords, I say. Makes more sense than that "magic" nonsense people keep going on about.

I hate to break it to you, but I'm pretty sure that 'magic stuff' is real, Archer.

[Seriously, dude, you've had plenty of time to come to terms with that.

And she'll just...snag that doughnut after taking a long sip from her drink. And yes, she totally makes a face. She's not used to taking it straight, you know.]

[Archer comes to terms with things at his own pace. Which is to say, potentially never.]

Oh, but aliens are not?

[Archer raises his hand up.]

Show of hands - how many of us have been into space? Anybody? [Notably leaving out that he saw absolutely no signs of alien life while in space himself.]

Who knows? Maybe they are. I haven't met one yet, though.

[And driiiiink. Also, damn, these doughnuts are delicious. Nothing like drowning sorrows in booze and sugar.]

They used to think we were aliens - those that came through the veil. Apparently that's easier to reconcile than magic, as Archer, here, has so aptly demonstrated.

I'm sure this predicament with the Grays holds a similar, more reasonable explanation. [ she takes a drink ] Although it's not something I have any particular interest in delving into.
