Everybody loves a media circus and the trial of Rafael Giovanni is no exception. If he was famous before, in the days following the shooting, now he's all people are talking about, and all the tabloids want to focus on. The complications presented at some of the early hearings by Jaka, regarding the identity of the Black Scourge and Rafael's alleged reaction have only made the story more appealing to the millions watching.
They've also caused the trial to drag out for months as facts are checked, evidence is poured over, and the jury becomes only more split on the issue. In the meantime, the holidays fly by, and one of the most terrible winters in years blankets Chicago in blizzards.
This log covers any work and non-work related shenanigans the Knights have while staying in Chicago, immediately following the last log and continuing for the next couple months. This will be the Knight's last time in Chicago before the trial: after which they plan to return to the castle to fully Knight Violet and Elena and decide where to head next.
Make your own threads, don't fuss about tag order, feel free to threadjack multiple people into one thread for hang-outs, ask me if you want a certain scene with an NPC, etc. forever whatever.

It's just better if I keep my distance.
[Things that are not an explanation.]

[Since you felt like we needed to bring that up again.]

What makes it complicated, though? Every chance you get, you remind us that you're not a knight, that you're not one of us. You do everything you can to push yourself away, but... but you still stay here. You don't have to stay with us, but you do.

What are you so afraid of?
no subject
I'm not afraid of anything.

Des. [Just his name for now, a quiet little plea for him not to shut her out. She's had her fill of that from Finnick and Vi lately. She's felt like an outsider in her own home, felt like she can't talk to anyone some days. And she knows she has no right to ask him to tell her anything that he doesn't want to, but she's doing it anyway.]

[He grabs his boots and his jacket and just... walks on out.]
no subject
But she's losing everything anyway, so why not try one last time?
So she gets up and pads after him, not bothering to find shoes or a jacket. Her pajamas aren't too indecent for her to mind being seen elsewhere in the hotel in them. She catches up to him out in the hallway, probably headed for the elevator.]
Is that it? You'll just keep running until you forget about all of us?
[It's only partially about him specifically. It's more about his behavior being just one more thing that's breaking apart the stability she had come to rely on.]

Just stop. I'm tired of everyone lying and running and hiding and drowning their problems because they think it's somehow easier. What has it gotten you? Where has it gotten you anywhere but alone? I fought too hard to find a home, to find a family. Like it or not, you're part of that, so I'm not just going to let you walk away.
no subject
No, you're the one who needs to walk away. You need to go. Go anywhere else, forget this mission, forget them, forget it all, because it's gonna kill you. Pain follows these people. Pain follows me. And you're not gonna be able to fix it and it's gonna break you and no one wants to see that happen, 'least of all me. You're too good for that. You wanna make a decision for yourself without anyone telling you what you should feel? Consider that one.
[He pushes past her and slams a finger on the call button. Almost instantly the elevator opens and he backs into it.] You want honest advice, Myri? Go home.
no subject
Look at her now... Chasing him down and demanding that he talk to her. No wonder he wants to run as fast as he can. She takes a step back from the elevator as he backs into her, tears shining in her eyes, much as she tries to hold them back. She doesn't say a word, just looks at him, mouth half open as she wishes she had anything to say in protest. But she doesn't.
So she lets the elevator doors close. And some part of her wonders if that's the last conversation she'll have with him.]
