Everybody loves a media circus and the trial of Rafael Giovanni is no exception. If he was famous before, in the days following the shooting, now he's all people are talking about, and all the tabloids want to focus on. The complications presented at some of the early hearings by Jaka, regarding the identity of the Black Scourge and Rafael's alleged reaction have only made the story more appealing to the millions watching.

They've also caused the trial to drag out for months as facts are checked, evidence is poured over, and the jury becomes only more split on the issue. In the meantime, the holidays fly by, and one of the most terrible winters in years blankets Chicago in blizzards.

This log covers any work and non-work related shenanigans the Knights have while staying in Chicago, immediately following the last log and continuing for the next couple months. This will be the Knight's last time in Chicago before the trial: after which they plan to return to the castle to fully Knight Violet and Elena and decide where to head next.

How do you..? [Myri squints, head tilted a bit in confusion. No really, Kat- please explain how you accidentally drink with someone.]

Ok, fine, maybe not so accidental, but a mistake. With a capital M.

Why? He seems nice. Not that I've talked to him much, though. Did he do something..? [Knowing a little more about Kat's past, she can't help but be a little concerned.]

she shifts uncomfortably, practically squirming ] Or... I don't know. That's the problem.



[ there's a beat, and then she says quickly, in her crit fail will save rush: ] We used to talk more sometimes, because I liked to give him crap, but one night I told him we should break into Wynn's cellar and snag some fey wine, and that stuff is not something to fuck around with, and we got abso-fucking sloshed off our asses down there, and I said... some shit that was dumb as fuck and --

I don't remember anything happening. But that doesn't mean it didn't. You know how men are.

[ she snorts ] I know how men are.

[Myri knows about fey wine. She sang to a whole bar because of it.

She misses Thomas a little.

But that's not really the point. Myri doesn't understand Kat's stance, but that doesn't make it any less valid. The woman's experiences have formed this opinion, and while she may be judging someone on the mistakes of others, she won't fault her for it.]

Have you talked to him since then? Asking him about it?

No, I can't ask him about it, are you kidding? I can hardly even look at him! I mean who knows what I said in the first place and--- how much he remembers, and --

No. No way. Not in a million years.

[witchwoman]

What do you... What do you think you said? You must remember enough to think it was dumb.

[At first, Myri isn't sure how to react. She's never heard Kat talk about having feelings for anyone. And for how reluctant she's been to talk about this at all, she knows that she has to be careful, else she'll just be shut out in a hurry.]

And do you remember what happened after? Did he say anything?

[shootfirst]

I don't know. It's all just a big blur after that.

[witchwoman]

So it's possible that he could have said that he felt the same. [She says it carefully, like she's trying not to scare a wounded animal.]

[shootfirst]

[ her face scrunches up again, as if she's actively rejecting the idea ] He could have said a lot of things. Guys'll say anything to get what they want.

[witchwoman]

That's not just men, Kat. People will say anything to get what they want. But that doesn't mean they always want the worst.

[shootfirst]

It doesn't mean they don't, either.

[witchwoman]

Well, no. But if you went on thinking that about everything, you might not even be a Knight, because what if Wynn's intentions were less than honorable? He's powerful enough that he could be doing things for any sort of reason and we would have no idea. But you trust him. And I bet you that he earned it. Just as I had to learn to trust you when we first met.

[Myri had been wary, not certain if her squiring to Kat would work out at all. They were so different, really. But they had found something between them, and it was a bond worth sticking out a few rough patches for. Myri just doesn't want Kat to miss out on another bond that she might otherwise overlook because of her own hesitations.]

[shootfirst]

[ she shifts uncomfortably in place a little bit, not responding at first. ]

... He texted me. A couple weeks ago. Out of the blue.

[witchwoman]

Oh? Did he want anything? [Or just to talk. Because he likes you. She's just going to gently guide Kat towards hopefully realizing that on her own. Maybe.]

[shootfirst]

I dunno.

I didn't answer.

[witchwoman]

Kat! [She half laughs, because... well, she should have expected that.] You're still friends at least, aren't you?

[shootfirst]

Friend is a strong and highly inappropriate word for it.

[witchwoman]

Well, he obviously still thinks of you as something to have texted you out of the blue like that. Can't very well have expected anything inappropriate with all this distance between you, after all.

[shootfirst]

Maybe.


[ a beat ] I just don't get why he'd be holding onto it after so long when I've just been a bitch about it. He hasn't seen me in like a year.

[witchwoman]

You're hardly easy to forget. [teeny tiny smile bc she speaks the truth okay.] But maybe the best way to find out would be to talk to him?

[shootfirst]

That sounds like a problem for Future Kat.

[witchwoman]

Perhaps. Or you could give me your phone and we could find out together? [Diplomacy 19? She just wants to help youuuu.]
