Months have passed, and the strange and unusual trial of Rafael Giovanni has finally drawn to a close.  Today is the day everyone's waited for, either in dread or anticipation: the day on which a verdict will finally be announced, for better or worse.

Following Des' desperate gambit to blame Eterna Jade for the assassinations Rafael once committed as the Black Scourge to lend justification to his insanity plea, Rafael and Buffy broke the sigil that had been granted to them by the mysterious group of men who all call themselves "Mr. Gray" - who had promised to turn the trial favorable for Rafael in exchange for some unnamed future favor.  Immediately following their decision to accept their aid, however, they were informed by Des that these men were part of a group that endeavored to bring suffering to humanity.  The conflict over events led to a physical altercation among the team - and this rift only widened cracks elsewhere.  Even Myri and Finnick's seemingly rock solid relationship fell apart, and she finally made the painful decision to take leave of the team and return to Chicago only days before the trial's conclusion.   

Now, what remains of the team gathers once more in the courthouse to learn the fate of their friend, after which they will finally be recalled to the castle to continue their search for the Talisman that led them to meet Rafael in the first place.

[ rafael's head comes up at isabella's words, and his eyes seem to involuntarily scan the crowd of them to rest on buffy for the briefest second, before he looks back to burt, and then frowns, nodding. ] ... Si, that is... a good point, Bella.

[slay]

... What? No. No contract. [ she looks hastily between rafael and burt. ] We need you.

That's the deal, babe. You all snatched Golden Boy out from under me, but she [ he jerks a thumb at francesca ] negotiated a solid compromise. Giovanni can't break contract.

Even if I were willing to bend that - which I'm not, for the record - he's got court mandated therapy here. Them's the breaks.

[nm finnick found his words.] It's Chicago, not prison. [most apt time for that sentence tbh.] What did you expect to happen after the trial, anyway? He'd come back to England with us?

Buffy, it is ... alright. [ he doesn't sound 100% convinced of that but... ] We can... speak of this more in private. [ instead of in front of the whole world, b/c those cameras are still recording them from across the street ]

[ that shuts her up quickly. she glowers at finnick for a moment like somehow this is his fault because he should be thrown on the pyre instead of rafael. but she keeps it to herself because of rafael's warning. she finally breaks away, looking down the street. ]

I'll meet you guys back at the hotel. I'm gonna walk; I need the air.

[ she doesn't wait for a reply before setting off. she'll ... probably still be hours behind. ]

So... that was awkward. [said after Buffy is hopefully out of earshot.]

Now, there was some mention of liver damage? [He's already drinking some Glengoolie Blue from his glove compartment, but that doesn't preclude hitting a bar or two or several up.]

[Des drops his keys in Vi's hands as he watches Buffy leave.] Knock yourself out.

[And off he goes after her, semi-blindly.]

Okay. Get in people. [ idk why des thinks it's a good idea to trust vi behind the wheel but it's probably because he hates his car. looks like you get shot gun, finnick. ]

Shotgun. [yeah he's calling it solely because vi is driving and they're besties. usually he'd let myri have it or sit in the back w her so the person driving could feel like a chauffeur. nice new things about being single??]

[ francesca finally speaks up, now that all that potential drama about rafael's contract has blown over ] I'll head straight back to England, then. While a club opening certainly sounds exciting, I have other business to attend to there.

[ which is just some made up excuse, mostly to keep jaka guessing (bluff 54) ]

[ rafael watches buffy go... and so does isabella, with what is most definitely a smug, self-satisfied look on her face. ] Come, Rafael. [ she reaches to tug gently at his arm, but he barely seems to notice, so she tugs a bit more insistently. ] And smile. You are a free man, now.

Life of the party, that guy. [Archer sneers at Des, and fires his car up and flicks a switch, opening the passenger door remotely for Elena. Because: spycar.]
