It's over. After months of being sidelined by the trial of their friend Rafael, the Knights are finally free to return to England and see what headway the Dragon's Claws have made on discovering the location of the Talisman they seek.

But not everyone is so free to return. The consequence of getting Burt's assistance in disentangling Finnick from his contract and super-stardom was an ironclad agreement that allows Burt to sink his claws fully into Rafael's career. Considering that Burt knows their secret identity, non-disclosure agreement or not, the executive's renowned moral gray-itude doesn't exactly make it seem like a great plan to back out on the compromise.

They've at least been able to put off their goodbyes for a few days since the end of the trial, as Burt invited all of them to New York City for the opening of his brand new nightclub. Some of them flew out, while Archer and Des presumably drove their matching El Caminos cross-country in the days between. But now they've all met again in the Big Apple, for a celebration - and farewell of sorts.

I'm afraid none of my studies were ever quite so racy. I was double majoring in physics and arcane lore, but I wasn't there long enough to get to any of the more advanced texts for translation.

[Des's fort save is also a twenty. Awww twinsies.] So what were you doing in the Chicago library? Reading fiction?

[He says it like it's a dirty word as he does his next shot. There is no telling how many he has done at this point.]

Yawn. [ buffy throws back a shot and makes a horrible face. ] Are we done talking about books yet? I wanna dance!

[Her drinking face is super endearing. Spike gives her a slight grin and takes his own shot.]

If you dance half as well as you fight, this'll be fun.

a spot check of 16+ might notice that on the balcony above, a lone figure is leaning against the railing casually, watching their antics with an amused air. he pushes off it and makes his way with a purposeful measured stride down the spiraled metal steps, coming their way, drawing more than a few glances en route from those he passes. probably because he's brad pitt. seems to go with the territory. ]

[ gar, in the meantime, seems still very caught up on talking about books, perhaps because she wants to avoid that dancing suggestion entirely, so she'll just answer des' question. ] Yes, actually. I was catching up on my Milton. [ she smiles to herself fondly as she swishes her glass and quotes: ] "“This horror will grow mild, this darkness light.”

[Des is half-listening to Gar talking when he double-takes on Brad Pitt. (spot 18) And anyone looking his way can see that looks utterly elated at the sight of the other man.]

Lor', you jackass. I didn't think you were gonna show.

[It's a fort save 20 party yay!]

[Other than a friend of his, obviously.]

[ he saunters up to them, leaning on the bar with an elbow next to des as he fixes him with a grin. ] Apparently not, since you didn't seem to think it worth mentioning to your buddies. And who's the jackass?

[ he turns his easy smile towards elena. ] Since he's shit at introductions, I guess I'm on my own. Zarad Lorel.

[ buffy is not impressed by your good looks sir. probably. maybe. rather than addressing him, she turns to des and asks in a quieter voice that gets drowned out by the music. ] Your informant about the Grays?

[That's only because you're in loooooove, Buffy.]

Well, welcome to the party. I'm Elena.

[She'll let the rest of you guys introduce yourselves, yep.]

[Des snorts at Buffy's question.] Please. Guys that look like him [he jerks a thumb at zarad] were shoving my informant in lockers in high school. Lor's a poker buddy from the old days. We met up the other night and I invited him. He fits in with this crowd. [He gives zarad a sardonic smirk around the lip of his next shot.] And if you ask them, I don't tell 'em anything. I think you're the most welcome surprise they've gotten from me in awhile.

[he has hot friends. aren't you all jealous.]

I forgot Des mentioned he lived close to here. When you say the old days... [ raised eyebrow at des. THAT COULD MEAN A LOT OF THINGS FROM YOU, BRO. ]

Well, when Manhattan was still part of Greenland, we had some times.

[He rolls his eyes.] I dunno. You expect me to remember? A couple decades at least.

Decades. So you're ... [ she points at brad pitt finally. ] ... Not human. [ that was polite. ]

Gold star for the lady. [ he helps himself to one of des' shots. ] Whose name I didn't catch.

Buffy. [ it's short and to the point, since he's obviously not expounding on what kind of not-human he is. ]

[And Des will just introduce the rest of the posse.] Rafael. Gar. Spike. The one who can't hold her shots is Kat. Now everyone knows each other.

[and can maybe be less racist, buffy. wow. you can't just ask people what species they are.] I'd apologize for Blondie, but I know what gets you ruffled and that don't touch it, but I swear she's harmless until she punches you.

[Elena will be knocking back another one of those shots now, yep.]

Plus, there's a handful of other not-humans here already.

[Like her. And Spike. And Buffy's not!boyfriend. JS. Though she's actually more teasing than angry or anything. She's here to party, not get offended.]

[ he dismisses the comments with a wave of his hand, tone good-natured ] She didn't mean anything by it. I can tell.

But I swear I heard someone say something about dancing from all the way up there. [ he smirks at elena, pointedly avoiding looking at the person who actually said it. ] Or maybe my hearing's just going with age. [ and he punctuates that with a wink, as he tosses back a drink. ]

[Des downs another shot, cheeks puffed out like an annoyed chipmunk, and then swallows.] I'll pass. Clubs have been dead to me since disco died.

[Let's acknowledge that Des accepted disco into his heart at one time. Let's just... acknowledge that.] Knock yourself out. I'll just knock back the shots.

[ well. better they think she's racist than that she was stupidly about to blurt out des' immortality in a crowded bar, ok. also des she knows that clubs have only been dead to you since jade died, actually. ] Or we could let Buffy explain for herself instead of apologizing on her behalf like she's not here. [ she's mostly grumbling it to herself. ] Well. Good meeting you. [ she turns away from zarad to look at rafael, moving towards spike. ] You gonna be okay? [ since he'd brought up dancing, better she got back to it. ]

[She'll take one more shot for the road, but she's grinning widely.]

You heard right. I take it you're up for it?

he slams another shot glass down, grin turning all sorts of mischievous as he slides away from the bar, and nods towards the dance floor with his head. ]

Oh, I'm up for anything. [ as he gets up, his shirt collar falls open a little more and elena and buffy both notice - elena sort of in passing and buffy with hawk-like disturbing attention - that he's wearing a necklace that looks familiar. in fact, their checks are high enough that they'd realize where they recognize it from: des has been known to wear the exact same necklace in the years they've know him.

actually, especially with buffy's 35, it'd also be possible to realize that it's... exactly the same necklace. which is reinforced by the fact that she can see that des is clearly not wearing it anymore. ]

[ rafael utterly failed that spot check because he gives negative fucks, but oh buffy is talking to him. he gives her a little smile, raising his drink. ] Is there a reason I should not be?
