What was supposed to be a night to unwind wound up with a confrontation between Failboat and Keijen Blade that didn't exactly go the way the team was hoping for. However, in the process, they at least managed to get Isabella back and extract Dumage from her long term undercover assignment.

The remainder of the night is spent back at the hotel, recuperating, in order to catch the flight back to London the next morning. This also means saying goodbye to those who will be going back to Chicago: Isabella, Burt, and Rafael.

[ well, on one such occasion of flickering, she'd see him actually... standing in his doorway. he looks momentarily surprised, but then smiles very slightly, moving towards the couch to speak in a low enough tone that he won't risk waking the others. ] I thought you might be awake.

[slay]

Was it the chronic insomnia that tipped you off, or the likely anxiety-inducing tomorrow? [ she gives him a tight-lipped but affectionate smile, making room on the couch for him and offering up half of the throw blanket she's snuggled up with. buffy isn't sleep girl most night - slayer dreams, and all - but it's worse tonight with the stress of the impending goodbyes. ]

[romanticidal]

[ he comes and slowly takes a seat beside her, regarding the blanket with a small smile before taking the proffered half. ] ... Perhaps it was more wishful thinking, no?

[slay]

Wishful for what?

[ she scoots closer to him to share the blanket, pulling her knees up to her chest and leaning into his shoulder. and on whose end, of course - but she figures the former will answer the latter. ]

[romanticidal]

[ he looks down at her next to him, and his expression warms. ] That I might steal a bit more time with you, before you go.

[slay]

Not really the kind of thing you need to steal.

[ she slips an arm around his elbow and settles in. ]

All yours.

[ the subject of that sentence doesn't really matter - her, her time, the night. it'd all be true, anyway. ]

[romanticidal]

[ that draws a smile from him, though he looks down, avoiding her gaze. ] It seems less than real, does it not? To think that tomorrow you will be almost on the other side of the world.

[slay]

Hasn't really sunk in yet, no. Actually I'm kinda ... actively trying not to let it sink in. [ she chuckles, tipping her head away from him in acknowledgment. ] Sounds like you've been doing the more productive kind of thinking.

[romanticidal]

I do not know that I would go that far.

I am... how do you say? Steeling myself?

[slay]

Would calling you when I land in London be hurting or helping?

[ she asks it casually, but her stomach is doing somersaults at his admission. it all feels so warm and cozy and familiar, not at all the kind of thing she wants to lose when she's only just gotten it. rafael may be steeling himself, but buffy would rather make the most of what time they have. ]

[romanticidal]

[ there's a beat of hesitation at the question ] Perhaps it will make it feel more real. And I would like to know that you make it there in one piece.

[slay]

Well, barring hijacking by giant spider, I'm thinking our odds look pretty good. [ a grin flickers onto her face as she looks up at him, nose crinkling. but she understands his concern, so she softens after a moment and nods. ] I'll call.

[romanticidal]

Will it be very strange for you? Seeing the castle again and all those you know there?

[slay]

Truthfully? I don't know all that many people there. At least, I don't feel like I do. [ she shrugs a shoulder, brow furrowing. ] I'd barely gotten there when we were sent out to find the talisman. [ she arches an eyebrow, thoughtful. ] I'll get to check in with my squire. That's new.

[romanticidal]

You have a squire? [ he casts her an amused glance, obviously entertained by the word. ]

[slay]

What? [ there's the grin again. she elbows him lightly. ] Oh, come on, like I can't mentor. [ and gut defensive reaction. ] For your information, I am totally wise beyond my years and - and a beacon of knightly guidance.

[romanticidal]

Does your squire shoe your horse and fetch your sword, then?

[slay]

Be a long way to bring a sword. [ she sits up straighter to look ~dignified~ ] But if I wanted her to - yes. Yes, she would.

[romanticidal]

Well, there you have one good thing in going back. She will have less far to travel to do as you tell her.

[slay]

Unless I tell her to kidnap someone I miss.

[ in case you thought we were past that part of the conversation: we aren't. she makes it sound jokey, but there's a softness in her gaze that tells how genuine she is about missing him. :'( ]

Do I need to worry about kidnappers now, lurking around the corners, instead of just Iscariot agents? [ he sneaks a teasing glance at her, because THEY CAN JOKE ABOUT ISCARIOT NOW RIGHT. THE NIGHTMARE IS OVER??? ]

Objectively speaking, Jaina's probably scarier.

I imagine she would be, if she learned from you.

From you, I'm calling that a compliment. Which, hey, get 'em in while you can. [ she certainly won't complain, even though her nose does crinkle a bit at the notion of being ~scary ok. ]

I meant it as one. [ and he grins, as if to reinforce that in his book, scary is something to appreciate. ]
