What was supposed to be a night to unwind wound up with a confrontation between Failboat and Keijen Blade that didn't exactly go the way the team was hoping for. However, in the process, they at least managed to get Isabella back and extract Dumage from her long term undercover assignment.

The remainder of the night is spent back at the hotel, recuperating, in order to catch the flight back to London the next morning. This also means saying goodbye to those who will be going back to Chicago: Isabella, Burt, and Rafael.

Guess we'll see which one of us lasts longer, in the end. [ she shrugs. what else is she supposed to say? the chances that both of them leave this mission alive are getting slimmer and slimmer - seeing keijen fight, the goddess, the spider-war prophecy. ]

[He leans back in his seat, reflexively clenching and unclenching his hand.] I don't think I could bear it, and Rafael would kill me.

On the other hand, that might be what finally gets Spike to cooperate with him on something. [ because they both would, tbh. and buffy knows it. ]

Yeah, well... [He shrugs, staring at the ceiling.] I'd hold still for it.

Don't be so dramatic. [ she rolls her eyes. ] Des, everybody dies. Even you will. And if I do, it's not gonna be some fault of yours.

No, it'll be because you were an idiot with a hero complex. [He smiles.] And some big destiny. If you're not careful, Jade's mom might stick you with a curse like mine.

Yeah, I'm still calling wrong number on that one. I'm so not destiny-girl. Maybe she meant to find another Buffy.

Yeah, 'cause there's fifty girls named Buffy who can punch holes in monsters just lining up. It wouldn't be any fun for these people if you were agreeable to it.

It's a big world, Des. More people slipping through all the time. [ don't rain on her parade. ]

[Eyeroll.] I'm just saying from experience- when someone wants you that badly for something, they don't usually let up. But I've managed denial about it for a lot longer than you, so... who knows? Maybe she'll get sick of you.

Nah. I'm not - I mean, it's not the worst that could happen. Beats the pants off what Hellsing had to say on the subject, anyway. [ she hunches her shoulders. ] All the time I spent wondering who I was or why I could do this stuff, I never really thought destiny was the answer.

There are definitely worse answers. [He leans back in his seat and studies the ceiling.] And probably better ones, too, but at least you got them.
