There isn't much warning at all that this briefing is about to occur. In fact, they're told to come 'immediately' rather than given a time. Instead of being directed to come to the Round Table, however, they are instructed to meet at the downtown London Headquarters. For those who haven't yet been there, the main lobby area boasts an impressive silver dragon statue, about seven feet tall, immediately to the right of the entrance. The room is done in comforting wood and mahogany tones, and there's an array of tables and chairs across the room to the right, as well as a small piano. Statues of King Arthur and Lancelot flank the hallway that continues straight beyond the lobby, and there's a staircase leading up, with wooden dragon-shaped banisters, immediately beyond the bathroom door to the right.

On the left are two doors, and one of them leads into a room which also has a small reception window open, where they are received Between the doors hangs an ornate blue and silver tapestry with even more dragon imagery. It is an exercise in subtlety all around.

The woman working reception directs them each to head up the steps to the third floor, head to the end of the hall and take a right to the holo-room.

Yeah, that's right. They have a holo-room.

Walking in, it's possible to find Wynn staring into the round holographic table, which casts an eerie light on his very very grim features. He leans forward, with Tia and Eric casting looks at each other behind his back, obviously just as worried about... whatever this is.

[ francesca's been particularly quiet through all this, her mind turning to process their assignment and all the information given thus far. she nods when wynn addresses her specific responsibilities, and takes another look at the face of the man they'll probably have to kill. ]

Any idea exactly how many men we'll be facing inside the complex?

[wynn]

Unfortunately not. I can, however, provide blueprints--

[ the knight from the desk below bursts into the meeting room. "It's everywhere," she says, and wynn seems to know immediately what she's talking about, frowning deeply as he presses a button.

the screen changes to a local TV station, the image that of the commando from the video just played in this room. commentary from a somber newscaster follows the end of the message.

"This tape was delivered to our studies mere moments ago. Allegedly, it is a duplocate of one sent to a local investigative agency. Professor Grant Peterson resides in the penthouse of the Howard Arms apartment building. We take you now to the News 5 helicopter, which is circling the structure. Local police are on the scene assessing the situation."

wynn flicks through, and finds every local channel carrying a similar report, his expression darkening more with each one. ] St. Andrew wants this as public as possible.

[bittersweeter]

Public and full of police. [ she rubs her eyes again, suddenly glad she didn't last that long at andie's party. this is so far out of her element. granted she's been sneaking in and out of penthouses as far back as she can remember, but she's a kid, her memory isn't that long. ]

[wynn]

Sir O'Keefe's husband acts as Police Chief here in London, and he's well aware of our existence, as a result. I can speak with him to get us authority to take charge of the situation when we arrive, and see if he can spare officers to keep the reporters and innocents at bay. Other than that, I'd prefer the police stay out of this.

[ francesca looks just as unsettled and angry by the live coverage as wynn is, and she makes no effort to hide her disgust ] It'll be easier if they're not involved. This attack feels almost personal, more so than just it being one of our own among the hostages.

[wynn]

I had much the same reaction, myself. [ he flicks off the screen and this time pulls up a set of 3D fancy blueprints ]

Although the Howard Arms has three elevators, only the central one goes up to the penthouse. It opens onto a building-wide hallway directly across from the main entrance to the Peterson residence. At either end of the hallway, a staircase leads down to the ground floor. Each stairwell also features a door - locked, most likely - that safeguards stairs leading up to the roof.

Across from each stairwell is another locked door. The eastern one leads to Grant Peterson's home office. Our records show a reception area, two small offices, two meeting rooms - one with no windows, and one with a view of the skyline - and Grant's large office, which provides access to the balcony.

The western door is another entrance into Peterson's residence.

What about the roof access? Or a service elevator or dum waiter. Or... a grappling hook.

[wynn]

Nothing beyond what's visible, in terms of a service elevator. If you could get to the roof without them being aware - which will be difficult, given the media coverage - you'd be able to enter from either of the stairwells.

I don't suppose you have any media contacts we could use to our advantage? Herd them elsewhere to slip in unnoticed?

A hostage situation, broadcast on every major network, is something that I'm afraid has already passed out of the purview of whatever contacts I might be able to bring to our aid.

No, we'll have to expect them to at least be surrounding and monitoring the building.

[bittersweeter]

[ almost to herself: ] We could always distract them. [ idk if y'all can tell, but she's pm promoting a nearby explosion. if you can't tell she makes a small pantomime of an explosion with her gloved fingers.

sorry this is your squire, eric. ]

That might seem a little too obvious. [ she says off-handedly, leaning in closer to examine the blueprints ] We'll just have to stay under their radar.

[ she looks up in tia's direction ] Will you be joining me, then?

I thought the idea was a small strike squad. [ she looks around at their numbers, which... are sure small. ] I assume we're all going in, unless... [ she looks to helen and val'drin, obviously unsure if the resident hoard member and artifact specialist intend to go in or monitor and advise from outside. ]

Wynn asked me in to advise. [ he casts a sideways glance at francesca, that's a bit unreadable except to her probably - he's obviously asking her unspoken question. DO YOU HAVE THE THING so he doesn't have to worry about you ] Someone needs to be ready on back-up, after all.

Either option is fine by me, honestly. I'm more than comfortable in the field, but if Val'drin would prefer the company...

If you feel up to a firefight, I can go it alone. But keep in mind, it might come down to one.

Well, I'm certain we'll all do our part to make sure it doesn't come to that. But it may be easier to get in and out with a smaller team.

...so when do we leave?

As soon as you tell me how you'd like to enter the building.

They did say they wanted a helicopter as part of their demands. Perhaps we can use that to our advantage for the roof access you mentioned.

Or if not above- perhaps below?

The helicopter's actually a great idea. If we land it on the roof, we can rappel down before it lands, onto the balcony.

I agree. I think it's our best bet for avoiding too much extra attention from the captors, as well as the news crews outside the building.
