[The Knights have been tasked by Sir Hasmed to investigate accounts of a strange village in Germany where magic is rumored not to function whatsoever.  The town of Heimbach is located in the hills, close to a river, and is watched over by a castle on a rocky outcrop in the center of the town.  The village is peaceful and quiet, the weather serene, and nothing sinister whatsoever about the idyllic view as they pull up their car on the main street, in front of several small shops.]

[ it's obvious that this isn't the most upscale place because EVERYTHING IN EUROPE IS OLD AS GOLD'S BALLS, especially in weird ass mountain villages. there is one criminally young blonde secretary at a wooden desk reading a magazine and eating a block of cheese. #racism...?

[Well, Gold's wisdom check was shit, but his navigate check is awesome (20 total) as he takes the lead to hunt down wherever they keep their records in this place.]

[ nbd following after gold—he's walking with purpose, so she has to guess he has a pretty good idea of where a records room oughtta be. ]

[ the records room is unlocked because this is a small fucking town where everyone trusts everyone. what do you want. it's also really dinky and not terribly well organized, and also all in german. numerous filing cabinets are in here, all unlocked as well. one light bulb swings above. ]

[ emma starts thumbing through files and charters immediately, searching out anything that looks vaguely related to magic and this town's history with it. her research check of 20 helps, and so does her wisdom check of 17 to figure out that 'Magie' is close enough to magic that you can recognize that shit without knowing German ok. intuitive leaps = a+ ]

[ there's actually very little of note???? there are a few very recent articles clipped out, but everything is dated from the last month or so. before that, it's like no fucks were given about anything magic related here. ]

[While Emma works on that, Gold just searches the office for anything that might have gotten lost in the shuffle (search 16). Just to be sure they don't miss anything.]

[Faye is thumbing through files, not really looking for any particular subject. Also everything is in German. So she's mostly looking for words that might look close enough to English that could be useful??? She's just running on dumb luck right now (search 21).]

[ she does find something that is half in english! as in it's an order sent in by a company called luckman industries asking for permission to do some kind of excavating. all the responses to it are in german but it looks like it was stamped 'approved'. all the dates are from early this year. ]

Hey. [Faye whisper shouts to get their attention. Also her phone is making a noise. She checks that and looks further concerned/annoyed.]

Couple of things. One, Astrid says if we try to use magic we could end up in the hospital, so that's peachy. Two, I found this. [She holds the paper out for them.] Seems weird that a town like this would use outside work, doesn't it? Small town life is all about keeping it in the family.

[ emma takes it and skims over it, holding it out so gold can do the same beside her. ]

Excavating ... [ her gaze lifts to faye. ] You think maybe they unearthed something?

It's highly possible. We might get more information at the site, itself.

Great. Let's rally the troops. [Faye gets her phone back out and texts Astrid: We may have found something. Where are you? ]

[ she texts back promptly: the local bar. i think we found all we're going to find here. she also includes directions to the bar in case they all get lost ... going down the street. ]

They're at the bar. If this place wasn't such a shithole, I'd ask if we could stop for a drink first.

[ emma shrugs. look they might not be here to fuck around but bars are great for getting people to talk. she folds up the paperwork on the excavation. they're taking it with. ] Astrid might be able to make more of the rest of this. Let's go. [ out of the building !! ]

[Faye actually remembers to be polite and shoots Astrid back a quick on our way as they head back out of the town hall. Quicker they get moving, the quicker they can be done here.]
