[The Knights have been tasked by Sir Hasmed to investigate accounts of a strange village in Germany where magic is rumored not to function whatsoever.  The town of Heimbach is located in the hills, close to a river, and is watched over by a castle on a rocky outcrop in the center of the town.  The village is peaceful and quiet, the weather serene, and nothing sinister whatsoever about the idyllic view as they pull up their car on the main street, in front of several small shops.]

[astrid doesn't really run ahead, but she does move her ass to the front of the group and start waving her arms out in front of her like that will activate a sensor or two sooner. yep. this is what y'all brought with you.]

[Oh my fuzzy god. Children. While Astrid hits the lights, Gold glances around the dimly lit area to see if he can see anything of note around them. (spot 18)]

[ yeah bitch better hope there are no land mines. emma is staying a healthy distance back and taking her time because astrid is a grown-ass woman ok she can make her own mistakes. her spot check is like 11 tho so she ain't gonna see shit. ]

[ Mars wasn't too far behind the girls, curiosity man. It's a bitch. Taking out his iphone he pulled up an app (Theodolite; its compass, GPS, map, and two-axis inclinometer.) and held it up. Boy's attached to his phone. (spot; 9) ]

[ those with spot 15+ can notice tracks that indicate that this road has been well worn semi-recently. astrid notices a worn sign on the wall that says "LUCKMAN INDUSTRIES". she's also the first to notice that down below the quarry road bottoms out... at a large concrete wall, that features a pair of insanely expensive looking high grade blast doors, which stand open. beyond them is... an incredibly high tech looking military bunker?? of some kind. the halls inside branch out in all directions, stairs lead up to an observation deck, and there is no one in sight. ]

Gold's going in. Carefully, anyway. Since there's no one around. What was that about not interfering. WHOOPS.]

This certainly looks like a bit extravagant for a mining operation.

Um, duh. It's still sketchville, though. [regardless, part of her is happy there's an indoor facility-type thing ok. IT'S NOT A SEWER.]

[ At the others speaking he looked up, then twisted the phone a bit to snap a picture with the flash off, even if it was blurry or dark it was better not to have the flash. Slipping his phone away he stepped up beside Astrid.]

Something tells me we are in over our heads.

Oh, not much- just a secret underground hideout? [Strolling right on in and taking a look around. She nudges Astrid.] Is this some weird German thing?

[ all down the hallways to the left and right more lights are powering on. which seems to indicate it was either empty before they arrived or whoever is here is pretty far out of range atm. ]

This should make reconnaissance easy enough.

[He starts looking around for anything that might indicate what this is really about. (search 17)]

[she scrunches her nose at faye's teasing.] No! I mean, I guess not? [she is ... also searching now. (search 17)]

[ astrid and gold head down the hall underneath the walkway there, because they hear some kind of strange whirring and sparking noise. glancing in through a doorway, they find a very long room, about half the length of a football field, at the end of which a gigantic machine is encased behind glass, squat, cylindrical and sending showers of blue energy sparking out against the walls of its container. it glows bright, and in the center of it, a huge rod seems to be placed. ]

Ms. Swan? Faye? [OTHER PERSON WHOSE NAME HE DOESN'T REMEMBER. I'm so sorry, Mars.] I think you might want to have a look at this.

[He turns to Astrid, tearing his eyes away from the pretty blue light.] What do you make of that?

[she ... doesn't tear her eyes away, and just keeps staring at it like w h a t.] Is that what magic looks like? Are they harnessing magic down here? [disclaimer: astrid doesn't know shit about magic.]

It's some kind of magic. [(knowledge (spellcraft) 25] I'm not sure what, exactly.

Uh-- [Faye finds Gold and Astrid and her eyes go a little wide. Once the initial shock of HOLY SHIT wears off, she glances around] Okay, but they built this, right? There's probably some sort of controls for it... right?

You don't think ...

[ emma stops in front of the machine, a healthy 50 yards away still, looking back at gold and raising her voice. ]

Maybe the magic in this town isn't being suppressed—maybe it's being absorbed, by this thing.

[HUFF.] That's what I just said! [she sounded (unsure) about it when it was just her and gold standing there, but now she is AN ABSOLUTE AUTHORITY.]

[ as far as faye can see? there's no controls directly attached to the thing. there is a panel near the door, on the inside of the room? it's just a couple big white buttons, unlabeled. ]

[Faye has made way too many responsible choices so far on this mission. Plus if Emma is right and this thing is absorbing magic? She would like to turn it off. So she's gonna head over for those buttons. Don't mind her. Just being brash like she do.]

[ faye hits the button and... the doors behind them slide closed. the space-age doors that don't have any latches or handles on them.
