It's been over a hundred years since mankind first came to a global realization that magic and monsters were real and walked among us. Yet in all that time, much about the process of how or why remains a mystery, and a subject of great speculation among scholars the world over.

This is why London hosts an annual convention to discuss these complicated matters, both from a scientific and social perspective. There's something for everyone with even a passing interest in understanding the Veil, magic, or the various races that share this world. Sir Jeanne Gar, a young member of the Dragon's Hoard, has been asked to present some of her research at said convention, and has invited many of the Knights to come fill the seats, and explore the other lectures.

The hall is large and brimming with scholars both young and ancient, as well as those of a variety of unusual Shadowkind species.  It makes for great people watching from the food court, at least.

however, the change in climate of the crowd around them does have her greatly worried. some of us here are quite obviously shadowkind, ok ]

An illustration of precisely what I'm talking about. Their flaws are, tragically, in their very nature, or in the now instinctive programming of their cultures, which they bring to our shores. Many don't remember why they are the way they are, only that they must behave this way. A particularly dangerous, and unusual state brought on by the amnesia they experience en route to our world.

While it's easy to dismiss out of hand the notion of controlling what appear to be people who walk and talk like we do, it's important to remember the distinction between what is human, and what is not. Before these species became known to us, that line was easy to discern, and we had no qualms about utilizing other species that inhabit our planet for the purposes for which God designed them. The ox was made to plow, other animals to provide food - it is not a great leap to imagine that God has granted a purpose to these creatures as well. One that will be fulfilled in service to the species created in the one God's image - our human Lord.

[ francesca does not take kindly to being likened to an ox, but she knows better than to encourage Kat to shoot anyone. she's just glaring ahead instead. ]

He wants to punch the man in the face as much as Kat wants to shoot him.] As much as I'd like you to do that, unless you want tomorrow's headline to be "Rising threat: Shadowkind kills Evangelist at shadowkind convention.", I don't think that would be wise.

The last thing his cause needs is a martyr.

[ her inclination to stay lasted as long as the thoughts of violence didn't. sorry, will, she tried, but her will save was a measly six so anxiety attack is a go and she's just going to, you know, jerk out of her seat and head back into the hall. don't be mad, fake dad. she just needs air. ]

[lemon tries to go after her like WAIT FOR MEEEE, but will keeps his grip on lemon's harness so he has to stay and ... endure more of this bs with all the humans. which will is clearly looking thrilled about. he watches abigail go with a frown, but doesn't get up to follow.]

It sounds harsh, but I think that all of us will agree: this, and only this, is the road to averting bloodshed.

To establishing a real - and lasting - peace.

[ near the door, the mind master's smile widens a bit as she meets the eyes of those in the front row. draken's announcement is met with a few tentative claps, but mostly the room is filled with a disquieting sense of foreboding.

draken smiles tightly and nods, placing one hand on the bible, raising his chin as he looks out over the assembled, looking very self-satisfied.
