It's been over a hundred years since mankind first came to a global realization that magic and monsters were real and walked among us. Yet in all that time, much about the process of how or why remains a mystery, and a subject of great speculation among scholars the world over.

This is why London hosts an annual convention to discuss these complicated matters, both from a scientific and social perspective. There's something for everyone with even a passing interest in understanding the Veil, magic, or the various races that share this world. Sir Jeanne Gar, a young member of the Dragon's Hoard, has been asked to present some of her research at said convention, and has invited many of the Knights to come fill the seats, and explore the other lectures.

The hall is large and brimming with scholars both young and ancient, as well as those of a variety of unusual Shadowkind species.  It makes for great people watching from the food court, at least.

[He nods.] Yeah, but if they really pay us that big, maybe I'll donate a few hundreds or something. [Max suddenly stare at him, examining his features.] Hey, what's your name, pal? Half-elf, right?

[ he nods ] Aurelius Greyfire. And you are?

Maxwell Briggard. Max for short. Lemme ask you something, do the all the guys in the castle treat you like shit or are they only racists to half-orcs?

Someone's discriminating against you for being part orc?

[beatemup]

Uhuh. Those stupid humans are. [No, Max. They don't hate you because you're only half human. They hate you because you're annoying.] The vampire hunter, the druid and that one hell of scary-ass grandma. [You can still see the shock in his face when he mention her.] Alaric, Harrison and... I don't know her name, so I'm just gonna call her the Queen Hell-bear.

I was just being friendly, trying to ice break the boring ambiance, but they immediately shut me as if I was a fool. But when that Hell-bear talked, they all stood guard, protecting her hellish ass like she was the queen of the world. Then she glared at me like she was going to eat me alive. Scariest thing I've ever seen. [And this is not a lie. At least, from his point of view that's what happened.]

A few hours ago, at the Shadow Gate seminar. I had to leave in the middle of Jeanne's lecture, because of it. [See, he knows the topic and the lecturer's name, that's because he was paying attention.(wis 13) Not that he wanted to stay or anything.]

Well, that's... that's terrible! And these were Knights?

Uhuh. One of them was my mentor and I first met the other one at the Hoard's lab. I'd never seen Hellbear before though. [Well, he might have seen her before but he definitely doesn't remember her.]

Maybe you should tell Wynn.

Nah, I'm not a kindergartener, I can take care of myself. Besides, the boss seems like he has more important problems to be taken care of.

Well, I suppose you're right about that. But if they continue to bully you, you shouldn't have to deal with it alone.

[beatemup]

No worries, I got you on my side, right, pal? [He cheerfully wraps one of his hand around his shoulder, effectively cuddling him.]

Um-- [ hahaha he looks a little uncomfortable but sucks it up ] Y-yes, of course.

[He laughs a bit at his reaction, before letting him go.] Great! Now let see what the speaker would say about our condition. The lecture's about this kind of stuff, right?
