Why Wynn ever thinks there will be such a thing as a 'simple recon mission' we just don't know.  

Several Knights were dispatched to a small isolated town in Germany where magic was rumored to not function, only to discover that the situation was a bit more complicated.  Yes, magic didn't function when attempted - sometimes.  But other times it had bizarre and dangerous side effects, including driving townspeople insane.  

Research led the team to a company called Luckman Industries who had bought digging rights to make a large quarry beneath the town, but further investigation revealed that they had actually constructed a massive underground laboratory instead.  Some sort of strange device stood at the center of it, magical in nature, but when they attempted to leave, they found the doors locked, and were forced into trying magic despite the potential side effects.

The spell seems to have attracted the attention of something within the building itself - a disembodied voice that's offered them a (mostly) pleasant greeting - to the Luckman Industries computer-aided enrichment center.

There will be cake.

[ the panel that wheatley is attached to starts to glide up to the top of the machine as the little robot studies the inside ] Can't! Power supply is entirely self-contained! It's... it's really amazing is what it is, come to think of it. You know, I really think... I think it might be kind of a shame really, turning this thing off. Wouldn't it? I mean, think of the possibilities. I can feel it, you know, pulsing away in there. Do you know what that is? Randomness! Pure, utter randomness! It's... it's... [ he starts chuckling about it, but the chuckle starts sounding... a little crazy about half way through ] POWERFUL, that's what it is. All sense and logic, all those things she loves so much? Useless! Who needs 'em, really? Why, with this pumping through my nodes, I could be--

No, no 'could be' about it, is there? I AM.

he swivels around, poised at the top of the machine, where he locks into place, glowering down at them with a sinister half-lidded 'eye', as the rest of the lights on what is now effectively his body glow red. ] Your new. GOD. OF CHAOS!

[ Mars pales a little and looks to Gold.] 10 Percent...

Faye, you may set him on fire now.

[And Gold will even try for the first shot. BURNING ARC... for 24 damage if it works.]

what if astrid shot at dumb ol' wheatley??? IT COULDN'T FUCKING HURT. except for him. (ranged atk 21; 6 dmg if it hits.)]

[Following Gold's lead, Faye shifts to cast Flaming Sphere to run right into the thing Wheatley is plugged into. Reflex save of 16 negates damage but otherwise 8 damage. And that sucker will be around for four more rounds. All presuming the spell works, of course.]

[ wow, all that shit works, y'all are heartless bastards. HE HASN'T EVEN DONE ANYTHING YET EXCEPT MAKE RIDICULOUS DECLARATIONS and sort of bail out on saving your asses ok fine. wheatley starts on fire from gold's burning arc, but he manages to swivel the entire body of the machine now that he's controlling it, so that faye's sphere misses it. so neener neener neener. he does, however, get shot in the face, and his eye cracks as he cries out: ] Ow! That bloody hurt! What is wrong with you people?! I risk my neck to help you, and this is the thanks I get?? Is this any way to treat a god?! You know, I've had it up to here with you ungrateful. SMELLY. HUMANS! [ guess what he can do? he can evaporate faye's continuous spell after its initial attack! and the surge of magic that comes as a result causes faye's mere presence to cause objects to become lost. so i hope none of y'all have anything you need in your pockets. which i guess you don't because glados stole it all. great move, wheatley. a++++ ]

I will say this- she had you beat on quips.

[BURNING ARC. And I lost that fucking spell, so whatever. Gold just gets to make a one-liner AND DO NOTHING.]

[ oh he didn't do NOTHING exactly. the machine whirs and clicks, and wheatley laughs. ] Oh, you think so, do you? Well, do you feel that? That's the feeling of all of you LOSING YOUR SENSE OF SMELL!

AND TASTE! Taste too! Both of them! Gone forever!! I did that! Just now!

so she shoots again. at wheatley's stupid eye. (ranged atk 20 total; 7 dmg) ]

What the fuck?! [That spell was not supposed to fizzle out like. Rude as hell. Okay. Still sticking to fire spells bc that's what she do, but changing gears. BURNING HANDS TIME. Fire shoots from her fingertips- again at the body that he's attached to because that range is only 15 feet. Reflex of 15 for half damage, spell damage 11.]

I told you if you crossed us, I would show you how fast each of your parts melt. [DO YOU THINK THIS IS A GAME.]

[Meanwhile, Gold's gonna try a Knock spell to unlock Wheatley from the stupid thing, because if he can't control it, then their problems are half solved.]

[ideamachine]

[ astrid's bullet leaves another big dent in wheatley, cracking his chassis further, as faye's spell finally burns at some of the LIES unit.

gold's spell, however, backfires. ] No respect, whatsoever! I bet you don't even feel bad, do you? Well, NOW YOU WILL!! [ yep, congrats gold. every time that you cast a spell, you will now be wracked with guilt. ]

If we can get the panel open, I think I can rip it out of there with a spell.

[It's just an idea. Or just keep shooting it, Astrid. That also seems to work.]

I'm trying. [Gold casts Knock again and instantly he feels like the biggest monster ever.] I just don't want to harm the poor thing.

Ow! Oh, I quite like him, he can stay. In fact... he can stay FOREVER!!! [ sorry gold. it backfires again and now your shoes double in weight for every step you take. ]

Alright, new plan. Just burn the bitch to the ground. [Burning hands again. 9 damage if it works.]

I guess that's just back to the old plan. Whatever.

[ ♬ you monster - will bedford

wheatley's head swivels towards faye when he sees what she's trying to do, and he cries out in protest: ] You're as bad as her, do you know that?? Going around, hurting people for no good reason. In fact, YOU DESERVE THIS, YOU DO. If you want to be like her so bad, THEN HERE.

[ faye's entire body spasms for a moment as the machine whirs and pulses blood red. her heartbeat seems to come to a complete stop, her eyes rolling back in her head as her body goes slack, crumpling on the ground.

a moment later, there's a strange humming sound and her eyes snap open again, glowing with a strange light of their own, that seems highly reminiscent of the electronic LEDS. ]

[astrid will take her turn to ... be extremely concerned.] Faye? [SHE ONLY HAS THREE BULLETS LEFT DON'T MAKE HER USE THEM ON YOU.]

[Gold looks between Wheatley and Faye like HOW COULD YOU??? I DON'T WANT TO HAVE TO USE MAGIC TO FIX THIS. CURSE THIS INFERNAL MAGIC!!!

Okay he's just gonna try another Knock on Wheatley, which works this time! YAAAY. Ohgodhe'ssosorry.] You left me no choice.

[He sounds like... he just kicked a puppy.]

[Faye blinks a few times before pushing herself up to her knees.]

I'm... I don't know. Something's not right. [Standing up, she watches as Gold's spell works and looks pretty ecstatic about that. Reaching her hand out, she tries to cast Mage Hand to yank the fucker out of there. But then more wild magic oops.]

[ wheatley swivels his head as the locks disengage, and panic seeps into his voice as he says: ] What... what do you think you're doing then?? Ohhh no. No, no, no. Not so easily! [ and as faye tries to cast, she... disappears. ] Just for the record, I'd REALLY hate to be her right about now.

Where did she go?! [POINTS THE GUN AT WHEATLEY SOME MORE.]

Somewhere will I think she'll be very glad... that she lost her sense of smell. Just saying.
