The pain had started the evening prior, but Hayley thought it was just the baby shifting around and deciding that it needed to move again. She kept track of them, but didn't think much of it. She hadn't ever gone to a doctor to get her exact due date. She knew roughly, but she wasn't sure if that would match up evenly once she had gone through the veil. By the middle of the morning, she's pretty sure that this is not just an odd feeling. She finds Rebekah and lets her know so that she can go figure out whatever needs to be figured out. The one thing that she knows is that her water hasn't broken yet, so that's a small favor.

She would be really okay with a few more small favors.

[Waiting for the during drama to play out, but Klaus is going to be here too. :')]

[Hey. I just met you... and this is crazy... but take a look --

Here's your baby.

Hayley knows that it's probably been bothering him to be outside the room the entire time, but she's also positive that if he had been in the room during all the complications he might have become one of the complications. Now, though, she's just tired and worn out, and possibly sweaty and gross. Still, she's holding her baby, still trying to settle on a name. She does glance up and wave him in, though. Maybe seeing her will do something, trigger some underlying desire for caring about his daughter.]

She's a fighter, that's for sure.

[asuma]

Of course she is. [Like that shit should be a given tbh.

But it still hasn't quite sunk in for him that this is, in fact, his child. Even now that he can see it--can see her in her mother's arms as he approaches their bedside, he still finds himself unable to fully accept these events as they have been described to him.

It could be due, at least in part, to the fact that unlike Hayley, Klaus hasn't had the past nine months to come to terms with his impending parenthood. Without so much as a month's notice this was all a little sudden for him. The fact that he was here at all and not actively murdering them both should speak for itself, right?

... In a really fucked up way ok. But he's not just here to watch. He was supposed to be an active participant (now that the difficult part was over with lmao).]

[Hayley is still a bit apprehensive, if only because she knows that this Klaus hasn't had the nine months to prepare and even for her those nine months weren't the best. There had been good moments, though. Ones that let her trust him more and more, but she didn't have that to lean back on here. He hadn't made himself vulnerable or offered her anything more than the chance for her to try and convince him that this baby is his.

Hayley looks down at their baby girl, her hand sweeping over the top of her head. She wants to protect her and she knows that it'll be okay, that if anyone so much as tries to harm her child she'll kill them, but it's still that moment of having just gone through so much to bring her into this world only to have to hand her off again.

She kisses the top of her head and then shifts her arms as she looks to Klaus.]

Here, just slide your hand underneath here. [Her arms lift the baby up and away from her slightly, trying to keep her on that same even position in her arms.]

Not that he would but, you know, he doesn't like when other people don't cooperate with him. But he's careful to do as she instructs, despite the fact that this isn't the first baby he's ever held. It very well may have been hers, however, so the excessive caution on her part is understandable.

Once he has her, he remains standing where he is if only to prevent Hayley from going into mama werewolf mode. Apart from that little consideration his focus appears to be entirely on his their daughter. Klaus gazes at her for a good few moments as though doing so might spark some sort of recognition to ease all of his doubts.

It doesn't happen, but she's adorable as fuck and he isn't entirely heartless so he can still appreciate that if she is his daughter, she's not one of those new babies that makes you wonder why the fuck people find babies cute in the first place.]

Have you chosen a name?

[She had a few names rolling around for a while, but no one had really asked her -- no one actually had much time to ask her what she'd been thinking back home, that she's not given it much thought since she arrived.]

Not really. I mean, I had a few ideas, but now that I've seen her they all seem wrong.

Humor me anyway. Let's hear what you've come up with.

[Because, right for her or not, at least she'd taken the time to consider a few. Klaus, meanwhile, had not. Then again, it probably wasn't really his place to do so. Father of her child or not, it wasn't as though he'd been invested in Hayley's pregnancy until the very end--and even then...]

[She glances to him, pushing her hair out of her face.]

Kaitlyn had been one. Olivia is another... [She shrugs as she watches him holding the baby.]

Both are fine names, if you want my opinion on the matter.

Though I admit, of the two I'm partial to Olivia.

It wasn't on my list originally, but I thought of it earlier today.

It's lovely. As is our daughter.

[He strokes a thumb across that chubby little bb cheek. :3]

[She's not sure why it was so important for him to be okay with the name, but she still feels like he's waiting for her to pass some sort of test. Hearing him say 'our daughter' does take some of the weight off of her shoulders and she nods, smiling softly (and really she's probably just exhausted) at Klaus holding their baby.]

She'll be safer here. [At least she hopes that's true.]
