Strange winds have blown in, bringing on an unusually chill winter in New Zealand. The ground crunches underfoot with snow, the days growing shoter and stars holding court in the darkness reigning above. An unnatural cold permeates the town, and the river's jubilant voice is frozen under the ice. Birds abandon their nests for warmer climes, their songs silenced by winter's grim embrace. But the frozen riverbank now hosts a shimmering respite from the gloomy cold in the form of garish tents, joyful shouts, and sumptuous smells. Vaale's Carnival has come to town.

Gaiety and laughter cut through the cold wind, and even the sky-shy sun peeks its face from around the gathering winter clouds. Children squeal with delight and gasp in awe at the sights, sounds, and smells of Vaale's Carnival. The Titan's Wheel creaks and groans as a burly lumberjack tests his might wit a hefty spin, a family rushes giggling into the sprawling ice maze to the north, and dozens of happy skaters flit about the rinks atop the frozen river. Carnival dolls are handed to wide-eyed townspeople as prizes and a menagerie of freakish creatures and glowing lights beckons the curious. Garish skirts and scanty veils call others to a different breed of voyeurism altogether. Treats and wonders abound for young and old to enjoy, and for a time, the harsh winter is forgotten in joyful revelry. There's nothing to indicate any sinister going on whatsoever, as the group surveys the happy smiles of the crowd.

[ Mars moved to stand behind Bo. He figures Kenzi's answer is good for Klaus.]

We can put a stop to this if you can help us. [ He added. Look at Klaus that mans a tank. They got this.]

[ lis'sa nods to klaus on the other hand. ] And quickly. I think you can handle it. [ it sounds more like i think you'll enjoy it to be honest.

vaale turns to them slowly, and then reaches to his belt to draw off a wand there. he reaches out to hand it to mars.

"This will heal the injuries you and your friends have sustained. I'd like to thank you ... for saving Tessa, and restoring my life and freedom. I don't know if you could ever understand what it means to be free of that monster." his expression turns grim. "I'll do whatever I can to put an end to these vile creatures and drive them back to the dark shadows where they belong. The Cold Rider will realize that his plans are being disrupted, and come on his own, in due time. We should do everything we can to save more of these people until then." ]

[Sorry, Kenzi, duty calls. Klaus looks hella amused that she wants him to stay around and protect her, though. :')

He backtracks the short distance to the attraction, and heads for the frost brownie focused on yanking people toward the torture device.

I guess he wants to see how many more of these little guys he can one-shot because, uh, he goes in hard (attack 24, damage 20).]

[ lmfao well. that was successful. his fist punches home like a battering ram, ploughing deep into the brownie's expiring body. one of the two freaks out, opening the door to the back of the windmill and disappearing inside, but the other tries to grip klaus' wrist (touch attack 5), but can't get anywhere near him.

lis'sa glances back at that with half-interest, before turning to vaale again. ] You might do us some good by announcing the carnival is closed, trying to clear out some of the innocents before the Rider arrives.

[What kawaii little creatures these things are after they are bleeding profusely and promptly expiring. I guess Klaus gets a little too into splattering the frost brownies or whatever tf they are called like piñatas because when he tries to do the same to the one reaching for his wrist he proceeds to crit fail whoops.]

[ Mars reached out at the offer, taking the wand. He felt bad for these two, it must have been hell. Healing his own wounds with it first Cura was super effective. He offered it over towards Bo. Just in case.]

[ yeah klaus swings too hard, and ends up falling face first into the mud and blood that make up the pureed body pit around the wheel. awk.

the brownie takes advantage of this to try to stab him but it only got a 14, so he rolls out of the way of the blade before it can bite into him. ]

But at least it got him to stop fucking around and focus on being serious, because while he's getting up and on his feet again, the brownie stabs him for a whopping 2 damage.

Klaus comes back with an attack 25, damage 12 like he is playing whack-a-mole with this bitch.]

Instead she's mime fighting from a safe distance while watching Klaus make Brownie Confetti.

anyways, that'll take out the brownie. lis'sa gestures towards the cotter pins holding the wheel in place. ] If you take those out, it'll crash into the lake, and stop them from killing anyone else. [ and she'll take a few cures off that wand to heal herself up too ty ]

Klaus will stomp on the broken little brownie for ~good measure~ (read: because he's pissed that he is currently covered in mud and human puree.

He looks toward the door to the windmill and briefly considers chasing after the one that ran off, but instead does as Lis'sa suggests and heads over to disassemble the strong man attraction so that it can't be used when they move on.

Do I need to roll something for this?]

[ disable device?? i would say as long as he rolls over a 5 he can figure it out, it's not rocket science. in the meantime, ERRYONE ELSE WHO NEEDS HEALING GETS HEALED UP TO FULL WOO ]

But he kind of wants to kill more shit (what he doesn't get to do this as much anymore), so after that's done he's just like--]

[ klaus is deprived of the joy of murder as the brownie tries to run out the back to stop the wheel and gets... squished by it as it goes free of its stand, and rolls towards the icy lake, splashing into the area where the ice carving contest had been going on earlier.

lis'sa watches it go in, and then nods down the path ] There'll be more. [ and she's determined to stop them, before the Cold Rider approaches, clearly. vaale draws both swords off his back, spinning them both, signalling his willingness to help. ]

[ the delicious scent of sugary berries and fresh-baked pastry wafts by, drifting from a tent near the river. waving high in the air above it, a blue silk banner beckons: "Biggy Piggy Pie-Eating Contest!" in bright gold letters. beneath the banner sits a twenty-foot long table covered with a red-checkered tablecloth. seated at a bench before the table, twelve local contestants eagerly stare at the tremendous steaming pies placed before them. with napkins tucked into their shirts and their hands tied behind their backs, they await the signal to begin. near the table, a wooden sign staked into the ground reads: "Entrance fee: 2 dollars, Winner gets fat prize!"

to the left of the table, the event's sponsor emerges from behind a wheeled cart bearing the weight of a coal-burning oven. with a bellowing voice that compliments his immense rotundness, the pie chef yells: "Begin!" within seconds, contestants faces greedily plunge into the fresh-baked pies as they slobber and gnash their way to victory.

what's notable about the man in question, however, is that he appears to be a 600 pound anthropomorphic swine. he steps behind a strange device that looks like a giant butter churn attached to a spinning wheel with a big foot pedal. in the front of the churning chamber, a metal spigot attaches to a 10 foot hose. ]

Not a fan of pastries, I take it? [Said as he comes up to stand beside Bo, after taking in the sight laid out before them.

He knew that wasn't the issue here, but someone had to have no fucks to give at all times. Or at least pretend to.]

The pies... [ lis'sa sounds a little horrified as she notices what's leaking out of the pie crusts that those people are diving into. a spot check of 12+ is enough to notice what she does - that they look like diseased entrails. she pulls up her gun again, taking aim at the pig monster... who notices, and swings the pump to point in their direction. ]

[ Excuse Mars while he goes and starts throwing up again. OMFG HE ATE THAT.]

[She will never look at pie the same way again.

She already has her gun out, but she's on the move, trying to get close to the hose of the pump before she takes a shot at Mr. Piggy (atk 18, dmg 14 with penetration if it hits)]

But apparently learning you've eaten people is a surefire why to get you to shoot straight, Kenzi pulling out her gun and aiming a shot at Mr Piggy;

[Klaus doesn't like the idea of getting hosed down but let's face it, he's already covered in mud and pureed people from faceplanting into the river of blended gore earlier.

He makes his way toward the pig chef, but he's careful to curve around so that he isn't in the direct line of fire if said piggy decides to unload on the team.

Which means he probably doesn't reach him in one round, ah well.]
