There are plenty of missions that return to the castle a success - most of them, even. The defeated air of the solemn group that returns from their diplomatic mission to Andres Isle to hear the demands of dictator Dimitris Sarandis makes it quite clear that this wasn't one of those.

Starting with Sarandis' actual demands - for all Knights to withdraw from Andres under penalty of death, or for Wynn to offer his own head in return for Thomas' safe return - and ending with the unexpected, disturbing confession from Kat that she intended to stay behind on the island because she had "fallen in love with" the dictator, the events of the island made it very clear that Sarandis was cannily playing his hand to get the Knights where he wanted them.

Fred Jr. shoves open the doors with his unnatural strength, stalking in ahead of the group into the lobby. Whoever's on desk duty isn't going to have to roll a high wisdom check to see that these people are pissed... and distraught... and a myriad of other emotions on the bad end of the scale.

*I am changing the date of the briefing log and Andres log/live session to have taken place in September, to avoid us being in backdated hell forever, and to allow for a September squiring ceremony before apps are closed. Carry on... in the future!

[because of his superhearing, he heard that shit like it was on speakerphone for the entire hotel to hear. and heaves a sigh, head going back against their little hotel suite couch. in the words of kenan and kel, aw here it goes.] Are you gonna do it?

I don't know. [ if he was expecting her to have an answer after five seconds he was expecting way too much from her. she doesn't feel much for kat in general so she doesn't really care about the girl's specific plight (whoops), but she knows andres is basically one huge people cage and she does have an emotional problem with cages.

which is not selling her in favor of going, because if they lose -- and she is far from optimistic enough to imagine they'll win -- then she will be trapped on this island of torture and cages and lila has had enough of that for her life. three years of that and if anyone dared say it wasn't torture, she would put them in a shock collar for a week and then see how they felt. every part of her is recoiling from the idea of going to this place, to the point that she visibly recoils from the phone, pressing against sylar because he is safety right now.

I don't think want is ever going to come in to it. [ she is very, very emotionally fucked up, but not enough to prance off to war for the fun of it. she rubs her forehead roughly with the back of her hand, knuckles digging into her temples.

lila doesn't really care about the mission, that is the problem. she would be mildly distressed if wynn were to die because she would be out of a job, but she squirreled away her paychecks in real estate, just like her daddy. she would be fine if the knights were to be suddenly disbanded and so would faye and alex and the rest of her people because she would make sure of it. in terms of nest eggs, hers is lady gaga sized whereas, comparatively, faye's is probably a goose egg. (a golden one though, nothing but the best for her girl.) lila would miss the security of a job and the steady flow of money into her bank account, but she would be able to survive comfortably because she made sure to plan it that way.

but she won't let faye go without her and faye is... unpredictable. she tries so hard to be good (and she is, but lila isn't sure she realizes it yet) and this is a good. this is a huge, shining beacon of good.

she sighs, head tipping to rest her forehead against his neck. ] You know I hate leaving you, right? It's the worst part of the day.

Yeah, you're my war wife, sweetie. [ she nods with a roll of her eyes, he is such a toolbag. why does she love him? why. he is a giant dork. and she's disgustingly in love with him. make it stop. ] If that was some sneaky way to get me to propose, I hope you rethink that because I'll do it.

[ she props her chin on his shoulder to look at him properly. ] Do you want to get married?

[ she's not asking him to get married, she's asking if he wants to. there is a subtle difference. ]

[he furrows his brow a little, surprise being the dominant emotion here.] Didn't we talk about this before?

Yeah, but I'm pretty sure the conversation started with you not worrying about me dying? And now I'm going to an actual war. [ in case he... forgot that part. wait, why is she... no. she shakes her head, taking his clarification to mean "no" in any case. ] No, you're going to be a war bride in name only, sorry, sweetie.

You would marry me tonight? [ it's not really a question since she believes him completely. she ducks her head, forehead pressed against his shoulder. she's not thinking about it, she still doesn't want to get married tonight or tomorrow. but his willingness to... drop everything and do it. for her... curling her arm around his shoulders, she sniffles because she is actually really, really scared before lifting her head, fingers brushing against the hair at the back of his neck. she licks her lips before she speaks again. ] Five years from now sounds great.

Well, yeah. [he kisses the top of her head while she's pressed against his shoulder.] You got me turned on to that whole war bride thing. [he smiles, joking except for the part where he was serious about marrying her ok. and now that she's lifted her head, he will kiss her for real.]

[ when they break apart, she bumps her nose against his. ] I love you, Sylar. You better write me letters and spray them with cologne. [ she has slowly been replacing the axe. thank god. ] Or I'm gonna take away your war bride status, okay?

[ her voice cracks a little on the end, because... this is a lot. she is nineteen, she shouldn't be having this discussion, she shouldn't be going to this awful island. the fact that she is, that all of this is happening whether it should or not, just makes her happier that she has this tiny place of solace in sylar, a little bubble of safety and happiness. this is her future. she just has to make it home in order to keep it.
