There are plenty of missions that return to the castle a success - most of them, even. The defeated air of the solemn group that returns from their diplomatic mission to Andres Isle to hear the demands of dictator Dimitris Sarandis makes it quite clear that this wasn't one of those.

Starting with Sarandis' actual demands - for all Knights to withdraw from Andres under penalty of death, or for Wynn to offer his own head in return for Thomas' safe return - and ending with the unexpected, disturbing confession from Kat that she intended to stay behind on the island because she had "fallen in love with" the dictator, the events of the island made it very clear that Sarandis was cannily playing his hand to get the Knights where he wanted them.

Fred Jr. shoves open the doors with his unnatural strength, stalking in ahead of the group into the lobby. Whoever's on desk duty isn't going to have to roll a high wisdom check to see that these people are pissed... and distraught... and a myriad of other emotions on the bad end of the scale.

*I am changing the date of the briefing log and Andres log/live session to have taken place in September, to avoid us being in backdated hell forever, and to allow for a September squiring ceremony before apps are closed. Carry on... in the future!

Not a whole lot of time left before we ship out. What's holding up the decision making process?

My dad was hunter. [ she looks down, so she doesn't have to look at stiles. it's a nice couch. and she knows her answer isn't an answer, it's just hard for her to elaborate. ] He hunted... people. Girls like me. If I go... I'll be doing the same thing.

Abigail, it's not the same. Hunting is a... sport. Or some sort of survival thing, depending. But it's not like this. No one here wants to kill anyone just for the hell of it. [he can't actually say that for sure but whatever.]

Some sort of survival thing. [ she makes a face, bitter, like what do you think you'll be trying to do on torture island? but she doesn't say that, letting it sit silently on her expression before she straightens up. nick was some sort of survival thing. alana was some sort of survival thing. luring those girls... abigail's entire life is about survival. ]

[Her expression and the straightening make him scramble up to kneel on the couch, like he's worried she's going to bolt.]

Hey, I'm not... I'm not saying anything about your dad or any of that. I just think this is different. That's all. But if you don't want to go, that's your choice.

Of course I don't want to go, I'm not suicidal.

I'm not either, Abs. [I guess he's going to nickname town all of a sudden.]

I don't think wanting to go means you have a death wish

[ her mouth thins into a line. there is something inherently death wish like about a teenager running off to war. ] What part of torture and experiments did you miss? He's kept a Dragon's Claw -- who is admittedly one of the two best, most capable knights -- in a prison for upwards of five months. [ what she doesn't say is: you're sixteen, what the hell are you going to do? but it's there, unspoken. ]

And if Wynn didn't think we could help, he wouldn't ask us to go. I don't know anything about the Dragon's Claws alright? But my friend is trapped there. And I need to do something. I can't just sit here and wait for them to tell me she died.

[Except with her staying, that's sort of what she'll be doing for him. But Stiles had a hard time knowing how much Abigail would even care about that.]

I have to do this. And I get that you don't want to... And that's fine. But I'm not just trying to find a quick way to an early grave. I've been training. I've been getting better. Hell, I know a little magic.

[ knowing she isn't going to be able to talk sense into him or at least making him pause long enough to even think about it, she just lets it drop. she's too tired to get into a discussion about how wynn is obviously banking on the idealism of the people he recruits to shore up his troops. she doesn't want to tell stiles that at this point he is basically cannon fodder. so instead she frowns, tightening her crossed arms. ]

Don't be stupid. [ and with that, she turns on her heel and stalks out. ]
