There are plenty of missions that return to the castle a success - most of them, even. The defeated air of the solemn group that returns from their diplomatic mission to Andres Isle to hear the demands of dictator Dimitris Sarandis makes it quite clear that this wasn't one of those.

Starting with Sarandis' actual demands - for all Knights to withdraw from Andres under penalty of death, or for Wynn to offer his own head in return for Thomas' safe return - and ending with the unexpected, disturbing confession from Kat that she intended to stay behind on the island because she had "fallen in love with" the dictator, the events of the island made it very clear that Sarandis was cannily playing his hand to get the Knights where he wanted them.

Fred Jr. shoves open the doors with his unnatural strength, stalking in ahead of the group into the lobby. Whoever's on desk duty isn't going to have to roll a high wisdom check to see that these people are pissed... and distraught... and a myriad of other emotions on the bad end of the scale.

*I am changing the date of the briefing log and Andres log/live session to have taken place in September, to avoid us being in backdated hell forever, and to allow for a September squiring ceremony before apps are closed. Carry on... in the future!

[ A look of faint amusement crosses her features and she glances away from him, reflecting. ]

Logan, dear, there have been battles lines drawn between you and I before. I would argue I'm the only woman in this castle who knows precisely how scared we all ought to be of the possibility.

[ sometimes logan manages to forget, after all these years, that emma knows some other him, some stranger that's given her an eerie shadow of experience with him before he ever came to know her here. and then sometimes, comments like that serve as a stark reminder. ] Good thing I'm so damn one of a kind, then. [ the morbid humor is accompanied by a smirk that doesn't serve to dispel the look in his eyes ]

[ She pauses, darkly reflective. Then, apropos of nothing, she adds; ] I've heard Nathan made his way to London, as well.

I told him to go let you know. He had no idea how bad it was. Thought there might have been others.

[telepathy]

None that I can sense. Granted, my psychic sense aren’t what they used to be.

[ And for some reason the Knights don’t have a Cerebro. Get on that shit. Her expression turns dour and she glances away. ]

I told him about Summers. [ being coma boy. that was a fun convo. ]

[telepathy]

[ Her voice takes on a sharp, protective quality. For all intents and purposes, Scott seems something of a lost cause. It usually isn't quite so difficult for clerics to rouse the victims of explosions. ]

The truth. That they don't know what's keeping him comatose.

[ Well that's more positive than she'd expected. But accurate. And she takes a moment to let her gaze drop, discouragement buried beneath a sour look as she glances aside. ]

Didn't say it wasn't. If anyone was gonna find a way to turn their coma into a dick move, it'd be him.

[ Getting a squinty look from a telepath usually indicates being read, but Emma makes no move to probe into his mind as she fixes him with an inscrutable expression. He makes a fair point—what's more, she's genuinely interested, and not simply in digging the distinctions out of his head.

(Truth be told, she's witnessed a great number of them in the past already. But drudging up one of his worse moments doesn't seem like a way to win friends, and Emma is short on those these days.) ]

[ She's left chuckling in his wake, unbothered by the dig. In fact, she takes great comfort in it. ]

If there's one thing I excel at ...

[ Her own survival has always been her first priority. Until Scott. Until her children. But it's easier to fall back on that now when she's had both ripped from her. ]
