There are plenty of missions that return to the castle a success - most of them, even. The defeated air of the solemn group that returns from their diplomatic mission to Andres Isle to hear the demands of dictator Dimitris Sarandis makes it quite clear that this wasn't one of those.

Starting with Sarandis' actual demands - for all Knights to withdraw from Andres under penalty of death, or for Wynn to offer his own head in return for Thomas' safe return - and ending with the unexpected, disturbing confession from Kat that she intended to stay behind on the island because she had "fallen in love with" the dictator, the events of the island made it very clear that Sarandis was cannily playing his hand to get the Knights where he wanted them.

Fred Jr. shoves open the doors with his unnatural strength, stalking in ahead of the group into the lobby. Whoever's on desk duty isn't going to have to roll a high wisdom check to see that these people are pissed... and distraught... and a myriad of other emotions on the bad end of the scale.

*I am changing the date of the briefing log and Andres log/live session to have taken place in September, to avoid us being in backdated hell forever, and to allow for a September squiring ceremony before apps are closed. Carry on... in the future!

Yeah, sure. Andrew, you got this? [ without waiting for an answer, he gets to his feet with a tiny aged groan and follows ]

Are you going to Andres? [ straight to the point, lila has shit to do so she isn't making time for pleasantries. ]

No, I was thinking of catching a Gilligan's Island marathon and it's gonna cut into Season Two. [ ok but seriously ] 'Course I am. They need me.

[bittersweeter]

[ ur old, honey badger. ] I need you to do me a morbid favor. [ and she whips out a piece of paper from her pocket that has DO NOT RESUSCITATE printed across the top. ] I need a witness. Sign please. [ she will supply that one, too, pulling it out of the same pocket. ]

[ he looks at the paper, then up at her, not reaching for it ] ... The hell is this.

What does it look like? And before you get all bitchy and say no to spite me, it's not like I'm making you notarize my living will. I've had it filled out for a month I was just too lazy to get anyone to sign it. No time like the present. [ she shakes it insistently. ]

[ she rolls her eyes in annoyance. ] No. Because I have a brain that actually works and I'm not stupid enough to think it's not a possibility. I'm asking you to sign it because I actually trust you to admit it exists in case something does happen. [ because faye will not, faye will ignore it completely, and she's pretty damn sure emma will do the same under the idea that lila can be mad at her after, but she'll be alive to do so. ] I have no intention of dying but it could happen. So sign the damn papers, please.

I'll sign it. [ and he grumbles but does so ] But I'm gonna disagree with the part about you having a brain.

Just because my pragmatism bugs you doesn't mean I dont have a brain. [ she waits for him to sign, patient now that she's gotten her way. ] Thank you.

What bugs me is the attitude going in there. Why's this any different from some other mission where you're risking your neck?

It's not, if you ignore the whole "war" part of the equation. But I didn't have a DNR filled out before the other ones, this was just serendipitous timing. [ she folds her arms across her chest, not standoffish, more of a protective gesture. ] I'm not going to live that long anyway, Zero, if I die I'd like it to be on my terms. And I'd actually prefer not to die, knowing I have this in place isn't going to make me less likely to come back in one piece, its going to make less distracted. So I can come back in one piece.

You don't have to act resigned to it. That's all.

Practical and resigned are two different things. Thanks. [ she's already said it, but she's taking the papers back and tucking them in her pocket so she felt like it needed to be said again. ] Anyway, if I die you'll let your James Bond style arch-nemesis get away with being a douchebag and we can't have that.

[ her eyebrows trip upward. she's just being an ass now that she's gotten what she wanted though and it's clear she knows he's not going to let calamity befall humanity because of one asshole. ] See you at the briefing.
