There are plenty of missions that return to the castle a success - most of them, even. The defeated air of the solemn group that returns from their diplomatic mission to Andres Isle to hear the demands of dictator Dimitris Sarandis makes it quite clear that this wasn't one of those.

Starting with Sarandis' actual demands - for all Knights to withdraw from Andres under penalty of death, or for Wynn to offer his own head in return for Thomas' safe return - and ending with the unexpected, disturbing confession from Kat that she intended to stay behind on the island because she had "fallen in love with" the dictator, the events of the island made it very clear that Sarandis was cannily playing his hand to get the Knights where he wanted them.

Fred Jr. shoves open the doors with his unnatural strength, stalking in ahead of the group into the lobby. Whoever's on desk duty isn't going to have to roll a high wisdom check to see that these people are pissed... and distraught... and a myriad of other emotions on the bad end of the scale.

*I am changing the date of the briefing log and Andres log/live session to have taken place in September, to avoid us being in backdated hell forever, and to allow for a September squiring ceremony before apps are closed. Carry on... in the future!

[He takes the invitation and comes to steal some couch space.]

You doing okay? With all the war stuff?

[She gives a bit of a shrug. She's not entirely sure how she feels about it at all, beyond one thing.]

I know I'm going. Anything other than that, I don't really know.

[Nodding, he doesn't waste much time before adding:]

I am too. Still doesn't feel real.

[impetere]

It takes a while. I think it'll be worse after, but ...

[That'll be after. When the smoke is cleared and they have to see what's left after everything burns.]

I guess that depends on how bad it gets.

Pretty sure it's gonna get bad. Bad bad. [He sighs and scrubs a hand over his face.]

So what are you working on? [He gestures to the notepad.]

[She glances back to the notepad for a minute before shaking her head.]

It's nothing. It's for Derek. Just in case.

[Because there's a lot he doesn't know about their family, and she wants to tell him, but she doesn't think they'll have time before this all starts. And if she doesn't come back, she still wants him to know.]

He remembers you, doesn't he? I mean, forgetting me makes sense but... You're his sister.

[impetere]

[She shakes her head.]

He doesn't remember anything. I want to be able to tell him myself, but ... if I can't I don't want him to never find out. I don't know if any of the rest of us will fall through the Veil, or even wind up here. Or if they do, that they'll know any more than he does.

[She realizes how lucky it is that she's gotten this time with him at all. The odds are astronomical that all of these things happened the right way, and she's not going to waste it.]

Whoa. [Stiles hasn't realized Derek's veilnesia was so bad.]

That's a lot to put on your shoulders. Not that you can't handle it, just...damn.

[She gives a bit of a shrug. Yeah, it sucked, but sometimes she wonders if it would be better to forget it all - the fire, the feeling when her mother died. Only thing is forgetting doesn't make it have not happened. Even if she forgets, her family will still be dead, and she doesn't have a home.]

It's not that bad. I mean, it's not like I remember a lot to begin with, I was just a kid when the fire happened. I don't know what Peter knew, or my mom knew. And I can't tell him where he went after the fire or what happened to him.

[Her history of the Hales stops the night of the Hale fire, after all. That was when the Hales stopped too.]

I can't even tell him what happened to me after the fire beyond ... winding up in the vault somehow.

[She still doesn't know why she was there.]

The Alphas. [Stiles says, like that explains it.] That's how you ended up in the vault. This pack of alphas put you in there.

[Erica and Boyd too but he's not really sure how much detail he wants to go into at this point.]

I think someone said you were in South America or something?

[Because Iiiiiii can't remember if Stiles should know that or not. /waves hands at canon information.]

[ ... Oh, South America. That probably makes sense in some weird roundabout way, but it's the first part that's more important. And she remembers enough about her mother's friends to put two and two together on that one (wisdom 13).]

Deucalion's pack? Why would they want me?

I don't think it was about you specifically. They wanted... Actually, I don't really remember.

[Because it had to do with Scott and he can't remember him at all :( ]

[:(((( Cora continues to look confused, but she gets how Veilnesia works. Not everything always comes through.]

Guess I'll just have to wait for one of them to show up and hope they remember to figure it out.

[She shrugs.]

He ever remind you of your uncle? Because they both have a weird 'i'm the best alpha to ever alpha' vibe going.

[Fortunately, at this point, Cora knows Peter is alive - at least back home. Thank you, Allison. But it's the other part that gives her pause, her head tipping to the side ever so slightly as she tries to make sense of what Stiles is saying.

Peter is an alpha?

Was. He killed...an alpha and took the power to help him heal from his coma after the fire. Or something. The details aren't important.

[The details involve Peter killing Laura and stiles doesn't want to go there right now.]

But even without alpha power, they both have the same supreme douchey quality.

[Yeah, she crit failed that sense motive, so she won't think anything of reading into the fact that when it comes to Peter killing another alpha what alpha that might be. It's probably for the best. For right now she's just trying to reconcile the Peter Stiles is trying to tell her about with the one she remembers, and it's not exactly easy.]

He can be a bit of a dick sometimes, but I think "supreme douchey" is a little harsh.

I'm gonna guess its either you got a free pass for being his niece or the Veil sucked out enough memories that you just don't remember. But Peter Hale is a sociopath. And that's on a good day.

[impetere]

[Yeah, she recoils from that a little. It's not his doubting her understanding of Peter - she was eleven, he's probably right and she didn't really get to see all of him, but "sociopath on a good day" isn't even close to what she remembers. And she hates that she doubts her own memories because of the Veil.]

I haven't seen Peter since the fire. I thought he was dead until I talked to Allison at the squiring.

Yeah.

[Only the problem is, now it's the only thing she can think about. She'll probably start dissecting what she does remember of Peter and seeing if there's something she's missing on reflection, no matter how fruitless it is. Even if he's not even here for her to deal with.]
