There are plenty of missions that return to the castle a success - most of them, even. The defeated air of the solemn group that returns from their diplomatic mission to Andres Isle to hear the demands of dictator Dimitris Sarandis makes it quite clear that this wasn't one of those.

Starting with Sarandis' actual demands - for all Knights to withdraw from Andres under penalty of death, or for Wynn to offer his own head in return for Thomas' safe return - and ending with the unexpected, disturbing confession from Kat that she intended to stay behind on the island because she had "fallen in love with" the dictator, the events of the island made it very clear that Sarandis was cannily playing his hand to get the Knights where he wanted them.

Fred Jr. shoves open the doors with his unnatural strength, stalking in ahead of the group into the lobby. Whoever's on desk duty isn't going to have to roll a high wisdom check to see that these people are pissed... and distraught... and a myriad of other emotions on the bad end of the scale.

*I am changing the date of the briefing log and Andres log/live session to have taken place in September, to avoid us being in backdated hell forever, and to allow for a September squiring ceremony before apps are closed. Carry on... in the future!

[ she turns to look at him, wiping sweat from her brow as she looks him over ] ... Hey.

I take it you're going?

[Either that or she can't and she's taking out her aggression on the dummies, but he's guessing he's right.]

Wouldn't miss it. [ she turns to get in one more jab, huffing out a breath to blow hair out of her eyes ] It feels ... right. Going out there. Doing something.

You know, ever since I joined up here, I wanted to be a part of something big like this. Now that it's here, it's kind of surreal. Almost like I feel shitty for wanting it.

But yeah, you're right. Someone has to do something. Why not us?

Are you worried?

I'd have to be a little crazy not to be, right? It's not just about me, after all. Any of us could be the one that goes down.

[flyingsolo]

Wow. The optimism never stops around here.

It's one thing to stop some crazy ghost from terrorizing a neighborhood or stop a rampaging monster.

Just...don't get yourself killed.

Yeah? [ a little smile curves her cheek, as she looks him over, amused, but not at his expense. ] A lot, huh?

[Totally nonchalant, okay. He takes a small step closer, getting a little invasive on her personal space.]

Pretty much more than anyone else here.

[flyingsolo]

[ her eyes flick behind him for a moment, confirming that they're alone for the moment here in the training room, before she looks back up at him, not shying away. ] That goes two ways, you know. You better not die on me.

[cuivre]

[Her response gives him more confidence, because it's nice to hear that he'd be missed, too. Not that he thought otherwise but...you know.

But he's had a thing for her for months now, but she's also been one of the only girls he's met in his entire life where he really cared if he screwed things up by pushing the envelope.

Plus, he's pretty sure she could break him in half if she wanted to. (Hey, it's hot. Scary sometimes, but hot.)

But he's not going to go off to war without having at least tried, so he takes another step forward, closing the space between them, reaching out to cup the side of her face in his hand.]

Wouldn't dream of it.

[flyingsolo]

[ her eyes sweep over to his hand, and then back to his face, the clear sweep of nerves and instinctive freezing up pushed aside quickly enough, replaced with a warmth in her gaze as she gives him a little smirk. ]

If you've got something you're looking to do, now might be the time to do it.

[cuivre]

[He responds with a crooked smile of his own along with a quiet breath of inaudible laughter before he leans in and presses his lips against hers.]

[ her eyes flash closed, and for a moment, she just lets him kiss her, seems to test out how it feels, how she feels about it. but after a few moments where it seems like maybe she's not that enthusiastic about this, she reaches a decisive hand out to his waist to yank him close, softening as she presses herself against him for the length of several heartbeats. when the kiss breaks, her eyes linger closed a moment, before opening hesitantly, as if she's unsure about what she'll see when she looks at his face. ]

His one hand remains to cup her cheek, though the other slips up into her hair when she finally pulls him close, because damn if that isn't hot, okay? He's always liked that she seems to know what she wants, the way she isn't shy about doing something about it, and her response gives him the confidence to deepen the kiss briefly before it eventually ends.

He opens his eyes to look at her as the space between them widens a bit, his eyebrows raised as he anticipates her reaction.]

Sorry if I sprung that one you, but I've been wanting to do that for awhile.

[flyingsolo]

[ she slides her hand up to rest on his chest, which she taps as she studies his features with undisguised interest from so close up. ] Better late than never.

[cuivre]

[He curls a lock of her hair around his finger, just admiring it for a moment as he speaks.]

Well, if I have the guts and go off to fight in this thing, I better have the courage to kiss the girl I fancy first, right?

[His voice is teasing even if it's...totally true, okay.]

Did you just say 'fancy'? [ her expression breaks into a wide grin ]

[He laughs.]

I've been in London too long. It think it's starting to rub off on me.
