There are plenty of missions that return to the castle a success - most of them, even. The defeated air of the solemn group that returns from their diplomatic mission to Andres Isle to hear the demands of dictator Dimitris Sarandis makes it quite clear that this wasn't one of those.

Starting with Sarandis' actual demands - for all Knights to withdraw from Andres under penalty of death, or for Wynn to offer his own head in return for Thomas' safe return - and ending with the unexpected, disturbing confession from Kat that she intended to stay behind on the island because she had "fallen in love with" the dictator, the events of the island made it very clear that Sarandis was cannily playing his hand to get the Knights where he wanted them.

Fred Jr. shoves open the doors with his unnatural strength, stalking in ahead of the group into the lobby. Whoever's on desk duty isn't going to have to roll a high wisdom check to see that these people are pissed... and distraught... and a myriad of other emotions on the bad end of the scale.

*I am changing the date of the briefing log and Andres log/live session to have taken place in September, to avoid us being in backdated hell forever, and to allow for a September squiring ceremony before apps are closed. Carry on... in the future!

[Oh, that makes much more sense. On one hand, it is his personal mission. On the other, he could probably stand to babble at someone for awhile to get his head clear.]

Why not? [He shrugs.] I ain't got no one else to brainstrom with.

Oh goody. Follow me! [ and she just takes off. toward the kitchen. b&e = ] Do you like bacon and eggs?

[The problem with not having a decent meal in two months is the fact that you just sort of push the idea to the back of your mind. It's sort of secondary to all the other things going through his mind.

But the second she mentions bacon and eggs, Rocket looks at her like she just told him she knows the way to all-expenses paid vacation to a resort planet with a secret underground gunrunning racket operating behind the scenes.]

Yeah? [He doesn't know if she's asking because it's conversation or if she's offering. Please be offering. Please.]

[ she nods, pleased. ] Now I don't have to eat alone. I can only make scrambled eggs though, they didn't teach us to be able to live on our own, but scrambled eggs are surprisingly easy. I put cheese in them. [ /chatters all the way to the kitchen about eggs and bacon. ]

Lady, you could put poison in 'em and I'd probably eat it at this point.

[Okay, maybe he's not that far gone, but goddamn that is a long time without an Egg McMuffin and it would be a death he'd be totally fine with, so he just follows along. You are his favorite person, Kali.]

That would be bad. [ she recognizes it as probably a joke? maybe... hyperbole??? but she still frowns. b a d. but look, they're in the kitchen now and she starts pulling shit out of places. big as frying pan, entire dozen eggs, bag of shredded cheese, salt, pepper, milk. a+. she cracks all the eggs and pours everything into a ziplock bag. and then puts the closed bag inside another ziplock bag.

just in case. then she holds it out to rocket because spoilers, he is helping her. ] Shake, please.

[Well, if you're not gonna get all uppity about furry animals touching the food (even when it's in two plastic bags), he ain't gonna complain about scrambling eggs in a bag. Plus it's mildly relaxing.]

The thing is- [he continues a conversation that never actually started] -breakin' into a prison ain't the hard part. They want you inside so's they can lock the door on you as soon as you get in. By breakin' into the joint, you already did the hard part for 'em.

[ she starts on the bacon while rocket is shaking it like a polaroid picture. mm bacon. ]

Leave the door open behind you? That's how the Knights got us out. [ kali assumes, since all the doors were miraculously opened when she and her brethren caught their freedom. the doors were usually not open. she seems to recognize this is a bad idea, though, mouth turning down in a disappointed pout like wow kali no. u suck. ]

I wish it were that simple. I just busted out hours ago and it was more dumb luck than I ever wanna rely on for a plan. [Is this thing shook enough yet??? He holds the bag up. And sometimes I forget Rocket is a raccoon and that this is a fucking hysterical image, so here it is. Me realizing Rocket is a raccoon and laughing.

Rocket sure isn't laughing. He's eerily placid.] Luckily, I ain't gonna be concerned about bein' subtle this time. I plan on mowin' through those sick bastards.

Perfect, can you pour it in the pan, please? [ so polite. and in a very obvious motion, while she turns the bacon, she holds out her free arm. as if offering it for him to climb up so he doesn't have to get down from the stool and climb up to the counter. she's a bridge. and an unconcerned one at that, busy with the bacon and mulling over the prison predicament. ]

So holding the door open could be a plan. Part of a plan. [ 12% of a plan. ] I assume there will be violence to fill in the rest of the plan and some way of ferrying prisoners to safety.

[Rocket grips the top of the bag gently in his teeth, so he can use both hands to climb like an expert (climb 15)... an awkward expert, because that was a terrible roll before his mods. Once he's on the counter, he pours the eggs into the pan without spilling so much as a drop. (dex 22) He's a professional okay. And insanely good with his hands.]

And makin' sure the goons runnin' the joint don't take anything out on 'em. Some of 'em are in bad shape.

[And most of them don't have his will. He's a mess and he's been through all this before. He can't imagine the ones who don't have it hardwired into their genetically augmented brains that this is precisely what they deserve.]

[ bacon bacon bacon. she stirs the eggs idly with the same spatula as they gently cook. ]

I'm under the impression that all the guards are as culpable as the Prime Minister. Are there ones that are relatively in the dark? [ kali is a-okay with murdering people she has been told deserve it by someone who knows more than her (so easily malleable), but she is less so with innocent guards who are under the impression that they're not doing anything wrong, just being soldiers. not everyone can know about the torture and ickiness, right? ]

There's always blood on the floor. If they're in the dark, it's 'cause they don't wanna know, which makes 'em just as bad. [Intentional ignorance is almost worse then the powertripping ones or the ones who do the job and don't even flinch. Rocket's got no sympathy for any of them.]

What if they're young? A ten year old would see no issue with the Prime Minister coming to power, they would be raised in a society of ignorance -- the way the rest of the world perceives Andres. An eighteen year old soldier could know nothing, have only joined the Andresian army to serve their country the way countless teenagers do across the world. Teenagers don't know they can say no, scared teenagers wouldn't even if they realized the could. Teenagers that join the army to support their families.

[ kali was made in this world, she knows the history. andres was one of the more recent coups. she was barely eleven when it happened, a few months shy of twenty two now. she's witnessed the depth of ignorance the world has had toward andres. (knowledge: history and also current events tbh 20 total) she also has worked with human troops. human teenagers who haven't seen the horrors of war or gitmo and have this idealized version of serving their country.

she doesn't want to kill kids like that. and she wants rocket to think about kids trike that. they're as much victims. in a different way. she sees the world as very black and white. this is one of the things that she sees in grey. ]

[Rocket considers this. He never thought of any of the soldiers outside the prison- all he saw were the ones in it or the ones who hauled him off that way. And those ones made the guards at the Kyln look like Nova Corps' finest.]

I dunno. [He glances down where underneath his jumpsuit is a mess of horrific surgical scars.] Maybe elsewhere, but they sent the baddest of the bad to where I was. I don't think anyone else could stomach what goes on in that place.

[ she nods, mulling this over. ]

We need plates.

Right. [Look at him manage awesome dexterity to finagle some plates down. (dex 18) Just imagine what would happen if all raccoons were genetically augmented freaks.]

[ all silver drawers will be liberated. once she has the plates, she slides the bacon and eggs on to them. great culinary success!! ] Here you go. Where do you want to sit? Here or in the dining room?
