There are plenty of missions that return to the castle a success - most of them, even. The defeated air of the solemn group that returns from their diplomatic mission to Andres Isle to hear the demands of dictator Dimitris Sarandis makes it quite clear that this wasn't one of those.

Starting with Sarandis' actual demands - for all Knights to withdraw from Andres under penalty of death, or for Wynn to offer his own head in return for Thomas' safe return - and ending with the unexpected, disturbing confession from Kat that she intended to stay behind on the island because she had "fallen in love with" the dictator, the events of the island made it very clear that Sarandis was cannily playing his hand to get the Knights where he wanted them.

Fred Jr. shoves open the doors with his unnatural strength, stalking in ahead of the group into the lobby. Whoever's on desk duty isn't going to have to roll a high wisdom check to see that these people are pissed... and distraught... and a myriad of other emotions on the bad end of the scale.

*I am changing the date of the briefing log and Andres log/live session to have taken place in September, to avoid us being in backdated hell forever, and to allow for a September squiring ceremony before apps are closed. Carry on... in the future!

[Congrats, Des! You get to see a full spread of Helen's weapons. Her Excalibur pistol is there of course, along with a few smaller fun options, and a whole lot of knives, a taser, and a night stick/billy club. The doctor is fucking in. She's giving everything a once over before she packs it, but as she hears him, she glances up and smiles in a distracted sort of way.]

You didn't think I would leave you out there without proper supervision, did you?

[Castle Greyskull is failboat territory. He glances at the weapons.] You look like you're hunting for bear.

Everyone has their rituals. [She picks up one of her knives, examining it before placing it to the side.] I prefer to be as prepared as possible in the face of battle. As we discussed, while my lifespan is extended indefinitely, I am able to die just as easily as the next person.

[Well, maybe not just as easily. She's very good in the field.]

You worried about that?

[he leans on the wall, eying her curiously.] Dying, I mean.

Shouldn't I be? While I have the utmost faith in Wynn, there's no way of knowing what we'll face on Andres. No war is won without casualty on both sides. Going into battle without the fear of death is nearly the same as going in blindfolded. I value my life very much and do intend to keep tight hold of it.

Yeah. [he nods somberly.] There's gonna be a lot of dining in Hell after this and their buffets ain't that great.

[he runs a hand through his hair.] I'm new to the whole concept of fearing death. I used to crave it. Now I just sit back and wonder if there's something to the timing of all this- me taking this case, my curse breaking, coming this close to the end of the line...

[a laugh.] And I'm still going in with one pistol and my wits.

There very well may be. Divine intervention at its finest. [She give a laugh, dark though it may be to laugh about.]

Here. [She picks up a knife and hands it to him.]

In case your bullets- and your wit run out.

Do me a favor- don't call it divine anything. [He stares at her and then reaches out to take the knife.]

You're a good dame, Peaches. [He turns it over in his hands.] Try to walk out of this in one piece, all right?

I will, but you'd better do the same. [Her smile this time is softer, more genuine as her concern overtakes any cynical humor.]

I think there's quite a bit of life left in you, Mr. Descant.
