There are plenty of missions that return to the castle a success - most of them, even. The defeated air of the solemn group that returns from their diplomatic mission to Andres Isle to hear the demands of dictator Dimitris Sarandis makes it quite clear that this wasn't one of those.

Starting with Sarandis' actual demands - for all Knights to withdraw from Andres under penalty of death, or for Wynn to offer his own head in return for Thomas' safe return - and ending with the unexpected, disturbing confession from Kat that she intended to stay behind on the island because she had "fallen in love with" the dictator, the events of the island made it very clear that Sarandis was cannily playing his hand to get the Knights where he wanted them.

Fred Jr. shoves open the doors with his unnatural strength, stalking in ahead of the group into the lobby. Whoever's on desk duty isn't going to have to roll a high wisdom check to see that these people are pissed... and distraught... and a myriad of other emotions on the bad end of the scale.

*I am changing the date of the briefing log and Andres log/live session to have taken place in September, to avoid us being in backdated hell forever, and to allow for a September squiring ceremony before apps are closed. Carry on... in the future!

Hey kid.

[ it doesn't matter to him that she is far from the little girl he remembered getting into trouble and gossiping about boys with lucy when she slept over, letting his mom braid her hair to get it out of her face. he pauses in the doorway to look at her and it doesn't take much effort to see her when she was sixteen.

felicity is the closest thing he has to family anymore. malina is some sort of weird extension of his soul, his soulmate if either of them found that remotely attractive, but felicity has always been closer to a little sister and when lucy died, gus selfishly put her in that position and she hasn't ever left it, making a home for herself there as felicity instead of "lucy's little friend".

he hates that she's become a knight. he hates that she's in danger and does dangerous things. he hates that he couldn't stop her or protect her, even knowing she is beyond capable of protecting herself. he can't help it. she's his baby.

moving forward, he gathers her in a hug, kissing the top of her head. ]

[Falling into that little sister position was all too easy when that was what it felt like. Lucy was one of the first tastes of that typical American family she hadn't had in so long and when she died and Gus pulled her into her place, she didn't fight it, just let him fill that role for her when she had lost hers so long ago. They filled the gaps in the things they were missing with each other and neither of them have ever regretted it.

Until probably right now.

Because right now they're too close. To lose one would be like losing an extension of themselves and they can't go through that loss again. But they're going to do it anyway, because that is the job they signed up for. That is the job they love. And she knows that he knows that.

She lets herself be pulled into the hug, taking a deep breath before resting her chin against his shoulder, closing her eyes and sinking into the hold. One last time. They can have this one last time before all the potential ones after it become question marks, and they'll have it again when they come back.

Because they will come back.]

Hey.

[ he holds her tightly a bit longer before releasing her, smoothing her hair down and letting his palm drift to her cheek a moment. his arm falls back to his side dismally. ]

Malina's coming. [ ...surprise? ...i forgot to mention my other half is a knight too. WHOOPS. ]

[ .... There's a pause as she pulls back just enough to give him a look at that. She considers for a moment, before shaking her head.]

You know what? I'm honestly not surprised. How is she, anyway?

Pissed. She's spent the last six months or so chasing a fucking yeti or some shit and she's coming home to this. If she murders the person with the window seat on her flight I wouldn't be surprised.

[She laughs a bit at that.]

Let's hope it doesn't come to that - I doubt the last thing Wynn needs right now is to tangle with airport security after they arrest her.

But.. entertainment value...
