There are plenty of missions that return to the castle a success - most of them, even. The defeated air of the solemn group that returns from their diplomatic mission to Andres Isle to hear the demands of dictator Dimitris Sarandis makes it quite clear that this wasn't one of those.

Starting with Sarandis' actual demands - for all Knights to withdraw from Andres under penalty of death, or for Wynn to offer his own head in return for Thomas' safe return - and ending with the unexpected, disturbing confession from Kat that she intended to stay behind on the island because she had "fallen in love with" the dictator, the events of the island made it very clear that Sarandis was cannily playing his hand to get the Knights where he wanted them.

Fred Jr. shoves open the doors with his unnatural strength, stalking in ahead of the group into the lobby. Whoever's on desk duty isn't going to have to roll a high wisdom check to see that these people are pissed... and distraught... and a myriad of other emotions on the bad end of the scale.

*I am changing the date of the briefing log and Andres log/live session to have taken place in September, to avoid us being in backdated hell forever, and to allow for a September squiring ceremony before apps are closed. Carry on... in the future!

Wynnefalshond, gods bless him, has his moments of being, how should we say - a bit dramatic about these things. It's one battle, not a proper war.

Not worrying at all leads one to overconfidence, and then one makes foolish mistakes. I'd say I'm just worried enough.

I'm definitely on the 'too worried' side of things. I just don't really know how helpful I can be out there. But I want to help. I need to.

Do you doubt your ability to help others on any other mission you may be assigned to?

No, I mean... I guess I just figured it would be something smaller for the first one.

The overall scale may seem larger, but the task you are assigned will be no more than what you would expect to see on any other mission.

Divide and conquer. That sort of thing. [He was actually kind of imagining them all barreling in as one army, so this makes him feel a little better at least.]

We're not soldiers, Stiles. Wynn does not treat us as such.

I know, or-- I assumed. It's just... I mean it's war. Soldiers go to war.

A single battle is not a war. Wynn only used the word to impress a sense of levity on you all - which certainly has worked.

I guess I just wanted to get your thoughts on the whole thing.

My thoughts are that this operation is perhaps long overdue, although I certainly don't fault Wynn waiting for the opportune moment to strike. While it will certainly be one of the most dangerous undertakings that our Knighthood has done en masse, I expect Wynn will not assign anyone to a mission that is not well within their capabilities - yourself included. I think this is a perfect opportunity for you to see what we do, and why we do it.

[Stiles seems to take all of that in and take it to heart, nodding and looking a little more calm this time around.]

[ he smiles at that ] But of course. Have you given any thought to what sect you may desire to join?

My inside source on the knighthood says your sect is actually one I should look into. [He takes a moment to smile and shakes his head.] Francesca. She said I should think about the Tongue. I guess my constant sarcasm is potentially good for something.

That was her suggestion to me, as well. Is that what you think, however?

I think the process of elimination makes the decision for me. I'm not a natural fighter. I'm not a healer. I'm learning some magic, but I don't think it'll be more than just a hobby.

[He realizes about halfway through that he's not really... making it sound like he wants the Tongue. Just that the others don't make sense.]

I'm good at talking myself into and out of situations. Or getting people to help me out with things- either because they agree with me or find me too pathetic to turn down. That's basically what went down in Argentina.

And do you have an interest in other cultures as well? Being a member of our sect involves being able to communicate with a great deal of people who see the world differently than you do.

Sure. [He's 16 so he's not entirely firm on that. But it does come along with a nod.]
