The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[ with her 13 disguise, lis'sa looks good without standing out in the crowd. her reptilian eyes sweep the new squires as she evaluates them over the rim of her glass. ]

[ Henry's looking pretty decent with his disguise check of 18. Considering he's never really dressed up before, he's feeling good. It's a confidence boost. With a guileless smile, he approaches the young woman standing not far from him, a drink in his own hand. ]

Been to a lot of these parties before?

Thousands. [ the delivery is so dry that it's 100% impossible to tell whether she's joking or not. ]

[ Hmmm. Hard to tell. ] Never gets boring?

The scintillating conversation keeps the three thousandth as fresh as the first. [ ok now it's clear she's probably at least... making a joke. ] Section Heads are required to attend. I don't have much of a choice.

Oh, so you don't have a choice.

[ He cracks a smile at the scintillating conversation remark, and then just...goes for it: ]

Nice weather we've been having lately.

[ He keeps his tone light, a slight curve to his lips so she knows he's joking, he just...had to go with that boring conversation starter, given what she'd said. Whether or not he gets a smirk or a disinterested eyeroll remains to be seen, of course. ]

[ maybe a little bit of both, honestly ] I suppose that beats what most squires try to pass off as small talk.

[ At least not a complete failure, then. ]

So I'm doing something right. I promise I can come up with a more interesting topic than that, though.

Have you been with the Knights for a long time?

Over a century. Would you consider that a long time?

Wow. That's impressive. So when you said you'd been to thousands of these, that wasn't an exaggeration.

I'm not sure what there'd be to gain from an exaggeration.

[ His eyes flicker to her glass, assuming that might be one way. He's new to the drinking thing, but it seems to be an easy way to get through stuff like this. ]

[riddick is looking surprisingly nice with a 13 disguise check himself as he approaches lis'sa, taking a sip from his own glass.]

[ she actually smirks a little when he approaches. which is like a huge smile on anyone else, ok ] You clean up well.

[he'll take the smirk he knows it is huge for her! he grins at the compliment, cuz damn straight she just complimented him. she was looking pretty smoking too, and he wasn't afraid of saying so.]

[Riddick is not a social man, he is not the kind to party, or to enjoy parties, or the things you do at parties. But something seems to have gotten into him tonight, something almost carefree. The presence of a pretty lady sure seemed to help.]

Dance with me. I'll take your mind off the monotony.

You know how to dance?

There's only one way to find out, now isn't there? [ he holds out his arm expectantly ]

[ squinnnnnt but ok fine, you win. she sets down her glass and takes his arm with a delicate casualness, and lets him lead her out there without another word. ]

[He takes her hand with a smirk of his own, leading her out to the middle of the floor, then turning and wrapping her hand in one of his larger ones, his other coming to rest on the small of her back.

It has to be said that Riddick does not know how to dance. He has never danced before in his entire life, has never cared to learn, and doesn't care about how he looks. But boy is he still smooth on his feet as he lets himself give in to the music and the feel of Lis'sa's body against his own (Dex:19). It may not be a traditional kind of dance that he leads her through, but it sure is sexy as hell, and he seems to be enjoying himself.]

[ she, on the other hand, has no idea what she's doing, and has too much difficulty both letting herself go with the flow and letting him lead to do much more than bump ungracefully into him, her movements too stiff with her check of ... 4 ]
