The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

Killian Jones. Or Captain Hook. [He takes Henry's hand, waving the hook in the air.] Yes, that Captain Hook. But don't believe everything you read about me.

Oh, I won't. I know more than most people, probably.

[ Should he? Shouldn't he? ]

We actually...know each other. Or, I know you, I mean. From Storybrooke. I guess the Veil did something to your memories?

So...maybe you don't even remember Storybrooke?

[unhand]

Emma's Henry? [Hook's eyes widen, and he takes a step back. He won't even touch the question of memories for now. This is too big.] Can it be?

[ His lips just curve up slightly in a half-smile. ]

Surprise.

I went through the Veil a while ago, I was...thirteen.

[unhand]

[Hook nods slowly, still staring at Henry like he's having trouble accepting it.]

I never made it to Storybrooke. The portal took me here instead, though thankfully, Cora seems not to have followed. [A beat. How much should he tell the boy? Well, he'll find out his mother is here soon enough. There's hardly any point in keeping that from him.] The same happened to Emma.

[ Henry might beat him to it, though. ]

I remember a lot more than you, then.

I met Belle. Makes me wonder if I'll ever see my family here.

[unhand]

That's what I'm saying, lad. Emma is here. She's off on a mission, but she'll return to us soon enough.

[A beat. Hook grimaces, glancing away.]

There's only one problem.

[ He takes a deep breath, because truth be told, he hasn't imagined they'd have a happy, perfect reunion. He knows all too well what the Veil can do. But he's at least prepared for this, not surprised by hearing Emma's name. ]

I heard she was here. Not here right at the moment, but with the Knights. Just...the rest of my family - Regina and my grandparents, other people from Storybrooke. It'd be nice to see them all, it's been...so long.

[ He looks a little worried about whatever Hook's about to tell him. ] I was trying to figure out what I'd say when I saw her, but I'm guessing whatever you're about to tell me isn't good.

[unhand]

She doesn't remember you. [Hook looks sympathetic, at least. This certainly isn't how he imagined his first conversation with his squire would go.] She remembers that she has a son, that she gave him up for adoption, but not ever meeting him again. I told her your name, that you exist, but...

[He shakes his head.]

All I know is the precious little she told me back in the Enchanted Forest. It'll be up to you to fill in the rest.

[ Okay, it's at least not...quite as bad as it could be. It's disheartening, though, to think of all the memories they built together, and that she doesn't recall any of them. And she never will. ]

I don't wanna...overwhelm her the first time I get to see her again, but...God, I really wanna see her again.

[unhand]

You will. Soon as she returns, I'll introduce you. [He gives Henry a slim smile.] She would have done anything to get back to you when she had all her memories. She needs to meet you. Overwhelming or no.

[ It's some sort of comfort, though. It really helps having Hook here. ] I never thought I'd see her again, so even if it takes some time to get close, I'm just glad she's here.

[unhand]

That makes two of us. [Their lives might have been simpler if they hadn't ended up in this strange world. Emma's father, for instance, might not be in exile. But he can't really bring himself to regret where things have gone. Especially now that Emma's son is here too. She'll have her family. Even if she doesn't remember it.]

Do you have magic like your mother?

Sort of. I haven't...tried to use it much.

[ For obvious reasons. He's never been big on magic, though as he's aged, he sees the benefit in it, at least. ]

You really care a lot about her, are you guys...?

[ It's obvious in the things he's said, at least to Henry. ]

[unhand]

[Oh, boy, that's the question he had not ever expected to have to discuss with Emma's son.]

...it's complicated. No. We're simply friends.

[For now. When Emma finds a way to get her father back, he hopes it'll change.]

[ Complicated says it all, but he doesn't want to get off on the wrong foot by prodding too much. Seems like nothing's really come of it yet, anyway. ]

All I've ever wanted for her was happiness.

So as long as you make her happy, whatever you guys are, then...I'm happy.

[unhand]

Whatever we... [He frowns.] What do you think we are?

[ His eyes narrow just slightly, because he's curious. ]

Complicated usually means there's some gray area. Like, you're sort of friends, but not really, and maybe want to be more. But I could be completely wrong.

[unhand]

[He's not wrong.] It's her father. David. He's... well, he's the complicated bit.

[ Slow blink. ]

He's here, too?

How is he complicating things?

[ He guesses it's just the fact that this is Captain Hook, and Henry knows his gramps. Of course he'll be protective. ]

[unhand]

There was... a very powerful love curse. Not on him. But until we break it... he can't be here. Around the lass that was cursed. [Hook grimaces.] She doesn't even realize she's cursed.

[ Henry's face falls when he hears that. ]

Oh, no...

[ He draws in a long, slow breath. ]

We'll get him back, we'll see each other again.

[ But then... ]

How's mom been coping with that?

[unhand]

She's all right. [Sort of. She's using it as an excuse to not see Hook romantically, and she clearly misses him even if he doesn't remember Emma as his daughter anymore than Emma remembers Henry, but she's... all right. As close as can be expected.]

The mission she's off on now. She thinks it may be able to help break the curse.

[wanttobeahero]

[ He nods along as he listens. This is a good thing; she knows what she's doing, she'll be safe, and she'll find a way to fix this. And he'll help. ]

It'll work. Even if this mission isn't completely successful, we'll find a way to break the curse, I know it. She has me to help now.

[ He smiles softly. And that's not to discount Hook's involvement, but...it's his mom. ]

You've changed a lot, although the last time I saw you was before I was taken to Neverland.

[unhand]

You were taken to Neverland? [That's even more alarming than the fact that Emma's son has somehow seen Hook before when Hook's never seen him. Neverland is awful.]
