The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[Hook briefly tries to calculate the dollars to gold conversion rate and gives up. It's a lot of dollars. He's pretty sure he's still come across enough gold and jewels to equal it.]

Does it work as the name implies?

No. It doesn't bring people back to life, it just stops them from being killed, supposedly.

I take it you haven't tested it, then?

It's a supposedly magic diamond, what do you expect me to do, shoot myself in the face and hope that there are no bullets at the last second? [ which is, actually, how the diamond works, lila just thinks it's crap. ] Do I strike you as particularly suicidal?

You have trouble sleeping and use the powers that make you have trouble sleeping without hesitation. I'm not certain I'd count it out.

[bittersweeter]

I wouldn't sleep anyway. That doesn't just go away if I stop working people. [ lips thinning into a line, she rolls her eyes slightly. like jfc if she could sleep, she would. if it was as easy as not using her curse work, she wouldn't use it. she's really sick of people assuming she's too dumb to get a good night's sleep. ] Did you want something in particular?

[unhand]

[He rolls his eyes. He'd been more poking fun than judging her, but it seems like he hit a sore spot.] Come now, lass. Don't be like that.

[bittersweeter]

Fine. [ she softens some, but yes, he hit a sore spot. and yet she is begrudgingly giving in. ] Not being like that.

[unhand]

[The tip of his mouth quirks up.] I hope your little rock works. And even more that you never have cause to learn for sure if it does or not.

[bittersweeter]

That's the plan. [ she fidgets uncomfortably, eyes drifting to her watch to check the time before swiping her finger across her phone so see if she has any texts. from faye. still silence. damn it. ]

[unhand]

[Hook glances down as she fidgets with her phone.] Waiting for a call?

[bittersweeter]

Faye. [ that should explain everything, honestly. ]

[unhand]

Still no word, then? [Hook hasn't heard anything from Emma either, but he isn't that worried. He certainly wouldn't be texting during a mission himself.] Doubtless she's very busy.

[bittersweeter]

She wouldn't ignore me. [ especially not after they had that huge fight after scotland because lila couldn't text her from the horrible underground cavern. and she knows that is a reality, that faye isn't in any place to actually text her. but it's been two months. lila was in scotland for maybe five days altogether, tops. TWO MONTHS IS A LONG TIME TO GO WITHOUT YOUR BEST FRIEND. she has every right to worry. especially so when hasmed is like "no y'all, they're fine, don't worry, i got this." lila doesn't trust hasmed. ]

[unhand]

Perhaps her phone is broken, then. Or in one of those spots where they don't work. [He gives her a small smile, partly to hide his own fear.] She's with Emma. Emma wouldn't let anything happen to her.

[Unless something's happened to Emma. Hook swallows that thought. It hasn't been that long. Many missions go on far longer than this, even. He can't worry about that. If he worries about that, he'll be taking his ship and leaving for Germany without a moment's hesitation. So they're fine. They have to be.]

[bittersweeter]

[ lila shrugs and turns back to her drink. solid a for effort, but lila isn't going to stop worrying until she knows something. the only reason she hasn't hopped a plane to germany is because no one was stupid enough to tell lila where, specifically, in germany they'd gone. ]

[unhand]

Where I come from, this'd be considered a short journey, you know. Not many interesting places you can go to in less than a month's travel by ship or horse.

[They may have airplanes now, but... it does make him think about time differently. Crossing oceans in a matter of hours is still absurdly fast to him.]

[bittersweeter]

Well, we're in the real world, where they have airplanes and cars. Go figure.

[unhand]

I know. But there have been plenty of missions that went on longer than this. If they needed help, they'd find a way to let us know.

[Or they'd... be shot forward in time so that right now they don't even exist I guess? HOW DOES THAT WORK....]

[bittersweeter]

[ or they're dead in a ditch somewhere with no way to let anyone know. hook is not a teenage girl in the real world, his brain does not immediately jump to the worst things that can befall women in danger. even without that, lila was a cat for three years and couldn't tell anyone she needed help. she looks at hook like don't patronize me. ] There has been one mission in recent memory that's gone on longer than this and if you hadn't noticed? People keep dying on that one.

[unhand]

One death. [Which is more than an acceptable amount, but as far as knights go, only Luthir has died. Failing to protect a civilian is sad, but it's not the same thing.]

There's nothing we can do, love. And Emma'd said it might be a long time. But Emma and Faye are survivors. They'll make it through. [He tries to look encouraging, but doesn't entirely succeed. His pep talk would work a lot better if he weren't a lot more worried than he's trying to let on.] With all good fortune, they'll return with a cure for Amara before long and we'll feel silly for worrying so much.

[bittersweeter]

[ she crit failed her will save so he could have been talking complete nonsense and she still would have wanted to believe him, expression turning, for once, desperate for reassurance. she doesn't say anything, jerkily nodding before she licks her lips and reaches for her drink. ]
