Arrival in the city involved picking up any weapons or equipment that they had sent to meet them here and moving into their oh-so-fancy hotel rooms on the top floor. It consists of four adjoining rooms with a shared living room space and kitchenette. Each bedroom has two separate beds and roomies are:

Buffy & Myri
Martha & Dumage
Spike & Sven

Mark's agreed to sleep on the couch, since there aren't any spaces with five separate adjoining rooms available.

Gar's new job will begin on Monday, which gives the Knights the weekend to explore the city if they like, do research on the Hoffman Institute, scope out the Institute's campus, set up surveillance plans, or otherwise unwind before the real work starts. Feel free to start threads for anything, and use subject lines to denote which day it occurs on! Also don't be afraid to jack multiple people into threads, as now is a great time for some TEAM BUILDING 8) ... Try not to kill each other, in other words.]

[~~there was totally a list~~ Gar blinks, obviously trying to process that description, but then a smile breaks across her face, and she sounds like she's trying not to laugh] Do you mean... romance novels?

Yeah, bodice-rippers or whatever. Though I have to say, I was really hoping one would be about Wynn and the cover would have a picture of Fabio in a silver wig or something. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure anything remotely pornographic that featured Wynn, even fictionalised, would be. Um. Scary? Or possibly just bad, I'm not sure. Like one of those stereotypical plots about the cold-hearted leader of the Knights who's never been able to get close to women because of some horrible tragedy his beloved suffered when he was younger and...the curvy and fiery-tempered recruit who melted his heart.

[Oh god she's blushing SO MUCH right now, you have no idea.]

My sister and I used to read trashy romance novels when we were teenagers. [Clearly this is her explanation that is like 'please do not think less of me for reading this crap, Gar'.]

[Slowly, horror dawns across Gar's face, the smile melting away at the imagery presented]

I... I hardly think anyone should want to read-- [oh god, she tries not to just turn entirely scarlet] Are you-- are you talking about the novels by Daphne Woodlark?

[Martha checks the book she has with her, which...yes, has a cover with a naked man with a sword slung across his back kissing a woman who is...equally unclad, though all naughty bits are obviously hidden.]

Yeah. [She pauses and looks at the cover again.] Why would anybody have a sword on while they're naked?

[Ok, yeah, now she's bright red. She looks down, clearing her throat] From what I've heard, those books were written by a past member of the Knighthood who passed them off as fiction. [She quickly adds:] The setting as fiction, that is. Not the... stories... which are obviously... not true.

[All the blushing going on up in here. She really should've asked Kat about the books instead.] A past member of the Knighthood? What, did she get kicked out for shagging a Dragon's Claw?

[Somehow she only seems more flustered by that comment, eyes sweeping down to the floor and the blush crawling to her neck] As far as I know, that's never ... h-happened, no. It's just a story. A rather... poorly written story if you ask -- [And then seems to realize that is admitting a little more than she wanted to and she clamps her mouth shut]

I think that's probably a given, even if you haven't read it. [It's okay to admit you've read it, Gar. Martha won't judge you as long as you don't judge her.] I mean, just judging the book by its cover and everything. And the other...gazillion books. [All of which she has in her luggage.] So there's no secret salacious side to the Knights or anything?

N-no. Not as... such. [Her voice grows quite small and she busies herself with arranging her own books in a neat pile on her desk] I suppose we have our own scandals, just as anyone. But the Dragon's Claws are the [she clears her throat] the epitome of nobility, they'd never... [And then she seems too embarrassed to go on]

Well, they're still people, I expect they have, you know, feelings, just like the rest of us. But I'm new here, what do I know? Maybe Wynn has them surgically removed when they get promoted. [Or castrated, but she's NOT GOING TO ACTUALLY SAY THAT, lest they both die of embarrassment.] Actually, now that I think about it, you didn't really mention the Dragon's Claws at all, so I've no idea what they're like. [She's not accusing Gar, just pointing this fact out.]

And what did Daphne get kicked out for, anyway?

Did I...? I must have... forgotten. As for feelings, well I-I-I expect they do, yes. [She tries to reign in her stammer, focusing on the completed stack of books] ... Have them, that is, not have them removed.

[Annnnd thank God, a change of subject, that she will eagerly latch onto] I've not heard why she left though it's possible she did so of her own accord. Or perhaps Wynn wasn't too pleased when she spilled secrets of our organization into print... even if she used pseudonyms and claimed it was fiction.

[It's okay, Gar, you can admit to your secret lesbian relationship with Kat, Martha won't judge. You're not a Dragon's Claw, so it's clearly permissible. UNLESS DAPHNE DECIDES TO WRITE ABOUT YOU.] So what's so wrong with them having relationships with other Knights?

Or maybe Wynn fell in love with her and was forced to choose between her and the Knights. [Martha smirks at Gar, who, given her fail!sense of humour, will probably not appreciate this as much as she ought to.] I'm just kidding, Gar, that's ridiculous and doesn't make any sense, I know. Plus Wynn doesn't seem like the type to fall in love with anybody.

I... h-hardly think Wynn's the type, no. But I suppose anything is possible. [She'd just rather not know about it. She nervously twines a piece of hair around and around her finger]

The way Wynn sees it, the Dragon's Claws need to put their loyalty to the Knighthood above all personal concerns. There's an inherent danger in their splitting their focus, therefore, by the sort of investment... personal relationships can bring. Families, et cetera.
