[ It seems that Wynn was hoping for Sir Mark Sandazhard to reveal his true identity, and to lead the charge against Dimitris Sarandis' tyrannical hold over the island he was born to rule.   He was not disappointed, and Prince Marcus Andres stands poised to lead the group of Knights who he's worked beside for two years, to confront Sarandis, save their friend Kat, and search the castle dungeon for the captive Dragon's Claw, Sir Thomas Bancroft.    

Before they attempt to answer the castle, however, it's time to reunite the Prince with his childhood friends on the Isle, who had long held out hope that he was still alive, including his once-betrothed, Countess Lara Tamon.  Their first task will be to convince Lara to make a risky attempt to draw Kat out of the castle.  

The fate of their captured allies, and the future of Andres Isle, lie in their hands.  ]

I can... feel its mind. [ faith looks a little disturbed by the fact, but it's clear that it at least tells her where the fuck the things are at. she focuses on the first one, to the left, and tries to psychically crush it, but its will save is massive (30). she does, however, boost the spell to add more damage dice to the mental attack (32 dmg) ]

[ jack sure missed you fellas. he goes for the one on the left as well, and charges it with his +1 from fiona and +4 from wynn, smiting it (atk 38, dmg 21), all of which seems to be effective, backed with the holy power of the blow. ]

The hell are we supposed to do against these things?! [ fred asks the important questions. the guard that they were assaulting on the left slams two rock-like fists into jack (atk 40 and atk 25; 31 total regular dmg plus 6 fire damage). fred uses his hasted speed to get to the thing as well, and usually clangs his sword against it (atk 26+4+1=31) ... which doesn't work, because it's not flat-footed anymore a bloo bloo.

the other creature lumbers forward 30 feet, and opens its maw, expelling a cone of fire that catches faith and fiona: ref 24+ to halve 21 dmg and avoid being slowed - which in this case, would just cancel out their haste spell. faith doesn't have much hope to avoid it, what with BEING BLIND AND ALL, cry. ]

[ I wrote this super serious tag and then forgot to roll for balance. ARTHUR DOESN'T FALL OVER. I know everyone was on the edge of their seats for that one. ]

[ in more current news, arthur is apparently the only one with no trepidation about the impossibly huge creatures, because he probably has a death wish. ]

Just keep them occupied!

[ he tells fred jr. but despite his exuberance and the haste he makes to attack the nearest creature, he still isn't quite up to the task — he's likely to blame the circumstances rather than his sword arm, but that swing doesn't cut it. (atk 14) or cut anything, probably. (dmg 7 just in case #optimism). maybe he's planning on occupying them by being repeatedly brutalized, who knows. ]

[While erryone focuses on lefty-chan, Alcide decides to head for righty-kun to (hopefully) keep it distracted enough that it doesn't roll up and start smashing bitches into the ground while they're focused on its counterpart. He will just be over here barking up a storm to make himself seem like a better target, and attempt to bite it if he can get close enough (attack 25[+4+1]=30, damage 13[+4]=17), but that bitch is too big to even attempt to trip ok.]

[ arthur and alcide both find themselves stymied by the tough rock that makes up the creature's 'skin'. wynn raises his hand as if to cast a spell, but stops himself when alcide approaches the second ember guard, clearly not wanting whatever he intended to do to catch the werewolf by mistake. instead, he joins alcide, using his extra hasted speed to flank the creature, to lower its defense by 2 for them. with all the bonuses, his attack is a 50, which strikes a crack in the thing's side, for 23 damage. ]

[ with a reflex save of 27 and evasion, fiona manages to dodge the attack completely, rolling back behind faith before realizing her friend doesn't have the wherewithal to avoid any of the fire blasted their way.

she watches in horror as the flames scorch her allies, and with renewed determination strides forward again, placing herself between the large creatures and faith. there's a visible spark of anger behind her eyes as she raises her arms, silently conjuring a tangible cloud of magical energy around her. the dazzling, crackling fog rapidly envelops her entire form, completely obscuring the transformation transpiring within. the result, however, is difficult to miss, as a gust of strong, inexplicable wind rushes over the area, dispelling the cloud as quickly as it had appeared. in it's place now hovers a ten foot tall djinni, still quite recognizable as fiona, although much more intimidating in size and demeanor.

she appears to be composed of mere air, though somehow not transparent, and the bands around her wrists glow bright, pulsating as ripples of magical energy surge through and around her. she raises her head, eyes opening to reveal vivid purple irises firmly focused on the enemy before them, and alight with unmitigated rage. ]

[...this is so far out of Jaime's element he doesn't even know where to start. The glowing purple girl, the gigantic horrible monsters... all while he's still trying not to process the whole Lan's a werewolf bit.

He knew about magic. He'd gotten used to that long before. But this is insanity.

There's only one response he knows, though, and that's to rush headlong into danger. He's just pretty sure that a more intelligent man would turn craven and run right about now.

Instead he lowers his sword and charges towards the creature on the right (took 2 action points to get there but atk 27, dmg 26) with his sexy good aligned blade.]

[ faith's clothes are scorched, her skin burnt, as she watches her friend turn into her djinn form with wide eyes. it's one thing to know it, but another thing to see it. however, the sight seems to simply give her heart despite her extensive injuries. while jaime's sword hits with massive resistance from the rocky creature he attacks, she makes another crushing psychic attack at the one on the left, funneling tons of power points into it, drawing on a significant amount of her psionic reserve (27 power points) with a wordless roar. it makes its will save, but still takes 60 damage from the debilitating attack, which seems to substantially weaken it. ]

[Like Jaime, Klaus is a little taken aback by the scene that they roll up on, but he doesn't hesitate to ditch the gun he'd been using and jump into the fray. He moves toward the creature on the left because he's nothing if not an opportunist, and it seems to be taking the brunt of the resistance thus far.

What he hadn't been counting on was for said creature to be so resilient despite its weakened state, but what do you expect when you attempt to drive your fist through what is basically solid rock I guess (attack 34, damage 14).]

sob, while klaus' attack actually manages to hit the thing successfully, his non-good aligned fist... can't do much to it. :( it's at least flanked, which takes its ac down for other people.

instead of going for stabbing it again, jack decides to go all out, and reaches out with one hand to lay a palm on the thing's side (touch attack 46). a bright white light shudders out from his hand, as he casts the full weight of his divine touch ability into the thing - about 100 damage, all good-aligned.

light fills the molten cracks of the creature, replacing the lava lines with brilliant energy, and the entire thing quakes violently - and then explodes in a radius wide enough to catch everyone in melee with it, as well as fiona for 12 bludgeoning damage and 10 fire damage (arthur loses 10 from each hit separately). a fort save of 24+ can halve the damage, which both wynn and jack make. fred, however, fails miserably and takes all that damage.

the remaining ember guard slams one fist down into alcide, and the other at jaime (atk 41; dmg 17+2 fire for the wolf; atk 28; dmg 11+4 fire for jaime). some of the cracks in its side begin sealing closed as it heals itself naturally. ]

['Sup, Mr. C! Faith isn't really shocked by much these days, but she does take notice of the light show going on. Mostly, she's just been watching the attacks and trying to sort out who is doing what and how it's working out for them. When the light show ends and everything blows toward her, she thankfully makes her fort save (+26) and is relieved that she got that boost of healing from Gus before the headed this way.

Taking a moment to make sure she still has all of her limbs (she does) and she had opted to decline the magic whammy that lan had been offering up. She's had too many old guys deciding to give her a magic bonus in her life and she just doesn't think she wants anything she doesn't understand. She approaches the remaining ember guard and pushes for her attack and hopefully puts everything she has into her fist slamming into the side of the thing (attack 24 ignore 2pts hardness | damage 18).]

[Sam will be perfectly content to stay back here and shoot his gun because holy crap those things are huge and suddenly there's a djinn and no thanks.

So he'll fire off two shots at the ember guard, one of which strikes true (atk 29 crit, dmg 26 & atk 17)]

[ bad news, sam, in that this thing has fortification against crits, and rolled its percentage chance to ignore the extra doubled dmg... so it just takes 13. D:

fred heads that way, but can't get a straight line to charge the other guard anymore, delivering a regular attack instead, that completely whiffs (atk 16) ]

ignoring the fantastic four cast off, gus moves forward and clasps lan on the shoulder again, casting resist energy: fire on his former mentor before he moves into the fray so he will be protected from a whooping 20 points of damage per strike for seventy minutes. which in combat time is roughly ten years.

[ O'Keefe looks to be in seriously bad shape, so Alanna is moving up behind her to cast cure serious wounds on her. +26 hp! ]

[ Fiona's transformation from sweet-looking young woman to the djinni-creature from a tale is hardly the most shocking thing Arthur's ever seen, but he's taken aback enough to spend a moment longer gawping than he really should. were he a lesser man he might be tempted to simply get out of her way. as it is he's close to doing more than simply cursing under his breath, however the arrival of the cavalry prove sufficient distraction. ]

[ any earlier reluctance at wynn's protection is stymied as are thurs barely feels the wash of rubble even as he flinches back from the sheer force of that explosion. (fort 28) but he simply moves to bring his sword to bear on the other. (atk 28 dmg 11)]

[Alcide lets out a yelp when the ember guard bears down on him with the fist of an angry god basically, but nothing is broken and he's quick to scramble right back toward the creature so that he can attempt another bite (attack 30[+4+1]=35, damage 25[+4]=29 [12 of that is penetration damage idk if this matters]). Apparently he's making up for that resistance he encountered the first time by tearing into the monstrosity that much harder this time around.]

[wynn]

[ wynn turns in the direction of the remaining ember guard, ready to raise his sword and join in the fray over there - when something catches his attention behind him. just as the driders seized the opportunity to rush past - driders he's dispatched christos and francesca to stop before they reach the castle - another creature is now charging by. it's hard to know what they're looking at at first: the creature stands about 9 feet tall, and looks like it weighs well over two tons, its body composed of a tough, transparent membrane in the shape of a humanoid. below the membranous tissue churns a swirling collection of toxic, oily chemicals, merging and separating at random. it wears no clothing, and lets off an acrid smell that fills the air as it trundles past at full speed, yelling in rage. wynn glances back to see that the back-up cavalry has arrived - and seems to come to a decision. he shouts his orders so that all can hear: ] Lanston, Jack, to me! The rest of you remain, and fell this creature! Do not allow it to pass! [ with that, he takes off after the chemical golem, sword in hand, following it towards the gates of the castle in the distance.

lan doesn't hesitate to follow, although he runs much more slowly behind wynn in his heavy armor, straining against the weariness of age and battle as he follows his leader's command. ]

[ fiona barely registers the blast as one of the ember guards explodes in defeat (fort 26 for half dmg), the destruction instead appearing to fuel her fury. she wills a blast of air beneath her, which propels her thirty feet into the air. from this vantage point she has direct line of sight to the beast, and extends an arm in its direction, her index finger outstretched to guide the spell true. magical energy visibly pulsates from her bindings, down her hand, and erupts in a 5-ft.-wide lightning bolt from her fingertip. the electricity instantly travels in a straight line from her to the ember guard, hammering viciously against its leaden flesh, and hopefully penetrating through (electricity dmg 32; dc 20 reflex save for half). ]

Fuck. [Jaime rarely curses outright, though he can certainly be crude. He's pretty sure getting crushed by a giant fist of lava is a good occasion for it. He reels his horse around and runs away strategically retreats, wheeling his horse around when he's far enough away to charge forth again once he's caught his breath again. He's bruised and battered, but his grip on his sword is tight and his expression determined.]

[ the ember guard pivots away from the arc of lightning with surprising agility, catching only some of it, which sparks across its rocky skin.

faith shoots alanna a grateful look, and says: ] Thanks. [ before focusing her attention on the ember guard again, funneling another massive store of power points into a brutal psychic crush attack for 63 dmg ]

[Klaus also makes his fort save against the exploding giant, so he's pulverized gently by the flying rubble as opposed to harshly I guess.

His fists ain't doing shit against the ember guards' hardened exterior tho, but he wasn't willing to risk his hands being blessed and possibly melted off or something since he's a vampire and he sure as fuck isn't going to chip a tooth trying to bite one of these things...

So he will just head over to punch the other one like he did the first. Klaus uses Slam! (attack 31, damage 16) It's not very effective...]

[ it does... a little damage ok. AT LEAST IT WAS A SUCCESSFUL HIT.

jack heads off after wynn and lan, while the ember guard continues to pound away at the little bugs underfoot. this time klaus gets one fist (atk 29, 24 dmg + 3 fire) and fred jr. the other (atk NAT TWENTY; 30 dmg + 6 fire dmg ow). fred staggers at the heavy blow, barely staying conscious ]

[So... her first attack didn't do anything, but at least she hasn't made herself into a target... yet. She'll just keep trying to land a hit ( attack 30 /ignore 2pts hardness / damage 20 ) with her fist moving to strike out one more time. It kinda reminds her of the Beast which makes her wonder if she can break off a piece of it to use that as a weapon. Of course, if she can't even get a hit in - what are the odds of breaking shit off of it?]
