[So, as September winds to an end, Wynn demands all those Knights on Andres take a break from toiling away to fix the Isle, and return to London to celebrate the new large batch of incoming squires. After the horrors of losing teammates, it seems fitting to celebrate what they can.

Failboat travels back in a private plane that Mark may have stolen from Dimitris' airfield. Sup. With everyone on board, however, he looks a little grim when they're in the air, and stands in the entranceway from the cockpit, looking out at them for a moment, before clearing his throat. ]

I've uh, got something to talk to you guys about.

[You know, there are some things that you just don't even think about or remember when you're in the middle of saving a country and trying not to die. But as soon as the words are out of Mark's mouth, Myri's eyes go wide.]

She-

[That's all she gets out before she just stares at him like IS IT WHO I THINK IT IS, MARK?? She does not seem... at all pleased by the way that she's putting this puzzle together.]

I'm not sure this drink is strong enough to deal with riddles.

[That won't stop him from enjoying it, though.]

[ mark looks up, meeting myri's gaze. and swallows a bit. ]

Dumage. Dumage knew.

[With a truly abysmal will save, Elena barks out a laugh. Wow, what a bitch.]

Of course it was her. [She remembers a little conversation she had, when she saved Mark from her before her life went to hell.] No wonder she was all over your dick.

[S-so classy.]

[ Buffy is actually staggered by the sharpness of Elena's reaction. She straightens in her seat, briefly unsettled, but turns her gaze on Mark, shaking her head. ]

I think what Elena's trying to say is … none of us are exactly surprised by the idea of Dumage hiding things. Remember Venice? Sneaking off with that blonde girl? [ Hell if she remembers who all she told about that. ] She doesn't have a great track record with honesty. Or ... anything.

[bigbad]

Oh, don't bloody start. [Spike straightens in his seat, tucking away his phone, and glares at Mark.] I don't know everything that went on with you two, but she didn't give up your secret. And it's not like you never gave her reason to.

[witchwoman]

No. [Myri's tone is perhaps more firm than usual. She even stands up. This is srs time.] Spike, I know that you seem to care for her for... unknown reasons, but this isn't up for debate. I've heard her with him. She didn't just know his secret. She held it over his head, taunted him with it. I heard her trying to convince him not to tell us because it would change what we thought about him.

[That's how she remembers it at least. And realizing that she got too swept up in the mission actually makes her feel terrible because she did realize all of this at the briefing but there was so much going on. To Mark she adds:]

I hope you realize how wrong she was now.

[Des sinks back into his seat without saying anything, pinching the bridge of his nose, and looking deeply pained. He's not gonna get involved in Dumagegate. He is sitting this one out.]

And I heard him dump her. [He throws a hand out, pointing at Mark accusingly, though he's meeting Myri's eyes as he says it.] I'm not saying she's a saint, and she's got more issues than National Geographics, but she's not a traitor. Any threats she might've made were empty or Sarandis would've known this was coming years ago.

And you-- [Spike turns back towards Mark, leaning forward in his seat.] Should never speak to a lady like you spoke to her. No matter what she's done. You're hardly Prince Charming.

[ hold on a second as mark drops the conch again because he's too busy being absofuckinflabbergasted. ] You... knew?

[ kat's face takes on an intense mixture of disgust and betrayal and disbelief ] Wait a fucking second. Are you trying to tell me Mark slept with Dumage?

Yeah, I'd really think she'd have higher standards than that.

[Oh my gosh so much eyerolling.]

Chill, Spike. Wanting to bang a prince and getting all pissy about it later doesn't make her a traitor.

[ Buffy shrugs helplessly—as if she really does want to find a reason to think better of Dumage. Which is false. She doesn't at all. ]

I mean, none of us really have to wonder which came first: finding out about Mark, or dating him. [ To Mark, she adds, ] No offense. [ Blowing out a puff of air that has her bangs flying away a bit, she looks deflated. This is pretty startling, even if it 100% fits with her world view of Dumage. She's not thinking about Mark being a jerk right now. That honestly doesn't seem like her business. #ProtagonistCenteredMorality, brought to you by defend Scoobies at all costs (even when they're wrong).

Her attention shifts to Archer. ] Is it too late to take you up on that drink offer? On second thought, I think we're all gonna need one.

I wouldn't be so quick to defend if I were you. Traitor might not be that far off. [ he shoots spike a dirty look, and then gives kat an almost pained one. ] No, look-- It was-- That part doesn't matter. She made me think it was one thing, and it was another. And by the time she laid her cards out on the table, she already had her hooks in.

She blackmailed me. She didn't just hold it over my head. She made me do things, and threatened that if I didn't do them, she'd let it slip, and Dimitris would kill me, or take it out on my people, or... who knows what else.

Defend her all you want, but she's the one who told me to let Roger James in the door that night.

[Well, Des can't sit in Switzerland after hearing that one. The look on his face is so utterly fucking horrified that he leaps to his feet, probably rattling Buffy's seat in the process, since airplane seating is not good for dramatics.]

That conniving little bitch. That's how she knew where to find Decker Greenwall. I made a deal with that goddamned trollop over something she was part of.

[Whatever Myri had thought about the dynamic, she had never thought it would really go that far, had never considered it. She slowly lowers herself back into her seat, actually shaking from how angry she is.]

[Spike looks a lot like he's been punched. Noticeably more like he's been punched than after that one time he actually... was punched by Mark. He stares around the room, swallowing bitter disdain. Half of them have probably expected this, and he doubts Dumage would be surprised, not after some of the things she's said. He doesn't want to think that it's true. There has to be more to the story. And of course, this is all coming out when she's not here to defend herself. He very much doubts most of the team would care to hear Dumage's side, or would listen if she gave it. Not when it's her word against Mark's.

And if she has turned traitor and fled the castle, at least it'd mean she's all right and has a good reason for not responding to her texts.

He shoves all that aside and turns, leveling his gaze on Mark again.]

Did Wynn know? That it was her who told you?

Mark.

[ Buffy gets up, wedging herself between Des and Mark. It's been two years, but she still feels compelled to make sure there's someone between him and anyone playing a part in Jade's death. Hell, she'd like someone to be between her and anyone involved. The wound never stops feeling fresh. ]

Are you sure? It was her. Directly. Not some changeling, not someone telling you it was coming from her … [ Because this is a heavy fucking accusation to make and it makes her wonder why Dumage was ever welcome in the castle. ] If it's true, why would Wynn keep her around? [ She has to skip over Spike's question and assume Mark told him. Mark kept Wynn abreast of this stuff. She has to believe that of him. ]

What part of blackmail don't you understand? If I'd told Wynn, she could have sent word straight to Dimitris. She would know it was me. There was no hiding it from her.

[ a year ago, he might have cringed and almost cried under the weight of admitting as much, but that part of him seems gone now at least. whatever he did, he sees as done. ] She called me that night. I suppose someone could have faked the call but it wasn't the first or only time she'd done something like that.

The Talisman. Do you remember who told you that it was on Andres in the first place?

[ he drags his gaze towards jack, and looks truly apologetic now. ] She told me I had to lie about overhearing plans to move it there. Presumably, to get the Dragon's Claws away from what was going on in America.

Thomas is dead because of her.

[While the talking continues and the revelations pour out of Mark's mouth, Elena proceeds to drink the entirety of what's in her glass, as if it'll quell the anger that's sparking in her chest.

She hated Dumage, found her shady and unpleasant and heartless, but this?

That doesn't even begin to cover this.

She bites down on her bottom lip, and the only thing keeping her from losing her shit completely is the white knuckle grip she has on her glass.

Which promptly shatters in her hand at the mention of Thomas (str 17). At least she barely even fucking flinches, considering she's probably...bleeding everywhere now (ws 24).]

[Spike turns away abruptly and storms away. Since it's... a plane there's not really anywhere to go, but he shuts himself in the tiny bathroom and pulls out a cigarette, punching the smoke alarm first because he doesn't care about any bloody federal laws that prohibit it and do they even have those on Andres planes.

Anyway he crit failed so there's gonna be sharp obnoxious beeping coming from the bathroom now which does NOT calm his nerves but he's gonna sit in here and smoke his bloody cigarette anyway.]

[It's a fucking miracle there is an airplane seat between Des and Mark right now, because he's so angry with rage, he might actually lunge him again.]

You fucking slimy, little coward. [To be honest he's still considering it. Buffy you should probably stop him. The beeping isn't helping his rage.]

[ At the first sign of lunge, Buffy turns to face Des, grabbing him by the shoulders and digging her heels in. ]

Not here.

[ With her strength back, she doesn't just keep Des from moving forward—she knocks him back (str 29). Raising one hand, she pushes flyaway hairs aside, holding one hand out to stay Des and turning to look back at Mark. Everything in her eyes speaks of agreement with the assessment, but there's something worse buried under that hard stare.

The weary edge of disappointment, of misplaced faith. Every glowing speech, every encouraging word comes to mind, and feels wasted, turns to ashes on her tongue. She may be keeping Des from tearing him apart, but that's not because she disagrees with his reasons. ]

We've got enough enemies. We don't need to make one out of an ally. [ Not friend. Not anymore. They'd unleashed it all already. Tore into him, hated him, shredded him, and he still hid it. Coward doesn't begin to cover it. Years ago, when they'd first set off to Andres, there might have been something Wynn could have done for Thomas. Anything. Instead … They had a fresh grave.

Two victims of Dumage's lie, and Mark's cowardice. She shakes her head at him, sorrowful and disenchanted. After all that she'd thought he'd changed, learned, grown into someone brave and honest. ] You made the wrong call. [ Which speaks to who else she holds partially accountable for Thomas' death, even if she never says it specifically. ]
