The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[ out the ballroom and down the hall they go. and then kali pushes open a door and ducks inside. it's her room, but it's spare save for the nest of blankets on her bed. and a small box at the foot of it. ]

You don't have a lot of clothes. I got you some.

[ they are, for the record, not children's clothes. the internet makes clothes for small people. so there's a bunch of jeans and shirts and turtlenecks and tactical gear because it's kali giving these to him. and a hat and scarf because it may be getting cold soon and a tiny peacoat and it's all very nice and tiny and not baby looking. ]

[considering rocket has worn pretty much worn ragged jumpsuits for ninety percent of his life, he's never really considered the option of having a full wardrobe (where the hell would he keep it- he changes ships more often than he changes clothes). It sort of solidifies the fact that he's gonna be staying in one place for an extended period and not in a dingy cell.

He rifles through the box, dumbstruck.] You got all this for me? [He's not overly skeptical or wary as he might have been otherwise. Kali doesn't really strike him as someone who has a catch to anything she does.]

[ she shrugs, leaning against her desk. ] I didn't have anything when the Knights found me, they burned down the lab I was made in and that's where all my clothes were. Wynn made sure I had clothes. I thought you should have some, too. [ a beat. ] Unless you don't like them.

[beatupgrass]

No, they're... great. It's just nobody's ever gone outta their way to do anything for me like this. [the hesitation is mostly due to shock. he didn't actually realize they made this many clothes in his size. He finds something that doesn't look as offensive as what he's wearing, but still probably not fancy enough for the party and peels off his turtleneck, exposing his scarred and mangled and bolt-ridden back to her for a moment while he changes shirts.]

It's probably because you're furry. [ it's thoughtful, the way her head tips. ] They might not think you need clothes. Ordinary people are stupid.

[beatupgrass]

Not just the clothes. [Rocket shrugs as he pulls on the shirt.] I ain't used to gettin' anything I didn't buy or steal.

[Groot never really had a concept of "ownership" enough to give gifts and Rocket never really instilled it in him. It wasn't really a necessary part of life and he hadn't really thought about it until now.]

Oh.

Oh. No one has given you a gift before? [ she looks... not actually upset by that, but she knows she should be, so confusion crosses her face briefly. it's hard trying to be normal, man. it's hard. ]

Who would? I don't got that many friends. [And the majority of them he met roughly ten minutes before he was brought here. He's not that upset by the realization- it's just strange.

Yeah, being normal. It's hard.]

Neither do I.

[ actually, she doesn't have any. yay life. ]

[this is where normal people would be like BUT WE'RE FRIENDS, but Rocket isn't normal. So he just stares at her for a second, twisting the fabric of his shirt a bit.]

Guess I better head back to the party. Thanks again. [He starts to say something else, frowns, shakes his head and gives her an awkward pat on the arm as he passes.
