The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[Rose's compliment is well received, but then Dean goes and opens his damn mouth. A will save of 11 will not keep a scathing look from her features at his comment.]

Surely you're not referring to our colleagues- many of whom happen to be my very close friends?

[Rose lets out a huff of a sigh.]

Yeah, I need a drink. [Muttered. (WS 12). Clearly not pleased with how this is going, Rose bites her tongue and scans the crowd for anyone bearing drinks. She's so not ruling out taking one from somebody else.]

I dunno. Are you friends with Puff the Magic Dragon over there? [ points at koraith ]

[Turning to find just who he means, Helen bristles further.]

Sir Koraith does happen to be a dear friend of mine. [idk we once joked that they may have even had a thing once. It could happen.] He also happens to be the leader of one of our sects, the Dragon's Tongue. Fear not, as the diplomatic sect, I highly doubt you'll have much interest in joining them, should you be promoted.

[Not when. You lost your "when" privileges when you started this shit, Winchester.]

Rose cuts Helen a look first.] Helen, he's my boyfriend - [That sure is the first time she's said that out aloud.] - and if you call him out like this in front of me I'm going to want to defend him and you - [Dean's turn, Rose's look saying more than her words, like 'I know what you're doing'.] You're better than this.

[She begins to extricate herself from between the two of them.] Feel free to keep going at it once I'm out of earshot.

[One final look between the two and she's, going, going... you get the idea.]

looks like a chastised puppy. ] Rose-- [ he calls after her, but she's already gone, leaving him awkwardly here with helen. who he looks back at with a rather chagrined expression. ] ... Alright, alright. I'm pushing it.

I have no intention of alienating myself from her, so perhaps we should establish a few ground rules. [She pinches the bridge of her nose, not even sure where to start.]

I will not tolerate your blatant disrespect of the knights and squires of our order. Whatever prejudices you might harbor need to be left at the door. Is that understood?

I was just jokin'. Is another ground rule gonna involve you growing a sense of humor?

[She gives him another hard look before relenting and shaking her head, glancing down.]

And how would you rather they see you? [She's... trying to get over the fact that she sees him close to the way he just described.]

[Definitely appropriate to just ask this in the ballroom but she doubts she'll have the chance later.]

[ omg helen lay off ] All I want? Is the chance to wipe out any evil supernatural piece of crap that's out to hurt or kill people who can't fight back.

It could well make you a hero. [But it's such a fine line that he could tip over and became cold blooded murderer. How those 'evil supernatural pieces of crap' were judged to be without the chance or redemption would play a huge part. The both of them are too quick to believe opposing directions to that question.

And perhaps Helen is afraid of the parts she sees in Dean that remind her so much of Druitt, how much he seems to enjoy his gruesome work.]

I've tried being somebody's idea of a hero before. Didn't end up workin' out well for other people.

Helping people is what we do. But that won't be limited to humans, I do hope you realize. There are plenty of innocent lives out there that need you, Dean.

I really wish everyone around here would stop assuming that the only people I help are humans. That's bullshit.

Considering that roughly five seconds into our conversation, you referred to one of my dear, non human friends as 'weird' without knowing a thing about him, I don't really think it's that far of a stretch.

And I call humans with pants sagging around their ankles weird too. Doesn't mean I won't save 'em if something's trying to eat them.

I struggle to see how a poorly dressed passerby is so easily comparable to the esteemed head of one of our sects, but perhaps this is a conversation for another day.
