The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

Both. [he grins cheekily] But the dragon motif can fuck the hell off.

It does get a little redundant. [She gives a wry smile, glancing around.] I'm part of a team in my world that's called the Avengers, you know.

[he snorts a little.] Now there's a subtle name.

[She rolls her eyes.] We fly around in capes and tights and superpowered armor. Subtle's not really what we're going for.

Point is, the main team's usually not that big. Maybe ten people at most.

But the second something bad happens, something that threatens the entire world?

[She smacks her fist with her palm.]

Bam. Suddenly everyone who's ever called themselves an Avenger even for a day is there.

So what? You're saying that I don't have to do the armor and the swearing in and the whole Arthurian shebang to call myself a Knight of the Silver Dragon?

[He's amused, more than anything, because ahahaha maybe it works that way IN MARVELLAND.]

[She snorts.]

Not exactly. Pretty sure you have to do the song and dance to get the fancy title. Guess what I'm saying is it doesn't mean this has to be your whole life if you do join up. You can go away to hang out with griffins or unicorns or whatever other non-dragon fantasy creature you feel like on weekends.

[She shrugs a shoulder.]

Or you can stay out and still answer the call. Either way, world gets protected, and isn't that the whole point?

[he leans forward a bit.] Except some people don't protect the world the same way as others. That kind of disagreement can get pretty nasty.

[Carol glances at him shrewdly.]

Maybe. How morally grey do you intend to go?

[he laughs.] There's no intend. Everything's situational. You can't expect a guy like me to be put in a situation with a complicated answer and pick the one that everyone thinks is gonna be right. I've seen what happens to people around here who make the hard calls. Hell, I've made those wrong calls and got my ass kicked.

[airforceful]

[She raises an eyebrow.] But were they the right calls? Not what everyone else thinks. What you think.

Yeah.

[a beat.]

A couple of them I probably regret now, but for the most part... Yeah.

[She eyebrow raises, wondering vaguely if he means it or not, but her sense motive of 13 means she really has no clue. She shrugs. His business.]

Then that's what really matters. That you can live with the choices you make. I do believe there are some things that are objectively right and wrong, but when you're in the field.... [She grimaces.] There aren't always good options.

Very rarely are there good options. That's just life. [and life is a bitch and likes to make people agonize.] But I may not sleep that well, but it's rarely because of the choices I made.

That's something, at least. {Carol gives a little grimace.] I hear there are spells for that.

Probably, but the last thing I need is to get hooked on magic. And I don't think Kat would be gentle with her Sleep spells.

[She's the only mage he trusts okay...]

Guess I can't fault you that. [Especially since she's heard about how fickle magic can be.] Well, good luck. I'm sure you'd be great as a knight, but it's not for everyone.
