The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

Perhaps, but... many would say the same of my species. I know snakes and panthers aren't sentient in the same way, but even so. Killing for food is very different from killing for pleasure... though I imagine their prey would find the difference an extremely subtle one.

Considering I am not on the food chain of either of those animals, I think you may have a point. At least they freed the prisoners before they could become sad, scary lab abominations.

Interestingly enough, you are on the food chain of my species. Or... were. For obvious reasons, that doesn't happen much these days. Not in... civilized areas at least.

[stares at Grimrot.] Oh my God, I was trying not to think about that.

[SHE TRIES VERY HARD NOT TO THINK ABOUT THE SPECIES THAT EAT PEOPLE, GRIMROT. GOD.] Thank God for civilized cultures.

I wouldn't, of course! [She touches her chest, eyes widening.] I'm a vegetarian. I don't even eat non-sentient animals.

That must really get hard during family reunions.

It's... not such an issue here. I have no family this side of the veil.

Ouch. [wince] Sometimes I forget just how many people are from over there.

Oh, but don't feel badly for me! The knights are like a big family. And now I have one of my friends from the Pathfinder society here to join me. It really isn't so bad!

Y'know, that's always struck me as super cool- not the getting stuck here part, but the fact that so many people can show up from beyond the Veil who actually know each other. Especially when you consider there's so many people coming from different Shadow Worlds.

I know, the odds of such a thing happening must be fairly astronomical, and yet it isn't as uncommon as you'd think. I wonder if there are any theories on that phenomenon.

Probably. I'd still like to do a census on the castle just to check the numbers every month. [she sighs a bit.] God, I love a good numbers crunch.

[grimrot]

If you do, you must show me your findings! It sounds fascinating.

I'll post them for the entire Hoard. [and maybe lis'sa senpai will notice me.] I gotta do something between missions.

It's good to have a project. I've mostly just been researching whatever strikes my fancy. There are so many books!

I have to curb my enthusiasm for learning and stick to being knowledgeable about specific things or I'll just get competitive. I mean... Name one other person in this place who can do forgeries better than me.

I don't, though I admit, I haven't actually looked into the topic. It hasn't been something I've needed.

It's sort of an acquired talent that starts in needing to forge your mother's signature in school, and then works its way into forging documents for crime lords.

[THAT IS A MASSIVE LEAP, BAMBI.]

Oh, that sounds-- [Polite wording for absolutely terrifying?] Bracing.

I prefer "exciting as fuck and never boring," but bracing works too. It did get pretty ugly there at the end before I defected over here.

That must be quite the thrilling story. How did it happen?

[theshameofcain]

Well, I was sort of in a weird space after I dropped out of college. [She pulls her cigarette out from behind her ear and digs in her pocket for her lighter.] You know how it goes- girl gets fed up with parents, girl rebels against parents, girl decides... Hey, I'm gonna find something that will really piss in their fruit loops. That'll show 'em.

[She rolls her eyes, finally finding the lighter.] Met this drow kid who said his dad was a hot shot, which I thought, in all honesty, was him trying to put the moves on me, but I think, hey, why not? Turns out, the kid was right. Once he saw I had some real natural talent at forging and balancing books, he hired me on.

[She takes a long drag from her cigarette.] I like to think people just sort of stumble into situations like that. No one really goes looking for anything. Hell, I bet you can't tell me half the people here didn't fall into it.

[grimrot]

Considering how many of us fell into this world... I suppose you're right. [Grimrot shrugs one shoulder.] But I'd been a part of an organization very much like this before I came over. The Pathfinder Society.

That sounds so much less.... flashy than "Knights of the Silver Dragon." [she pauses to blow smoke over her head.] I like it.
