The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

He finds treasures that came through the veil sometimes, and various governments sponsor him. We do offer a valuable service, after all.

But doesn't that mean he's beholden to those governments?

I don't think it works quite like that... he offers his services equally to all nations.

It seems as if it would be difficult to escape politics that way.

[grimrot]

Considering we recently overthrew a certain island's government, I'd say we don't escape it entirely. [Eyebrow raise.] But we do our best.

So long as you retain your freedom, while fighting for others'.

That is the trick, isn't it? [She gives a small, half-smile.] I believe we do. They've certainly allowed me the freedom, even support, that I needed to continue my studies.

[bloodrager]

And have you learned anything interesting, friend?

[grimrot]

Many things! Alchemy is especially interesting in this world filled with science--more science than magic at times. They have a field called chemistry that is like alchemy without any magic at all!

And have they finally figured out how to create gold with it?

[grimrot]

Ah, well. It turns out gold is an element, which means you need the power of a nuclear reactor to create it. [Knowledge... engineering?? 17.] Which is to say they did figure it out, but the process ends up costing a lot more than the actual metal does.

[ she frowns a bit, clearly disappointed ] What is this 'nuclear' reactor?

[grimrot]

It's.. [Oh dear how does she explain this.] It's what happens in the heart of the sun to make it shine.

[bloodrager]

Well, I suppose if anything had the power to make gold...
