Unlike the grandiose nature of the squiring ceremony each Knight undergoes upon their initial entrance into the Knighthood, the graduation to Full Knight status takes place in a much more intimate affair, between the Knight, their mentor, invited friends, and the members of the sect to which they will be inducted. There's no pompous music, no stolid rank and file, no elaborate march.

The Knight's new section head, Wynn, and their mentor Knight wait up at the front of the room for their approach, but the attitude of the ceremony is much more relaxed, full of smiles and light conversation on all sides. Of course, when Wynn speaks, people still hush. It's just how he rolls.

Perhaps, but the Elders didn't see it that way. When she became pregnant, and the affair was uncovered, they invoked the right of the Blades: if any Blade were to break their vows and bring a child into the world, it would be beholden to the Blades, and trained to take its parent's place when they died.

My mother was quite surprised when she wound up delivering... twins. Aurelian was the elder by a few minutes, but that meant that the right of the Blades fell upon her.

Yikes. [And she thought her familial obligations were bad enough to cut ties and run away from home from.] How was that... working out for her before you... took a permanent daytrip over here?

Not... particularly well. She had been training with my father for years, but he passed away quite unexpectedly, only a few years ago. She'd expected to have many more years of freedom ahead of her, and-- chose to run off on her own, rather than accept the responsibility.

It might be more accurate to say she was something of a... free spirit. She hated the idea of her entire life being planned out for her. I hadn't heard from her in years, not since she left.

That sounds like having a good head to me. That's how I ended up here. [She waggles her fingers.] Being a "free spirit."

[Of course she had to fall in with a bad crowd and get picked up by the Knights, but eh. Bumpy roads.]

It never really bothered me, that my mother expected me to train to follow in her footsteps as well. But then again, it's hard to imagine much more exciting than becoming an Elder Druid.

Constance was Miss Perfect. Always did what Mom and Dad told her to do and was content to lead exactly the life they wanted her to. And the moment she stepped out of the box for half a second, she wasn't equipped to handle it. So yeah. Little bit bad.

She died. Got killed, actually, because she just had to help her stupid free spirit sister, instead of leaving well enough alone.

Don't be. [She holds up her hand, trying to dismiss it.] It happened. It's done. And the living get to deal with the ramifications. But that's one of the reasons why I'm here, right? One of the reasons why anyone's here. To either run from or make up for the shit in their past. Or because they can't go back to their past.
